I decided to try testing my idea for a "story book" to use for adventure and RP bots.

The concept is simple, the AI is given several acts with key events and notes, and a beginning point to start the story for you. It should be very open ended, and allow you to go about each event and solve each problem by whatever means you choose with minimal railroading.

The story for this one is really short and simple. You're getting stuff to surprise Ran with a surprise birthday party at the request of Yukari, but you run into some opposition that want to sabotage said party.

So in my arsenal : "Native "Gemini and all GPT's and o3/o3-pro, free Grok with Think and Deepseek R1 ofc and all the extra available from Perplexity - Claude Sonnet 4.0/Thinking, Grok (this is the version without Think, but it has a larger context window than the free version, right?)

First of all, what's the difference Perplexity vs. "native" models, except for the size of the context window? Maybe there are cases where it's better to use, for Deep Research or just Search or or Perplexity are kind of useless?
I can't buy a Claude subscription, but how much better is it? Maybe should i use even the native free version?

Which one should I use for my tasks? ( and what I'm using now):

After trying out cards with as few as 150 tokens, and as many as 4000, I can safely say that less is more. If you can't get your idea across in 500 tokens, or maybe like 800-1000 if it's really complex, you need to get better at writing.

Mine tend to be 300-400 because for what I'm doing there simply doesn't need to be any more. Everything works as intended and there's less tokens, which is a good thing to aim for simply because optimization is fun.

The problem is that it does matter to you because you're using a local model and text completion. So you have to build the correct prompt format for the model there with that crippled UI.
This wouldn't be a problem if you were using chat completion, the backend would take care of the prompt format for the model and you would be able to use the prompt manager, but then this dogshit UI doesn't let you set all the settings for your backend.

The only thing that the model does is complete text. But to simulate a chat the model is trained with special tokens to separate the turns and the roles. With text completion, you have to build how the final prompt text looks yourself. You do that with that "Advanced Formatting" tab. For that model, you would have to select a Mistral template. It uses "[INST][/INST]" to separate the user messages.
If you use chat completion, the backend knows how to build the prompt from the model metadata, and the client just has to send the messages.
The prompt manager is the UI to edit the messages in the prompt, like where the system prompt goes, the character description, etc.
