thinkpads have ended last decade. There is now no reason to buy one as they don't differ fundamentally from other laptops - everything is soldered on.

Apple however has a massive lead in hardware, the M chips are second to none and the OS is pretty good. Macs are better on every single metric you can come up with.

you can get 16gb ram upgrade for 20 dollars now from places like amazon. Also wifi 6e (intel ax120) are available as a drop in replacement an can go for 20 dollars as well. since these upgrades are cheap i would recommend that you upgrade. Note that the wifi upgrade requires you to install a unlocked bios.

There's honestly no actually good laptops with modern hardware. I have x230 which I like, but it's showing its age by being fairly slow even with all specs maxed for the model. I hope you're prepared to keep a charger handy all the time.
