if something goes wrong with your google account they will lock you out of everything and you'll be fucked. for this reason having your mail email @gmail kind of doesnt make sense. because if you lose youre @gmail (which can happen at any time, for seemingly any reason) you can jeopardize your bank access and all kinds of important stuff.

My main email address is a custom domain, so if my email gets disabled, I can just change the MX records. Although I feel like I should set up my email address to be a domain in my own country for added security.

>can't long-in without 2FA
What are you even supposed to do in that case?
On top of that, even if you want to switch to another provider, very few of them let you create an account without asking for your phone number, and you can't get a phone number without having an e-mail account. And no, burner SIMs are not an option as they are illegal here in France. The most cucked e-mail provider I've seen so far is laposte.net, which asks you for your ID, and you have to install their proprietary smartphone app.

Try creating a new Google account, and you will see what I mean. i'm lucky enough to have created my account before the mandatory phone number requirement, but now, you need one to create an account.

I agree that it's annoying even for seemingly inconsequential things like club penguin. But some people might store personal and sensitive information in their accounts even if you don't. So no company wants their users' passwords to be used by someone else if it did get leaked. That seems like a good thing to me.

Verification texts on login can be a security risk itself if you're retarded like me.
I got "hacked" by someone who inherited my old phone number that I didn't change on pretty much any of my accounts. They simply reset my password through the verificaiton text because it went to their number, then they fucked my shit up for a laugh. Could have been really bad but seems like they just wanted to sow a little chaos. The only reason I was able to take it back quickly is because I had an active login session on my phone that they didn't log out. If they had kicked me off the session then I would have lost the account forever.

Correct it was about getting a ID that is connected to your identity (6 countries only have no mandatory ID laws to get a phone number)

LMFAO Wait until you realize that all companies did play the blame game and they simply get all heir databases leaked every day then they play the magic game of
>umm chose a secure password
In reality any of this shit is possible because their retarded database got leaked and the le hackers are brute forcing the hashed passwords on their machines locally.

Think people how can someone hack your account if the server should block or give a time out to every IP that tries a bad login 20 times in 1 minute?

It is a clown show.
The anything I accept SMS verification is my bank.

Is cock.li stable now? With the the recent whatever that happened to it I switched my discord to gmail. But now this thread has me thinking I should change it to something else. Cock.li is nice because you can not log in for years and it keeps your account open. I was considering yahoo as well.

Discord is one of those things where you're totally fucked if you're locked out of your email. I realized this when I got locked out of one of my gmail accounts but managed to get back in later (user error, not google locking me out). That's when I switched to cock.li, but then I went back to gmail after the whatever that happened earlier this year. And now I'm thinking of going back to cock.li.

I am extremely lazy about managing my email accounts. Even my main, "real life name" email I only check once a month maybe (I'm a neet, no one's talking to me anyway), and google pesters me about adding more contact information for """security""" that I just keep ignoring. At some point I'm sure they'll make it mandatory and I don't know what I'm going to do about it because even if I switch providers (who the fuck would I switch to), how many god damn accounts that I've forgotten about am I going to have to switch?

Threads like these really peak my anxiety meter.

I sometimes browse youtube on my phone through the browser, and last night it started to refuse to play videos if I didn't log in. Of course I didn't, but their bullshit reasoning was to protect the community. They are feeling pressure from the money they are bleeding. Keep it up and always use ad blockers. Even if they steal your session they shouldn't know your password, and changing your password usually requires knowing your password. So you can log out the session if you suspect you've been pwned that way. I guess it's good practice to log out frequently and use log out all devices/sessions features some sites have, although kind of inconvenient.

I'm looking to move away from it because I can't have offline mail without their dogshit bridge.
E2EE is a fucking meme for emails too.
They also have a track record of locking people out of their accounts for good based on online posts.
Haven't had any issues in the past year of being a paid member aside from them arbitrarily deciding I was "sending too many emails" one day...
Still looking to move away from those fucks as they focus more on corpo expansion than polishing what they have.
Unfortunately every other option is either just as halfbaked or American (Outlook/Google) which could lock me just because some sanction or whatever. (EU)
