It's an inherently unsafe design and the 5090 is drawing the max rated power through it with a 10% safety margin so for that card it's almost a case of when not if. Lower power 50 series is still at risk but much less so.

I noticed I'm running out of memory from time to time (32Gb). I still have two empty slots, but from what I remember Zen 4 was having hard time keeping up with four sticks.
Is that still an issue? I see there were quite a few BIOS and microcode updates since I built my rig. Can I just buy two more (same) sticks and hope that my system still works as fast and stable as it was before?
Currently running G.Skill Flare X5 2x16G at 6000, want to add same set.

Because you couldn't stop crowing about it, I've outlined the offsets of the pins in the picrel. What appears to have happened here is that one of the sockets completely sheared away from the rest when it was inserted, and so it had less contact area with the pin. tldr the guy who did that is a certified retard.

Certainly not changing a motherboard for that. Hm.
I see ASRock listing a couple of 4 DIMM slots kits in the QVL, but not the one I have. Which is probably because it only came in 2 sticks kit.
I think I might try anyway, and run it at lower speeds if needed. Which would suck, but running out of memory sucks more.

9070 XT is not a 7900xtx successor you retard. It's most similar in configuration to a 7800 XT which it's way faster than and matching the Flagship plus way better RT. 64 compute units and matching the 96 compute unit gpu that also has more cores is impressive. It matters if you're trying to cheap out with an Asrock, it doesn't matter if you aren't. But in case this is a naive genuine question; the usual comparisons made today are how each of the brand manufacturers' BIOS UI works. None of them are functionally different in the end. What you should be concerned about are the PCIe lanes being shared by what components, which have no basis in brand and they all make different compromises over the years and generations.

This video was reviewer metrics error. Tim (and AMD Steve 1) is measuring from the flagship down rather than the entry-level up. This methodology does not take into account the obvious possibility that different classes may simply be built to different die sizes at the whim of the manufacturer.

This generation has no node improvement, so the baseline is to expect not even a generational improvement (and yet we still see some). That's why it is even more important to measure from the bottom up. The 5090 is an "extreme flagship" in relative power to everything else, not a "standard flagship", which doesn't currently exist this generation. If you look at it that way, the 5060 no longer looks like a "5050".

Did you even watch the video retard? The biggest wins at the top is once niche scenario where the 9070 XT ran out of vram just barely on spiderslop, KCD 2 with experimental settings which extremely favors nvidia for some reason, and then cyberpunk 2077 with RT overdrive an nvidia sponsored game. AMD has games that favor it's architecture such as CoD too. It's almost like the way this works is the average performance difference across all the games tested not individual results is what matters because that's how statistics works. dumbass

Always played on 1080p. Now consider me a complete retard, if I get a 1440p monitor I can play on 1440p.
Okay cool but a higher resolution probably means the performance is worse and I will have a harder time hitting 144hz, right?
So in those cases I could play in 1080p BUT this is a lower resolution, and I think also not the same ratio(?), so it will probably not look as good.
If these assumptions are correct I'm not sure if I want to get one

if buy your gpu at launch of new console generation - you can expect it to last till next generation comes out. companies focus on console market first, unless it is some pc-exclusive game. so for as long as it is cross-platform title - you need to at least match current-gen console performance and features

they still are the best manufacturer, but their motherboards need absolute latest bios to not cook 9xxx chips, so getting one is like buying a b650 along with their mandatory bios flashes which negates the whole point of buying the latest line of motherboards. But if you wanted a 7xxx then by all means go for it.

Windows 11 isn't that bad as /g/ tards screech. I actually like it once you debloat it and change the start menu back to Windows XP/Windows 7 versions that don't search Bing and just search for your files instead. StartAllBack is a godsend for 5 bucks.

I made the switch over to Windows 11 for my new gaming PC because I couldn't be bothered to reinstall all my shit later on next year. It's literally just Windows 10 with extra spyware. You can disable most but not all of it with the O&O ShutUp 10++ program. Eventually I'll install SteamOS or take a weekend to setup Arch myself once it's tried and tested for desktop. Glad they're finally coming out with the distro to put on any PC and that gaming on Linux is looking really promising.

Although now that I'm thinking, is 7700 bit overkill for 1440p gaming? I could shave off 100โ‚ฌ going or something like 7500F or 50โ‚ฌ going for 5 9600X or 5 5600X. These option do only have 6 cores compared to 8 cores from 7700.

yeah there's really no excuse for 1080p on desktop in 2025.

you want to reach 60PPD(that's the same as apples Retina displays basically), and there's literally no way to get that with a 1080p display without sitting way too far away

https://phrogz.net/tmp/ScreenDensityCalculator.html

1440p just barely allows you to get there but it does the job

2160p is effectively perfect, maybe even wasting resources because it's *too* good

Yes. And for ~1200 - your best bet would be primarily 1080p gaming with something like 5060ti or 9060xt - whatever is cheaper and whatever poison you prefer. APUs are dead, so no go there. If just for casual gayming and no willing to drop 2k+ with current prices - just with xbox or ps5.

You mean ATX? Nope. You're better off with ITX cases. micro ATX (mATX) is still too big.

Okay so I made a couple of changes to the build, yeah like 800 dollars for labor but I kinda feel the 3 year warranty will make me feel safe. Also I'm not buying it myself.

1440p 165hz monitor and no desire to go up to 4k right now. I don't mind dlss on quality. I tend to let steam do the 2hour recording thing in the background if I wanna clip anything and I stream on rare days. Built my last computer in 2019 and I just want another one that'll last me 5-6 years.

US, budget is flexible as it's a present, willing to go with another builder if that's what I should do but I'd like a nice warranty. No I don't want to build it myself because I'm lazy and I've already done that dance 4 times. CPU-z is current computer I'll be handing down to my lady to hopefully play shitty games with me

if that doesn't bother you like you say about labor than enjoy your new PC anon. 9950x3d is a monster and tops the charts on all benchmarks I've tried. 5080 is kinda a bad value card but since you're buying prebuilt I guess that's not a factor.

It'll be great at 1440p, Frame Gen is overhated but it's a personal thing if you can live with it or if you prefer native rendering. 5080 should max out most games at least 100fps then you can use DLSS4 Quality or Performance for the boost. DLSS4 looks fucking amazing and I won't let the AMD shills here convince me otherwise when seeing it in person.

My tin foil hat theory dripping with mania? NVIDIA and AMD are working together to price fix this market. They both benefit off being a duopoly, the only 2 choices for a GPU. Wasn't always like this. All the money consolidated into these 2 giants and we're effectively seeing the late-stage monopoly's effect on consumers, making high-end PC hardware too expensive for most normies now so they'll keep buying these VRAM hamstrung cards every 1-2 years. AMD could have released a 9070xt 20gb or 24gb. GDDR6 can't be that fucking expensive. They chose not to. yet the fanboys lick it up.

On top of all this, all the games look like shit and have terrible shimmering and aliasing if you don't use TAA/DLAA and if you use TAA, you're forced to use tweaks like 200% screen history percentage and set the algorithm to 1 which makes it even more performance intensive than DLAA

>Gigabyte likes churning out revisions in a lowkey 'bait and switch' tactic

I'm partial to Asrock, but apparently their latest scandal is burning out-X3D chips, so purchase at your own discretion.

As far as RAM, just go with whatever brand you can afford--refer to the sticky as far as optimal speeds and timings. Otherwise, you can ABSOLUTELY overspend on baller RAM.

It is 120w cpu, what were you expecting? Also, idle temps depend purely on your cooling. And even that that it idles at changes literally nothing. 50 and so what in you're case? Check your gpu or vram idle lol.

I'm thinking of getting a 1440p monitor. ASUS ROG Strix OLED XG27AQDMG seems nice and price is okay. Is there anything that speaks against it?

Is the io shield suppose to be inside the case with the motherboard or outside?

I have a 5950x and I do a lot of video encoding and photo retouching and no AVX512 support is fucking with me. Should I upgrade to a 9900x now (I've seen 2nd hand prices for as low as 300โ‚ฌ) or wait for a refresh/successor?
