I like X11 screen tearing. Pure sovl
Anonymous No.105590871 [Report]
haven't had tearing with X11 since mid 2000s. I do remember when wayland was announced in 2008 as the holy grail and replacement for X11. Kek.

Nigger what are you even doing to make your desktop tear?
Vidia game use their own vsync so you can't mean that.
Anonymous No.105591183 [Report]
tearing > input lag any day

For some competitive shooters they turn off vsync and play at high frame rates I believe.

Fuck right off.
Where's my tearfree modesetting? It has been in the master branch for a while now.

I did give modesetting a try but performance was pretty bad. probably works better on newer CPUs but not great on my 8th gen

Never had any issues. In fact, games run faster with it.
It uses OpenGL for every 2D operation, so there's some overhead, but it shouldn't struggle on such a modern CPU.

I mean, even if it was faster, I wouldn't use it because setting up hardware acceleration on Firefox was a pain in the ass for me and I just couldn't make it work. works fine with Intel's driver + intel-media-driver installed though
I have another Intel machine (9th gen) where I ended up using the same setup, with the added bonus that it also has an RTX 2060 so I just use that for games instead
>In fact, games run faster with it.
anon I'm not gonna play any games where that matters on an Intel iGPU. the only games I play on that machine are visual novels and that works just fine as is
for any more "serious" games I have the aforementioned 2060 laptop, or my desktop with a 4080 Super (where I obviously use nvidia-open-dkms and Nvidia's equivalent of TearFree)

The latest Intel iGPUs are surprisingly fast. I played The Talos Principle on a Thinkpad at 1920x1200 with non-potato settings and achieved a mostly locked V-sync.
Being cognizant of how to maximize performance is arguably more important on a low-end system where you need it just for basic playability, and hopefully to avoid dealing with NVIDIA's Linux bullshit.

well, yeah, I'm not arguing against that, but like I said, my Intel systems are 8th and 9th gen, far from being the latest

I'm also not on wayland so Nvidia works fine here. xfce is love, xfce is life

Except that it doesn't really. Xfce's window manager has code that checks your GPU vendor. If it's Intel, it uses xpresent as a backend. If it's NVIDIA, it defaults to glx. You can force xpresent and see why that's the case.

probably using xfce to do basic desktop things

just download picom or switch to something with built-in compositing like marco.
issue solved.

Not my problem. I like tearing.

This. OP is a faggot well poisoner trying to get us to act like screen tearing is a feature, but in FPS games that's actually the case. Using Wayland is like a forced Vsync, I'd much rather see a much more updated frame that's only 90% rendered in games like Counter Strike.
