Would banning smartphones and nuking all social media sites from existence actually fix the internet?

Social media used to be soulful, it as a concept is not a problem. Same with stuff like youtube. You cannot just tear these things down and expect things to go back to how they were.
Requiring more knowledge from the user is probably the way to go. If you look at federated/decentralized social media platforms you'll notice there aren't very many jeets (just leftoids)

Alternatively just view mainstream social media and "default" websites (x, tiktok, insta, reddit, youtube, etc.) as being one massive containment sphere for normoids. Using alternative websites that have smaller communities already mimcs the old internet experience

Making it harder to use.
When you had to:
Get a terminal emulator.
Get a serial cable.
Configure your serial port.
Get a modem and configure it.
Get a TCP/IP stack installed (yes, computers did not all come with TCP/IP).
Get hold of the software apps you needed (even if it meant installing slackware on 14 floppy disks).
