After using youtube for 1-2 videos youtube detects you have an adblocker not uses a server side loading time to those with adblockers to essentially bar you from watching videos, even if you aren't watching an ad they still make you wait the time.
There's zero fix so you have to wait 10 seconds each time like its buffering.
Yet nobody is talking about it for some reason.
>>105566986 (OP)I have this but it's only a matter of time when the internet comes up with a solution in a few days. If Twitch ads can be defeated, anything can.

>>105567172It's not server side, you can still access the video stream to bypass the ads. What YouTube did here is not an ad but delaying your requests if you haven't watched any ads. I get investing ads and hardware store ads, I'm sure if I was getting grubhub ads or other junk I'd be a little more proactive.
Still, hope it gets fixed. If YouTube can get around my adblock, so can bad actors.
Is it really necessary to try and stop ad blockers? I don't think it is. I don't want to see ads because I won't buy anything from said advertisement. People that want to see ads will and may be influenced by said ads.

Kinda funny that this is the implementation that the brains at Youtube thought to go with. I don't expect the average user will even realise the website is being slowed purposefully. This is designed to make people slowly trickle to the paid service or accept watching ads. Then they impose the a hard rule. >>105574761Every time you see these threads, it's because it was rolled out to a greater group of users. Every time they implement new measures, adblocker services need to invent increasingly complex solutions. YT already won on chrome. uBO is nuked and playback is now completely blocked for most (and will eventually be for all). Now they're affecting other browsers despite uBO. Eventually, adblockers will not be able to overcome the restrictions because Google has far more resources. Youtube has already successfully defeated things age restriction bypass to force logged in viewing. They have the capability to make users comply on their own service.
You could argue that there will always be some extremely convoluted way to bypass ads, but that's true for anything. A tiny % of users who are technically literate and dedicated enough to continue bypassing ads will not hurt them. And you're probably not one of those users in any case.

the problem with youtube is that it has decades (!) of music on it. bootlegs, video recording of concerts etc. there is no alternative for this.
>>105575646not a bad idea, you could add another step..
we could all run an addon that mirrors the videos that we watch in the background somewhere else
we could even set an upload limit per day or only upload the videos when browser is idle
And if it matches a previously mirrored video it just embeds that instead of the ad ridden one.
There needs to be an extension that hoovers up every single youtube ad possible 24/7 in the background

If you have more customization questions, let me know here's some examples from about:config advanced settings page:
- disable Pocket native extension: set extensions.pocket.enabled to false
- change UI to compact mode: set browser.uidensity to 1 and browser.compactmode.show to true
- remove "Inspect accessibility Properties" from context menu: devtools.accessibility.enabled to false
- remove Screenshot native extension: set extensions.screenshots.disabled to true
- remove AI chatbot from the sidebar integration: set browser.ml.chat.enabled to false
And to enable HEVC hardware decoding, download the extension "HEVC Video Extensions from Device Manufacturer" from Microsoft Store (a link from about:support page in Firefox, in the "Media" section, will redirect you there)

I just checked and my script to search for videos and pull up my history still works without issue. Pipes into yt-dlp+mpv just fine still. If they break it again oh well the 5 minutes to fix it has never been a big deal.
For shits and giggles I checked on firefox on my laptop and two desktops. Working just fine and the wait they've introduced is only like 2 seconds max. So I guess they're not testing shit with them first anymore since most everyone in the area much have moved over to fiber by now.

No one is impressed that you're pissing away $50 a year for something you shouldn't be paying for in the first place. It isn't a flex on the poorfags because you got to pay for propaganda for 50% off. I'm sitting on hundreds of accounts from when gmail was invite-only. Many of them are getting banned on the daily because I refuse to send them a cell phone number. I don't care about losing them but I'm sure you'll be crying when they finally get around to taking access to yours away.
I haven't paid for any form of media or entertainment since 1998. Excluding stuff IRL like theme parks and festivals. But even with those I refuse to pay the regular rates. Since most stuff is way overpriced now. Whenever possible I figure out a way to sneak in for free. Which is what I did for the last 3 concerts I attended and the last couple of sporting events. Can't even buy beer at a sportball game anymore with cash. They want you to dox yourself for the privilege of paying $10 for some shitty piss water.
Enjoy your overly compressed music you can't access when the internet goes down I guess. I'll continue enjoying FLAC and TrueAudio streamed directly from my home server to anywhere in the world.

>experiencing delay? Click here
Crap started popping up every time I loaded a new video. But the delay is like 1-2 seconds and now the pop up isn't appearing at all. I'm logged into a burner account most of the time but I logged out and navigating as guest doesn't cause delays either. I know I got the update because some other things changed in the DOM (I check it fairly often).
I'm starting to wonder wtf kind of browser you're using if you're having this issue since mine has pretty much every add-on for firefox you can get that makes youtube bearable to use again.
I don't know why everyone always freaks out though. Just use yt-dlp if you're really fed up with youtube. Worse case you'll need to make a burner account and feed it a cookie for some videos. I haven't had to touch it in months since the last time I re-installed it. I get updates for it automatically and it works fine when piped into mpv or anywhere else. There are like 20 different well maintained bash/sh scripts out there to navigate anything you need from youtube. The only thing you don't get is the chat rooms and comments. Which are useless anyway because they're just spam.
