Open backs with such a bass shelf basically don't exist. And 6+ kHz looks quite low in level which is also not something you'll find in an open back, though impossible to tell exactly without knowing the measurement rig.
Bottom line: Get whatever and use EQ. I'd suggest HD 490 Pro (comfy, low distortion, solid build quality).

I need to refund my new headphones anyways as I got my old ones to work the same way they used to by doing the press down thing.

But if all else fails I'll try the usb amp/dac. That's a good suggestion.

k702s break in sub 2 years, are made in china, sound like garbage and have absolutely no padding on the headband unless you mod them. The only thing they do well is having a wide soundstage for their price point, they do absolutely everything else horribly and are so piercing that they make beyers cheap line seem reasonable

Well, I agree, my experience with the quality has been terrible.
The pads basically disintegrated in a year(replaced.)
And now the connector issue...
Still, they sound pretty good when working, IDK if there is something similar but better on the market nowadays?

The other issue is I have a bad amp.
I have a topping dx3+pro, and it seems like it is barely too weak to run just about everything that would be a meaningful upgrade from sundaras.

Dan Clark Audio is generally the pick for ACTUALLY good build quality planar headphones.

But you are paying for US manufacturing so they start around $500.

DX3+ Pro should be fine for all but the most power hungry headphones (which are generally $1k+ anyway).

if it's front panel audio you've got a few options depending on your case
you can either get a 5.25 bay sound card, or buy a new case, or use the front panel usb port and get a usb dac for 8 dollars, which will work just as well
if you are using rear audio, it's on your motherboard, and you can get either a pcie sound card or again with the usb
if you plan on actually repairing your computer you're looking at a new case and/or motherboard depending on what kind of computer you have. an oem computer may have an incompatible power supply, case, motherboard, cpu cooler, etc.

I would like to know if there is MUSES72320/323 chip based headphone amp though, but using such chip should be better than Alps RK27 by a certain margin while still keeps cost low. Dunno why Schiit hasn't integrated such a chip into its lowly-priced design.

All Aunes are kinda dark and recessed in vocals, AR5000 is probably the best one of the batch. AR9000 sounds so ass you would not believe it costs 1000+
I couldn't see how they are better than 600s series in any way, a few dBs of extra bass are good but the rest of tonality is simply worse.
> lower THD
A meme metric and a retard detector, even vintage Sennheisers have THD below audibility treshhold at normal (75-80dB) listening volumes, even if you push some bass with EQ.
If you still claim that it matters you are not just a retard but also a deaf one pushing listening volume waay beyond safe levels

>>105621868
6xx/600/dt900 are all fine and will do the job. If you want the best bang for your buck buy some used mirage/paradigm/energy speakers since your also canadian. At any given time there are a bunch of 60 year olds selling their 2000's era made in canada speakers before the acquisition by klipsch that are better than almost any headphone below hd 800's for sub $200.
hd 600 just have no soundstage but that won't matter for what your using them for.

if you want some other recommendations for the $200-350 price tag you can check out r70x's. There are some on warehouse deals for $220 cad, and after you lie and scam the indians on customer support you should get another 20% off, they are basically just hd 600s but made in jp and have some more sound stage.

HD600 have dogshit imaging. Soundstage is a subjective thing so I won't mention that but imaging on those is awful. Not to mention the recessed bass you can't even EQ much because distortion.
>> lower THD
>A meme metric and a retard detector
Movies have way higher peaks than music does. Add EQ to that and you'd easily pass the threshold at which HD600 distorts in the bass.
>>105622451
>>dated drivers
>retarded take and you know it chang
Those 30 year old sr 007s distort like a motherfucker, good luck EQ'ing bass on those. The newer STAX models are phenomenal but their older models have issues with distortion.
490 Pro mogs all of Senny's HD6X0 models because it doesn't use 20 year old outdated drivers.
Also
>dt900 are fine

No. HD600/6XX is fine for music that doesn't rely on bass, though. Terrible for movies and vidya and anything with even a little bass.

they are literally twice the cost of the 6xx anon, that isn't the checkmate you think it is. Maybe if your are europoor and have to pay full price for the 600 line, which is a humiliation ritual itself. at $500+ cad there is no reason to buy them over aeons so that is fucking retarded

Oh, I agree with this. Aeons are the best headphones <$1000 imo. I know 490 Pro are twice the cost of the 6xx but I meant HD600 use such outdated drivers that even Senny's own headphones that are priced similarly are better. I'd take a 560S over a 6XX for everything that's not music.
>again it's low end tier, nothing here is well rounded in any sense of the word
Sure, but AR5000 don't have any huge dips or noticeable distortion so you can just EQ them and then they'll mog Senny's entire lineup since they don't distort that much in the bass and have very good imaging.

Hi /hdg/, my cheap headset is crumbling and it's long overdue for an upgrade, so I though I'd ask.

From some preliminary research, I have identified the Sony WH-1000XM6, Bose QuietComfort Ultra, Sonos Ace, and Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless.
I have had issues with build quality for Bose by the past, and I remember people here recommending against Sennheiser, but I haven't frequented the thread in a year or so. So I'd appreciate a refresher.

You can just add a mic to the headphones, most support that. For example:
SHP 9500 + Vmoda BoomPro ~$110
Fiio FT1(this one's closed back, though) + Meze Boom Mic ~$220
Or you could just get a desktop mic like the Blue Snowball and get something like HD560s though Sennheiser raised the price of those by a lot. They used to be 150 bucks. HE400SE is about 100 bucks and sounds decent but Hifiman's build quality is notoriously shit. I don't know how many of these are available in Russia but SHP 9500 and anything Hifiman or FiiO is on AliExpress as well.

You can. There are plenty of no name mics that you could use or you can add the Vmoda mic to them but you'll need an adapter for that. These are pretty great headphones but they use a proprietary connector with a lock in mechanism so you'd either need a mic that's explicitly stated to be compatible with this model or use an adapter so any boom mic will work. From what I see on >>105623678 this dude used an adapter(the silver part) and connected the Vmoda BoomPro to it. Get the metal adapters like this one because the plastic ones tend to snap

faiir point, honestly everything i've owned minus the r70x in that tier distorts so fucking insanely badly with eq that it wasn't even worth the time installing the programs. The 6xx with eq literally sounded like exploded subwoofers, I'm not even sure why the eq profiles existed. Headphones past that didn't seem to benefit with eq, if anything sounded worse or just too quiet with a lot of the setting provided such as hd 800 and aeons(open and closed).

>6xx with eq literally sounded like exploded subwoofers
They have rolled off bass and distort in that region as well so EQ'ing them to the Harman target will cause that. Most low tier DD headphones suffer from the same issues, sadly. The THD difference between the HD6X0 Sennheiser models and something like AR5000 is pretty big(see picrel) and it gets even bigger when you compare that with decent planars.
>if anything sounded worse or just too quiet
HD800 need a large boost in the bass to match the Harman target so adding a big enough negative preamp gain can cause that, yeah. And Aeons have really good tuning so the added bass from EQ'ing them to Harman might make them sound worse. It's a shame there's no perfect solution in the 200 dollar range for headphones. You either get something that distorts like a motherfucker or something with a lackluster tuning. Or you get a chinkfiman that doesn't suffer from either but will die after a year or two. FiiO had a chance to make a decent cheap planar with the FT1 Pro but fucked it up. As things stand you either get a DD headphone(with all the issues) or spend >=$500 and get an Aeon.

Got back from the store with the AR5000 and as a casual non-audiophile I liked the sound after comparing it with the HD600 there. The real deciding factor was actually the comfort; over the years I've kinda grown to dislike the cups, pads, and headband cushioning on the HD560S and the HD600 doesn't seem much different. Also it comes with a stand and has no need for an amp which is nice.

Unrelated but I tried a closed back for the first time (FIIO FT1) and there was this pressure in my ears that felt awful. Never had this issue with IEMs.

Glad you like them, anon. You can also EQ them if you think they're lacking in a particular area since they respond very well to EQ. Some people mod the HD600 headband to be more comfortable but suspension style headbands like the one on the AR5000 always end up being the most comfortable. And that pressure is more annoying with FT1 than a lot of closed backs because of the clamp force. But changing pads sometimes eliminates that. Funnily enough some Audeze cans give you the same or an even worse pressure sensation despite being open back.

>Sound signature (favourite music)
A bit of everything, but not at once. Trance, atmospheric electro, classic hip hop and folk music are mainstays. In periods, rock, country, classical, DnB, other bass-heavy music.
>Previous equipment
Currently use AKG K701 with an SPL Auditor amplifier and Cambridge Audio DacMagic Plus. Works alright, but miss some oomph in the low end. I know they get a lot of shit for being uncomfortable, but once you get past the break-in period and the bands slacken a bit, they're one of the more comfortable headphones I've used, and it's nice and easy to clean the earpads.
Have previously used Denon AH-D5000, which felt pretty good. Sound signature was fine, almost to the point of being boring, and got sweaty in the summer.
AKG K181 DJ, which have some bass, but weren't comfortable for use over time.
Grado SR-60, which I really liked, but weren't comfortable for use over time.

I was considering the Audeze LCD-2, which it seems I can use balanced from my amp, and a pair of Grado headphones for more fun sound.
I haven't tried the LCD-2, but from the reviews it looks a lot like what I'm looking for - A little warmer sound, a little more bass, and comfortable, if heavy.

Thanks!

shit is exaggerating but they certainly do have mediocre imaging for sure. Something people forget is that imaging is handled by game engines and will sound acceptable on any headphone, so its never gonna be bad just because the headphones have mediocre imaging. If the game has audio figured out then it'll deliver it to your headphones well.

bad imaging is more noticeable in stereo music, basically any kind of panning sound or enveloping sound will not really be immersive.

The movie thing I get even less. I actually quite like them for movies because voices sound great on them. Sure, even with EQ they'll never do deep rumbles like a planar, but I find that far more dispensable in comparison and it's worth noting that with EQ you still get much better bass than with your average consumer subwoofer. Imaging is less critical than in games and, again, is mostly defined by the mix and binaural rendering (or its absence).

>consumer sub
you can buy used speakers and subs for almost nothing in 2025, that would mog the 600s into oblivion if that's what your going to compare them too. They are fine headphones but next to speakers they are an absolute joke of a headphone, especially for the price.
