Debian 13 is 86 bugs away from release. Are you excited?

...As an available package. We all know Debian won't change defaults for a long time because it would break scripting. I mean shit, they even kept the system V init stuff available and "working" for a long ass time.

Using it rn due to 7900XTX, I had no choice back then.
6.12.27 seems stable as of now, previous versions had me locked out of GUI, that is, the main monitor randomly froze while trying to to GPU acceleration for browsing. One may say it's not kernel-related, yet there's one older version that exhibits the same bug-free behavior for me while the newer versions lock up. 6.12.27 seems to be the first in a long time with this bug squashed, 17 days of uptime as of today. Could also be that KDE fixed something on their side.

Just recently I installed sysv-init to the latest Raspbian because it has smaller memory footprint.

you call that wiki, simple guide? do you even know how it compares with guides of popular python/go libs?

The process hasn't changed, a wiki isn't a fucking github repo where there needs to be a new commit every 5 hours to satisfy you or the project is considered dead

Isn't it kind of an indictment on Debian's release model that their users are always chomping at the bit for the new release? If it worked you'd think that most would stay on oldstable until it was moved to LTS.

Nah skipping this one. 13 is an unlucky number. I got a 12700f instead of a 13700f for that reason and that worked out pretty well for me.

I learned Linux on Debian and always managed services through the sysv compatibility layer. To this day I don't know the difference.

Have you had any problems? I'm considering going to testing on one of my machines. I was writing a script to identify CVEs in certain packages, but I got lazy. Maybe I'll finish it one of these days. debsecan is pretty useless because it doesn't filter out unimportant bugs.

Nothing that I've noticed outside of a couple of KDE bugs that didn't affect usability, but that's par for the course. YMMV with a different DE or an Nvidia GPU. This machine does double duty as a media server and gaymen machine so nothing that interesting.

Because this can actually derail the thread, Debian does in fact not have a mascot. They had an abortive attempt at one like two decades ago that amounted to nothing. @105565077 is obsessed with trannies so his mouth opened and he bleated.

Yes. Debian is 100% retarded for not having a nicely-paced rolling release. But it is what it is. Testing/unstable is usable if you are willing to tread carefully.

I'll give it another shot then since it's about time for me to redo my setup anyway.

I'm surprised to hear they're finally shipping it with (what I'm assuming to be nonfree) firmware, I guess they finally abandoned their mission of trying to be as free as possible since the FSF deemed Debian as haram.
Anonymous No.105571175 [Report] >>105572728
>>105571148
Yes, non-free, sorry.

Debian is still on-mission. FSF cannot endorse Debian since a long time ago. But it does not matter since Debian cleanly separates free and non-free. It is highly based in this regard from a user perspective.

Good luck with the rebuild :)

They stopped doing that.

Unless they started doing that again since I last checked, but they announced with one of their versions they weren't going to bother doing it anymore.
Anonymous No.105574813 [Report]
>>105572728
They split non-free into non-free and non-free-firmware, and put non-free-firmware packages in the installer. Main non-free is still opt-in.
Anonymous No.105577184 [Report]
>>105572728
only for the ISOs. Firmware is a special case because without it your hardware either doesn't work or works worse or has needless security holes.
