Security by obscurity is not security. They will be "safe" so long as they don't receive a legal letter from OFCOM or similar authorities. And if you think they wouldn't bother with your site because it's not "normal", you better rethink your strategy, as OFCOM is investigating "uncommon" sites like random image hosts.

Yeah, soon you'll have to connect to Seychelles in order to bypass these restrictions, because more countries are considering age verification laws with each passing day. And of course, they'll attempt to block uncooperative VPNs as well.
See Italy's Piracy Shield, maybe they'd do something like that.

The "right" way to do that already exists, and it is by not giving unrestricted access to the internet to your child. Use parental controls, whitelists, etc.
The way they want it done is with traceable online verification in order to end anonymity on the web.

I'm getting tired of the moral absolutism and protectionism in governments that intends to take rights away and push ever forwards towards authoritarianism.
It's all personal liberty when it comes to things like employment, the narrative is always pushed by big business about a nanny state.
Then on the other end it's moral outrage that children are using the internet and must be protected. Like, as if in the mid 00's there weren't software products designed to block access to illicit sites (that yes, kids got around).

Parents let their kids have phones, tablets, they were offloading this to youtube and it was obvious 15-20 years ago how this was going to pan out and no, it's not a surprise that so many of them ended up doing things like only fans.
The influx of normalfaggots onto the internet, smartphones and failing to shame parents into raising their children has been disastrous for humanity.
It's not just pornography, it's buying a knife or tool online, chemistry and even extends to censoring AI models; which will in turn lead to restricting loading models locally. There was already that certain US senator who killed kids who wanted to have chips in GPUs to disable them if not authenticated.

At some point we have to stand up and admit that, yeah. Maybe we just need to boot retarded normalfaggots offline, the ones who used social media and can't give their kids access to only educational resources. There's a difference between giving your kid a Motorola M3688 in case of emergencies and giving them a fucking iPhone.

I'm not at all against the idea of proper age verification, but why are they trying to push this onto third party companies? It's very expensive to the (legal) porn sites and they'll just leave and get replaced with illegal ones, and it's also a privacy nightmare.

We have ID cards with chips since forever here in the EU, they could very easily build a system that just attests your ID card and issues a double blind token (or maybe even make the cards be capable of that, so that the govt doesn't even know the fact that you verified your age for anything in general). That can then be shown to a porn site. It'd be free for the site, and more private to users.

I fucking hate politicians.

there needs to be a new internet that doesn't depend on ISPs. an internet that doesn't make use of radio waves or cables. technology needs to be developed to allow connection between two computers without the use of ever needing cables or radio waves. computers that are already connected to themselves.

The new verification app should be coming by next month, so you got about two weeks. The idea is that it's just a temporary app while EU figures out mandatory real identity authentification for all users on all sites across the entire internet by the end of 2026.
In reality it'll probably be nothing but a paper launch that nobody will actually use, instead it'll be used as an excuse for pushing censorship on various non-porn websites like X and 4chan.

Really depends on how this law is going to work.
If it will just demand changes from websites hosted in the EU, then nothing really happens because most niche porn websites are hosted in some shitholes forgotten by God, like Moldova or Russia.
If they are going to try to actively force ISPs to block these websites, it's not going to work because it's not the USA with their 2 Internet providers that are just thinly veiled government honeypots. I don't think that Brussels will bother to chase some random-ass ex-cable provider from a little town in Poland that decided to provide Internet to their subscribers.

Because that way every single website doesn't have to roll its own verification, and store all that user data itself. In fact all it really needs to know is that this browser session has been verified.
>>105589897
It can be done. Do I trust that it will be? No, because they've already decided on using a freaking phone app when they could, and should, just make the age verification system the one exception to the no-third-party-cookies rule. That's a massive over-complication.

Anon those small providers are now just customers / resellers of large providers.
These people buy a 1-2gigabit connection from us and then they spread it to a small village or something.
They buy the TV signals all the same.
So your SMBs are basically the same as your everyday customer, just with better contract terms.
If we have to comply they will comply by proxy.

The easy fix to keeps kids from accessing porn and shock sites bad for their brain is to only give them devices that restrict what sites they view, the normies like weather or normie news can have something that flag them as age appropriate, and everything else is just assumed to be age inappropriate, but that's not what big government wants

Supposedly geoblocking isn't enough for the UK. OFCOM says that if you target or have enough UK users, you're bound to comply with the Online Safety Act, regardless of where you host your site. But KF blocked UK IP addresses and they said that was an appropriate remediation for now.
Only time will tell what's valid and what's not.

Authorities like OFCOM have explicitly said that they will target the operators with criminal charges and miscellaneous entities like ad networks of non-compliant sites. Also, you better hope Moldova doesn't join the EU.

You feel like it's "stupidly easy" because Chinese developers have put thousands of hours into researching how the GFW works and have come up with great stealth protocols like XRAY, VISION, REALITY, XTLS, VMESS, etc. But it's not trivial to bypass it. They have to pretend to be sites, pretend to have certain TLS fingerprints, pretend to be browser traffic, etc. The GFW performs active probes, DPI, it looks at packet orders, and many other anti-VPN measures to detect and block VPN servers. It's an ongoing cat and mouse game.
If the GFW decides one day to enable a IP whitelist, then it's game over.

Because retards are in charge in most of the world and bad people get drawn to these positions of power. They don't do what's best for the people, like to control for the sake of it and many of them are dinosaurs who don't know how the internet works.

It's not about protecting kids or anything like that, same with cp. It's about control. Ideas evolve, and people pushing dystopian policies understand that moral hysteria and appealing to emotion work very well. Everyone with half a brain knows kids need more protection from social media than they do from porn, but the cunts pushing for these know this won't impact emotions as much as porn will, and the jews wouldn't let them anyway; having youth on social media whom you can monitor and shape the minds of is just great for their plans. Notice how they cry about being "unpopular" on Tiktok.

disable the turbo clocks. Ryzens have retarded turbo settings where they jump the chip up to 1.5V for +400MHz, it's 5-10% gain at most at the cost of +30C in temps. It's so retarded because you can just do an all-core overclock at 1.35V and get the same clocks and still lower temps if you need to on 99% of the chips. But they go with the safe margin of stupid high voltages instead. Their GPUs have the same issue too, it's why they all undervolt so damn good.

in windows, control panel -> power management -> advanced settings -> processor power management -> Maximum processor state -> set to 99%. All this does is disable the turbo. If you need to masturbate to cinebench numbers, you can just undo this to get your perf back. No reboot is needed.

As a "datahoarder" sometimes I revisit what I had downloaded ever time, and in terms of pr0n, there is a ton of material that I got "just in case" or "i'll check it later" only to discover that I had not touch that in ages. So, in terms of pr0n, if I hadnt touched in a real long time, it means it was never THAT relevant to my interests and I can safely delete it.
Or sometimes if I have, lets say, cherished material, sometimes after a period of time, some kind soul reuploaded in a better size, quality codec, and then I will download it, compare it with my previous material, and then choose what I will keep.

Don't forget they used "muh kids" as an excuse to ban USENET access through ISPs back in the mid-2000s. Since it was where the spooky pedophiles and hackers were hanging out or something. But letting them on social media was a-okay.

They killed off USENET because email was impossible to censor. I can still talk to people in North Korea and China to this day. But it's impossible to content them through http or any other protocol.

They're just wanting to bring in their realid bullshit so they can lock us down hard like China. People from China and the Koreas have been yelling at the top of their lungs for years not to allow them to do this in the west. But no one listens because the average person is retarded and willing to go along because
>I'm not doing anything wrong

I don't know how they access fidonet but I assume it's still from POTS. There are several bridges to modern internet that allow you to access it without using POTS directly. But it can still take days for messages to filter to the other side of the network and come back sometimes since it's store and forward.

But it can't be censored. At least not easily. Plus it isn't closely watched. No idea why a modern take on the same idea hasn't popped up with all these people concerned about the web becoming shit. But everyone wants to tie their software to either a crypto scam or centralize it now so they can data mine. Fidonet, USENET, UUCP and various other "mail" protocols can't be censored. They're like IRC in that respect. They're true protocols for exchanging messages and data instead of "platforms".

Of course if you tried to promote something like this now you'll just end up with the same fear mongering they use for everything
>muh pizza being hosted

fwiw, in the UK at least the Pornography part was the conservative government and it came into force while Labour was in power (but they agree with the bill so allowed it to remain, but did not proceed with the age verification and identity sceheme).
Labour WANTS to restrict access to social media and online use for kids and teens, pushing for usage windows to not be per app but total per day etc.

New Labour on the right (Starmer, Blair) have this weird obsession with control more than the conservative government do. Ironically this whole ting with ID goes back to the Blair years where he had planned for national ID cards, left power, they were due to be implemented but cancelled by the incoming conservative coalition government in 2010/2011. Nowadays we have all these pieces wanting legislation but no ID or identification schemes in place and the Conservatives and Labour just seem to agree; with the only challenging issue being which crony gets to profit from the ID scheme itself.

It's fucked Jim. It's way beyond control.

It's worth noting that the latest AMD Radeon GPUs are kinda shit for undervolting now. They're good if you can change the bios but currently on Windows/Linux it's all software for RDNA4 and on Windows you can't set a limit for maximum clock speed, so like the retarded turbo or nvidia boost it boosts +3-400MHz and sucks voltage for nothing.

RDNA2 is the undervolt kind series.

You need to get your mind out of the left/right divide. They work hand-in-hand to enslave the population and have for a very long time (before most of us were born). The RealID laws going into effect in America were passed way back under Bush and Obama. Now years later they're finally going into effect and it's impossible to do stuff now like fly on an airplane as a passenger without a federal ID. None of the states opposed it either despite claiming they were against the federal Government forcing more control over them. None of them will because they're all part of the problem and no legit person has held a position of power in our life times.

China is the beta test. If you want to see what's coming to the western nations look no further than what's happening there. Where you can't even leave your apartment if the Government deems you're a bad person and your social credit is too low. They just finished installing a similar network of cameras in America with facial ID software. That was the entire point of the lock down and the roll out of the wireless network upgrades over the past 5 years or so. Well that and many other things that are part of the same security and tracking system.

>>105595736
They are not the same thing. Putting the burden of hosting the content on the clients isn't the same thing as the store-and-forward tech we've had since the 1960s. We've had software to do all this stuff for decades that they can't censor without tons of effort. The problem is no one uses it.

>>105595775

The only place I know that mentioned it in passing was the BBS documentary produced in the 2000s.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nO5vjmDFZaI

No idea where it's mentioned. But the above is a useful watch for anyone interested in how Fidonet and these older discussion networks operated.

Fidonet in particular was designed around POTS and the old rates for long distance calling. So nodes in the network would call each other and exchange messages off peak hours to save on the calling rates. So if you were talking to someone is a far away region of the network it could take days sometimes before messages got to them. Since they'd only be transferred from region to region during off-peak hours with long distance rates were lower. These days the network is much faster because that problem doesn't exist anymore.

Fidonet also didn't require POTS even back then. There were several people that would transfer data over radio links. In fact, if it weren't for the Government(s) declaring they own the airwaves and making stupid laws to restrict our use of them we would have had an uncensored and fast network years before broadband became common. There is a project for exchanging data over ham radio that can obtain 500+kbps speeds using easy to build modems. But it's illegal to use it in America due to the Government's laws on radio spectrum and the fact that it's illegal to transmit encrypted messages over ham bands. So you're limited to 50kbps at most with unencrypted communication. If you attempt to transmit outside of the rules the ham radio boomers will track you down and report you to the FCC.

Just build your own NAS on the cheap with a basic AM4 mobo + APU, it's not THAT difficult after the intial setup on linux. I only have three 4TB HDDs with my current raid setup, but will expand with pci sata cards as necessary. I treat it as a bit of a hobby.
I'm lucky I had a Fractal define r5 to spare, very good value for money when it comes to hard drive capacity and it's very quiet.

>The whole point of the state is to protect people
The point of the state is to _serve the people_ not control them. The state should have no concerns about what people do in their own homes or at social events. The state should not have any control over people what so ever.

There was a time when the state was comprised of local communities and these communities worked out agreements between each other to benefit both sides. There wasn't a bunch of bureaucrats dictating to the population while producing nothing of value. Those positions used to be filled by respected members of the community who did them as a side job. Even the police and watchmen were just like everyone else and given a position of authority to keep the community a safer place for everyone. They weren't writing tickets for minor offenses or ruining anyone's life with trumped up charges. They were there to help you find your way home if you got a little too drunk, break up fights and enforce traffic rules to keep the road safe and open for everyone. They weren't agents of the state looking to generate profit (aka road pirates). They had to answer to the community too they didn't have bullshit like they have now e.g. implied immunity.

We live in a world where faggots that produce nothing of value ride around in private jets then have the gall to turn around and blame made up bullshit like climate change on you for riding the bus to work or driving your own car to the store to buy food. When they're the ones selling the gasoline in the first place and burning the amount of fuel the average person burns in a life time to go on vacation or to their faggy little meetings where they conspire together. One of which is happening right now in Sweden. If they're so concerned about these issues they keep shaming us for perhaps they should lead by example and kill themselves for the good of the planet.

The key here being that if you serve UK users then you are bound by UK laws. It is appropriate because they can feign ignorance of not knowing the UK has its fair share of shitters that visit that cesspit too. They can just say that they blocked the UK and therefore aren't aware of any UK users using it anymore but if they somehow became aware of that fact and didn't take action then they could potentially be breaking UK law.

Australia's government was sphere heading the idea last year to the U.N. so they most likely already going through with it. I have no articles since I get my shit from what's mentioned on tv. They were doing it to "protect the children from social media" and somehow porn sites just happen to get lumped in. Australia's government went so far as to claim underage kids gained the knowledge and know how to download and purchase a VPN service to cause harm to themselves. This is how retarded this got.

>I find it extremely weird, that mainstream media is not talking about this topic.
Too busy with other distractions in the news, its how they're passing these laws unnoticed. Here in the US it just happened out of the blue for several states. No warning or anything. Half the porn sites are like this while the other half are using some anti-DDOS system that also blocks VPN access. Been like this for almost a year now with not a single person or site mentioning this.

You need to understand.
The disabled and the unemployed on welfare could be at home jerking off, which means that your hard earned tax is spent on them!!! (we are purposefully and wilfully ignoring that the cost to the state providing you services is likely greater than theirs as their welfare will be funnelled back into business and the local economy via greater money velocity because it does not fit the narrative we need to achieve)
Think about it, at home, all miserable and poor, living it up on your dime! jerking it to big titty goth girls! and fat latina asses! online! It's not acceptable!
Just cede your right to anonymity, provide your ID, pay the cost for a digital pass and enjoy your pornography, it will be something that you have earned, nothing to hide, nothing to fear, right?

In all seriousness, I've seen someone get upset in the past about disabled people and the unemployed having access to the internet. Much like the old "flat screen TV" whining from the middle classes. People who pay taxes and are working class or middle class being squeezed direct their anger down below and they're taught to hate the person whose life is as miserable as theirs and instead of empathy they're taught to lash out.
How do we get to the point that regular people get behind stuff like this and cheer it on?
Crab bucket mentality, innit?
We need to perceive everyone else as being as miserable as us.

If I can't be happy, why should you be happy! (I actually do want you to be happy, sorry, not sorry).

This. I'm super worried about power consumption as my power bill already increased after installing two ACs.
I'd DIY it, but I don't know if I want to run a NAS 24/7 to begin with.
I might be able to get away with getting a bigger PC case and just putting the drives in it. 2x8T to start with mirrored or something idk.
At least the drives spin down when idle as far as I can tell.
But then I'd worry about general heat management since now I have 3 fans at the front, 1 or 2 would be blocked by the HDDs in a new case, or more like no place for them at all.

I really want a huge case though with space for a bluray drive too... hmm hmm... Might be better than a NAS honestly.
I've seen some anons recommend an external HDD mount thing where you pop them in like a NES cartridge.

Yeah I never understood this. When I was a NEET I never hated wagies, now I'm a wagie myself and I hate that the government steals pretty much 75% of my output.
Sure it's not a 75% TAX outright, but if I track the money I cost my employer as he gets taxed on my gross pay, or "super-gross pay", then I get taxed again (30some%) and get my NET income, then I spend the highest VAT in the EU 27% on everything pretty much.
So basically if the employer were to pay 1300$ I'd get 1000$ gross 700$ net from that I still pay 27% VAT tax.
Then I get taxed on every other minute income I have, forced to use a debit card because being paid in cash is pretty much illegal since boomers allowed it.
Card and bank account cost monthly.

It's not the random gypsy living it up on what meager welfare they can scam together for 8 kids that is stealing my money.
It's not the few disabled NEETs either especially since our welfare is quite honestly non-existent compared to what the Americans have.

The huge tendency to "punch down" is simply being taught to society. People are being divided among many lines and even more lines are being made, like with immigrants. Academia is often completely subverted and teaches what really ought to be treated like poison. Media is focusing on individuals and their person, i.e. the common man and how bad he is. You can see that at least the vocal minority considers fellow countrymen with different views as a bigger threat than conspirators in their government or the hordes who would gladly behead them. Being able to reconcile - at least for a bit - so that they can work together and make a stable healthy country never crosses their minds. To them, rubble is stable, and that's what our countries are headed towards. In a way, the people have been taught to thought-police each other into a dystopia.

It's about not being able to unify, in the end. Those behind the curtain know that their shit can end very quickly if the populace starts holding hands. In other words, we can't have nice things or there's gonna be a real holocaust this time.

Some intel setups can go down as much as 10W idle but it takes some planning.
If you get an odroid H4+, it can go down to 3W but it only has 4 SATA ports and you have to dick around with the NVME lanes if you want more (or even boot from eMMC), it's also NUC sized but it is x86 and comes with dual Intel 2.5GbE, so it is ideal for TrueNAS.

>2x8T to start with mirrored or something idk.
Go with 4 drives in a Z0 array (3 drives for data, 1 for parity).

>But then I'd worry about general heat management since now I have 3 fans at the front, 1 or 2 would be blocked by the HDDs in a new case, or more like no place for them at all.
That's good, you want the fans to directly blow on the hard drives, and for a NAS you can get away with an i3 or lower which use practically zero power, even the stock heatsink is enough for them. Most of the power is used by the motherboard components at that level (for ex. any chipset is 8W alone), that's why chipset-less SoCs have a huge advantage if you are pursuing ultra low idle power.

>I really want a huge case though with space for a bluray drive too... hmm hmm... Might be better than a NAS honestly.
This works as well but then you have to spin up the drives and initialize them on every boot, plus they are very noisy, especially the 8+TB drives where you can only get 7200rpm models.

>I've seen some anons recommend an external HDD mount thing where you pop them in like a NES cartridge.
Those use USB3 which kind of sucks. I have an eSATA breakout on my machine so I can just connect a drive directly, or take off the front panel off and connect 4 drives directly to the motherboard when doing monthly backups (SFF case, no space for hard drives).

>but why are they trying to push this onto third party companies?
They AREN'T. That's kind of the whole point.

The app in question is supposed to use OAuth / OpenID to obtain a cryptographic token that signifies a particular user is of legal age, from whatever member state backing administrative system it is being connected to.

Once it has that token, it's stored locally on-device and if a third party needs to verify the user is of legal age, all the app does is send them that token. All of it uses asynchronous public-private key encryption, and all the requesting party has to do is verify the token is valid based on the public key, for which open-source libraries (which - if you're paranoid; yes- you can compile from source) are being made available.

The token itself doesn't contain any identifying information.
Requesting parties don't get to know your identity.
Government doesn't get to know which requesting parties you hand the token out to.

It's perfectly double-blind.

>is extremely jarring how this doesn't trigger cognitive dissonance in eurofags.
Because it's bunk. The verification system the EU is designing (for which this app will only be a temporary frontend) is not based on handing out your government ID to third parties. The app has you contact whatever system your government sets up once, at which point you'll have to authorize in some government-dependent fashion. As part of this exchange what the app receives back is a signed token, using public/private key cryptography. That token indicates either you're of legal age; or are not. Its payload doesn't contain any identifying information. It doesn't need to. Simply *having* the token suffices to prove that either you're of legal age; or you're not.

Requesting parties that need to know whether you are of legal age, are simply sent that token by the app - and they can check whether the token is valid via the known, published, public key. They don't have to communicate with any government services for it, so data doesn't leak or trace back there.

This is not how OpenID works. Locally storing a token for later asynchronous use would allow for anyone to copy and reuse the same token. An OIDC login always requires the user to authenticate against the IDP, and then the client to verify the user's identity with the IDP. Anonymity completely contradicts the concept of an IDP.

So far I've seen no indication that the responsibility falls on any entity but the website, for whom it'll be a serious problem if they ever get punished by the children using the parent's phone...or making an account, as you say, using the ID card, because it's not worth straining the marriage by having that on your phone.
This is one reason I really wish this was just using third party cookies instead of a phone app, because the app is like a mark of shame and makes any who have it suspicious, even though they're obviously going to expand age verification for anything about weapons, drugs, crime statistics by race, buying stuff from unapproved/non mainstream vendors, and things they can't quite call misinformation but would be very inconvenient if too many people were talking about in in this totally democratic society that respects the will of the people. Now if it doesn't rely on max level Google Play Protect you might be able to install in on a virtual device like waydroid, but that's too complicated for most people, which will cut down on any discussions that the government says need to be age verified (because that's cheaper than straight up arresting people).

Elites are usually unaware of emerging tech, be it the Internet, crypto, AI. Once it becomes visible they aim to contain and domesticate it. The Internet became visible in the late 1990s and it took them around 20 years. Bitcoin became visible in the mid 2010s and it took them less than 10 years. With AGI (visible around 2017) they were more alert and they already try to capture and centralize it.
