Zotac this generation is alright. They have some odd cost cutting measures like a BIOS switch press-button rather than a lever so you can't tell visually what mode its in, but otherwise they function fine. Big fat coolers with the non-Core models too so they will be miles ahead of any Ventus you might find.

I was wondering if this graphics card would improve the performance of my old desktop ever so slightly? I don't have any experience with graphics cards and have always relied on built in graphics.
I heard that a graphics card can improve performance by freeing up a bit of the processor.
This should work on a windows 10, intel i3-3240, 16gb ram, provided I have a big enough power supply?
Also I do know this is a shit card compared to some of you guys battle stations but this pc is pretty much used for email, word processing, web searches and maybe some YouTube.

Your computer is using a portion of its ram to run the integrated graphics, probably around 2GB, you can check in task manager for hardware reserved, so it would free that up. But 16GB is plenty for an office PC and video playback is perfectly fine on integrated. It probably won't make any difference. What would make a difference is upgrading the storage, maybe a better SSD?

>video playback is perfectly fine on integrated
The codec kikes have ensured that this is NOT the case.
An older CPU like the i3-3240 doesn't have any acceleration for video decoding even for YouTube these days, it could previously play 4K60 totally fine... with 264, but then they changed codecs to save 0.00002% of bandwidth and now everything without the new codec support has become e-waste tier for no good reason other than 0.00002% bandwidth savings for cloudflare.

The solution is dropping in a modern (codec compliant) discrete GPU of ANY performance class because it's not really a computational limit. It's more of an artificially engineered one. Modern video is basically just new hoops to jump through.

A GT 710 is about as old as the rest of your computer, so not that. If you're already on an SSD and still thinking the computer is slow there's not really any sane upgrade paths for such an old build, it's probably better to get something new.

>So are you saying it would be beneficial to put this little GPU in?
If you intend to watch videos or use any online services that aren't 264 or 265 or older codecs, then yeah, probably.
If you're not going to use it then you'll save watts by not using the discrete GPU. If you do occasionally watch videos, sometimes CPU fallback (CPU doing work the GPU would otherwise bypass with acceleration, much slower) can take up the slack without a GPU but the 3240 is barely going to be fast enough for 1080p60 without any dropped frames, let alone higher resolutions like 1440p or so.

You can also try extensions that will tell the service you can't run newer codecs but they might just say fuck you and send you old 264 encodes at a max res of 720p or something.
I would install it if you have it but not sure if it'll help because it's not listed on this page at all
https://developer.nvidia.com/video-encode-and-decode-gpu-support-matrix-new

Remember this isn't a (((youtube))) problem necessarily, they're just one of the primary sources of this kind of content. Even downloaded videos will suffer from lack of decoding acceleration so local files/etc will also be hard to run without acceleration.
If you have a NAS or anything with transcoding you can let that handle the work and just leave the GPU out of your PC if you want. Or hunt down something like a 1630.

>>105598538
Not just AV1, even non-accelerated VP9 can bog an older PC down. Especially a dual-core.
Had a friend who had a 970 and he swapped it out for a 750 after he quit gaming because it had the codecs for YouTube despite being an inferior card lmao.

This is my current setup. Yes it was an NZXT custom pre-built.

Ignoring potentially upgrading any other components, is there any worthwhile GPU I should consider upgrading to, assuming I only want to spend ~800 bucks at most (and then plan on selling my current GPU to make back some money for a net loss of like 400)

I currently just use a 4k OLED TV that's only 60hz so high FPS isn't a target but high resolution is

I've heard that if the speeds are different and or the brands are different, that the RAM will run at its lowest power settings. Is this true?

There is manufacture variance in the sort of white that varies product-to-product. You might be forced to source components from a single vendor to minimize this.

They aren't viable at all but still works if you have an older GPU like the rtx3090 or 2080ti. Not sure about AMD's mgpu support.
To minimise GPU bottlenecking, you'd need to find boards that support x8/x8 GPU lanes. But they are quite rare nowadays and only a handful of pricy boards like the strix -E, proart, or extreme OC boards like the apex that have this layout

I've picked out two for you sir, you will choose between those two and then it's done. No more thinking about PSUs.

The first alternative is SeaSonic Focus GX V4 ATX 3 (2024) 850W and the other is MSI MPG A850G PCIE5. You can choose 750w or 1000w instead if that is what you need, but for future proofing (tm) I would suggest to go for 850w even if you don't need it today.

For Seasonic the Core line is the "lower" tier, it's perfectly fine but Focus is one small step up and give you a nicer faggier feeling than if you buy the Core. Vertex is over that and isn't needed for most people.

If you choose the MSI one do not get the A850GL, there are no small japanese people in that one.

Don't care about brands, just read the 12v amps spec sheet and always buy single rail over multi rail. 7900xtx spec sheet says you need a PSU with at least >65A on 12V so that narrows down the choices by a lot. PSUs of that spec are all 750w platinum or 850+w gold.

I am saying read the spec sheets and ignore brands. It's the same with graphics cards too. Memory bandwidth, vram, rops, and pixel fillrate are king in GPU-Z. You cant beat math and science the raw numbers. Buy and get what you pay for instead of buying on feeling and "what he said". This is computer building as in you understand how computers work not just how to assemble them like a construction worker monkey.

Unfortunately not everyone has the time, effort or intelligence to research those thing you said. That's why independent reviewers are important, to tell normies what to and what not to buy. Furthermore, there are things (I'm saying quality control issues, false labels etc) that can only be uncovered by reviewers who have the means to buy large sample sizes and testing equipment.
This is also the reason why corporate shills are the bane of modern computing.

MSI's Mystic Light: why does this thing keep resetting the color animation cycle of whatever I set it to? I have set multiple components to Wave mode and to cycle between gold and no-light for a slower "breathing" animation. However whenever the CPU is processing ANYTHING it will frequently reset the cycle by going to the last shown color, it can happen several times in a row so it looks like it is slowly flickering. Should I just use another RGB control entirely? Mind, this doesn't affect the CPU temp mode, which I guess overrides this issue by always issuing the command for a specific temperature rather than interrupting the current animation cycle.

It's bleeding edge hardware, definitely not because my CPU is choking or anything. It's almost as if Mystic Light is issuing a refresh command on the component constantly to apply new instructions for the color pattern. This happens even on a fresh restart; the colors are all loaded right but then they'll start flickering again on any kind of "load". Guess I'll have to look at those two other options if fiddling around with settings doesn't resolve this.

pcpartpicker - it is retard-proof and once you pick either cpu or mobo, it won't show you incompatible shit. it will also do a power usage calculation for you - so you will appropriately fit your psu. with psu just give yourself some headroom to not run that under stress all the time (i.e. your build estimates to ~500w -> just get 750/850 gold+ psu). most psus are also at their peak efficiency between 40-60% utilization.
and assembling everything together is no harder than doing lego.

gentlemen I need help
i've been searching for pc screens for a literal month, and simply no existing screen fits my criteria.

I'm an illustrator and I play games (automation games that really benefit from the high refresh rate). For these two things I need
>maximum color accuracy and contrast
>144hz
>IPS
Now this is optional, but I'd really like to go for
>32" or more
>4k

Latency up to 5ms is acceptable.
Is it possible to find a screen that matches all of these criteria? my budget is 1k, but of course the cheaper the better.
Sorry to ask to be spoonfed, but the combination of not finding anything in stock, and screen models being All named LG30192 and LG30191 (while being completely different) drove me insane. Is my only option LG32GQ950-B?

> I don't want nothing to get burned in. wat do?
no OLEDS. Some shills will claim they fixed burn in and while they can be longer lasting now OLEDs use organic material which will degrade over time. Especially UI elements from your IDE or editor I can imagine would burn in easily.
IPS have decent colours, viewing angle and response times but shit contrast, backlight bleeding and IPS glow when displaying black.
VA have better contrast than IPS but worse viewing angle (this is why they tend to be curved) and response times. IPS glow isnt there a problem and backlight bleeding shouldn't be noticeable but they can suffer from ghosting.
Both IPS and VA have miniLED variants but I cant remember the downsides there. I faintly remember something about halo effect and blooming.
TNs are for competitive gaming cause of response times but if you want to watch bluerays stay away from them.

small fan: lower airflow > need to spin faster > more noise
larger fan: higher airflow > can to spin slower > less noise
stock coolers might become more efficient at transferring heat from components, but in order to dissipate that heat they keep on using small fans, which are always going to be loud compared to 120/140 no matter what

I learned recently that for some GPUs this is an indicator that the 12V connector isnt correctly seated. Using the adapter or having the 12V cable not correctly seated would turn the LED on while it's intended to be off.

On my gigabyte board under peripherals it shows NVME configuration and AMI graphics output protocol policy. If you select NVME it shows you all your NVME drives if they are working or not. If you select the AMI it says the video card name BIOS. I have a 7900xtx so it would say the code name which is NAVI31.

Yesterday I had to turn off USB wake/enable ERP (lol) and rechecked the PBO settings and it was apparently at 0 this whole time when I'm certain I saved the settings at -25. Why these fans are a problem? they are good fans that move a lot of air and are quiet you have zero reason to replace them and the case is $80-100 cheaper than Flux pro which has both worse fans and less features for 1 degree difference on average

I have a 5070ti. Nvidia locks the minimum fan speed to 30%. But it doesn't mean it's 30% rpm of your fans. It's actually a fixed rpm. In my case I replaced stock fans with 140mm noctua fans but it shows 1400 rpm and 30% speed in gpuz despite the max rpm for my noctua fans are 1500 rpm. So no, there's a minimum rpm you and can't go lower than that.
