>>105606619Your making a small error here, X11R8 would be a spec update, aka feature changes, they are against development of X11, fixing bugs in the xserver is a different thing, if distros don't want to support the newer xserver, they can stay on an older stable branch that gets fixes.
enrico was making changes to the master branch , so the fact that it caused some breakage isn't surprising since he was trying to clean it up and potentially add features.
the problem with doing that is that the xserver hasn't been getting regular releases , so people have been using the master branch like its stable. and thats how the freedesktop people are treating it, and why they don't like enrico, because hes going against the status quo.
enrico seems completely happy to fix any problems he creates, so the idea that there is some kind of major problem with what he was doing is total BS even if his commits were not great, what he was doing wouldn't have became a stable release until all of the bugs were sufficiently worked out which takes years.
