im thinking of getting a newer 16gb gpu and finally going 4k oled. am i cooked? i built the pc in 2013 but upgraded the gpu to the current one in 2018 btw, so the gpu is already the newest component apart from the extra drives i installed over the years

there are more stutters than a modern pc would have but i run rdr2 online, cs2 and rts games released in the last few years at max settings 60fps. ironically i struggle the most in UE5 slop games and gmod out of all games, the gamemodes have become so bloated that the system i used to run gmod all the time a decade ago now struggles to do so.
im a thirdie btw and i would love to play all the games im playing right now but in 4k oled

Just so you know Samsung already showed off their 5K QD OLED back in January and many models based on the panel are expected to be released at the beginning of next year around CES time which should a few steps better in sharpness and get a bump in full-field brightness up to 300 nits which is finally on par with the norm for most non-MiniLED LCDs instead of just ~250 nits of current models . For their part LG are likely to begin production on a true RGB 4K OLED model late this year, again for release early next year as well so if investing in a new high-end monitor is a major deal for you, it might not be worth blowing your load right now unless and until there is a really good discount on one during Black Friday.

Also, it's easier for GPU to handle 4k.

couple of questions. I vaguely remember someone saying to avoid TUF GAMING stuff but that may have just been for monitors, should I not care for other stuff like motherboards?
Also I have a Ryzen 5 5600 6-core already, and was just picking based on the OP rec. Should I even bother rebuilding and just get a new gpu? Or is what you put in that listed worth upgrading for?

>>105609435
OLED will probably be the kind of upgrade you want and I don't want to tell you out of it if you really want one. I just know that I can't fully enjoy games / movies when I see stuff on screen that just manifested itself there permanently.

Chips can handle 110 degrees before you really need to worry about it. Yes it is still

but it's clear the gpu was designed with those things in mind. Most people won't be looking at the temps.

I think my Tower's power button might be broken. It blinked this morning when I tried to rouse it from sleep but it isn't responding. I durned off the power for a while and back on hoping that would do something but It doesn't.
Is there a way to turn the thing on forcefully? Get an external power switch from somewhere? Do something to the pins to effectively hotwire it? I never turned on "boot on power in the BIOS" so that doesn't work. I tried unplugging the power switch from the MB and back in but it still doesn't work.
The tower is from bequiet and the MB is an MSI B550-A pro.

Im still adamant about OLED flickering. Many reviewers only look at white rgb max values for measuring flickering. Some also reduce monitor brightness but still use rgb max values white, a white image to measure flickering. And yes its true on these values oleds dont flicker. But now look at picrel 31 rgb values and you can clearly see how OLED flickers (turns black) with each frame update. Reviewers are just so fucking dumb they test OLEDs like they test LCDs which is fucking dumb

To further my point: OLEDs do ABL dimming which destroys your gamma curve. OLEDs have per-pixel screen uniformity errors destroying your fine detail gradation. And then also OLEDs need per pixel warmup which means that going from complete black to higher values creates delays or spikes in response which is non-uniform with the rest of the screen creating eye cancer.

Desktop users donโ€™t even want more than 16 cores, let alone 48 of them. Even AMD is going to max out at like 32 cores for consumers next gen. Most of the top ten sold CPUs on Amazon are 6 and 8 core models and that includes the high end gaming chips. High core count is just stupid.

If it's still Arrow Lake based it may not help all that much. Intel's ace in the hole through Raptor Lake was their monolithic structure that allowed for superior latency backed by a cheaper (for them) vertically integrated process. ARL both of that away for basically nothing in return.

I was using a 55 inch hisense uh8 TV as my display. It was pretty good, blacks are deep, colors are bright, response time is good, goes up to 120hz (but I usually just run it in 60hz mode) but then after just one year it's starting to develop the blue spot issue, which, if you don't know, is when the backlight LED array starts turning blue in certain spots. It's not reversible and repairs usually tend to cost as much as a new unit.
All these years avoiding OLEDs because of burnin and this is like the third display i've had develop these blue fucking spots and bands so what's the point of avoiding one issue if I'll just get caught in another just as frequently?
If I went with a display instead of a TV would I be better off on lifespan?
Also going from 55 to like 20-30 inch display sounds pretty fucking jarring if I'm being honest with you so I just don't really know where to turn for a decent reliable display under a thousand bucks.

The sad part is response time has pretty much stalled around 6ms for TVs and no one seems to push further. Even OLED. It's not a function 99 percent of buyers care about.

I personally don't care much about response time sub 10ms to be honest with you but I don't really play fighting games so it never affected me.
I'm just so annoyed right now trying to find a replacement digging through TVs and displays and it's slowly starting to piss me off. All this spreadsheet comparing. I'm 38 so I unfortunately grew up in an environment where shit was made to last so I'm really averse to planed obsolescence. This is the third time I'm replacing a "perfectly good" tv because of this backlight bullshit and it's starting to wear on me. And I can't just get any ol' OLED because I don't work a 9 to 5, so my standard usage isn't 4-5 hours a day evenly spread out across the week. I work a 12 hour nights with rotating shifts so I go in cycles of 3 work days, 2 off days, 2 work days, 3 off days. So when I use my PC it's pretty spartan 2-3 day runs of like 10 hours gaming, 10 hours browsing the web, even when I sleep on off days I have videos playing and shit in the background. I'm basically kryptonite to OLEDs and it's making it hard as fuck to find a decent TV.

>>105611382
>was that tv from 2022? 3 year life span sounds low yes
I think so, I've literally had it for one year. I bought it June 8th last year. And it's just started doing this shit today (picrel)

I literally never heard of that meme, and this is like the third TV I've gone through with phosphor wearing off on the LEDs so I definitely don't believe they last forever. But I think tech shouldn't be this fucking disposable.

I have monitor only for a week. No eye strain no nothing. It is great. No ghosting, no text fringing (that I noticed). Picture is crisp clear.
>have you compared to ppi to a 32" qd?
I haven't, I just ordered 27" because I read a lot that 32" ppi is too low for oled. Text isn't as clear as on 27".
Not sure how useful this gonna be, but 27" feels kinda small. But I'm coming from ultra wide (49" ultra wide). I was considering second monitor to compensate size, but the more I use single monitor the more I like it. Makes me less distracted and more focused on what I'm doing right now.

No, the ptm is a sheet that softens at higher temps and you need like 2 months before it settles in to get the optimal performance out of it, kryo you just slap in and it works and it doesn't make a mess. It's not magical though, it wont give you much better performance than a decent paste with good spread. I ended up using Thermalright TFX paste (actually better) because my GPU wasn't compatible with the 0.2mm clearance for the sheet.

But when connecting, it somehow doesn't recognize my drives, which somewhat inhibits booting.
I have 2 "drives" connectors at the PSU for 2 cables that connect up to 4 drives each in line. I only got 3 SATA drives. How do I do it? The last one in the line remains free or the first one in the line remains free? Or is there another reason my drives aren't appearing? I checked the data connection.

dead pixels? rng and return your panel + oled pixels are probably more prone to dying over time but that is years down the line

if you want ultrawide get the LG 45GX950A I guess
but it will be inferior to all high end tvs I already mentioned that you can buy, especially the qdoleds, and if you want a 55" you are the sweet spot where they actually deliver all the brightness they can because of the size limitations, specifically on LG
literally nothing will be better than a S95F/S95D/S90F/S90D/G4/C4 in 55" this order from best to worst
that is if you are in USA where the S90D/F come in QDOLED panels in the 55" range

TUF motherboards and graphics cards are fine feature-wise, they used to be the best base-tier GeForce cards to buy.

There's not a single miniLED monitor with a top-class local dimming algorithm, some anon noted most of these panels & systems are made by AUOptronics.
You're either getting backlight blooming or dim highlights, and it's encouraged to disable the local dimming zones when you're viewing SDR content (turn off the feature you paid for most of the time).

From what I remember WOLEDs use white light and then filter the wavelengths to create the desired colour whereas QD OLED has a blue light emitter with some layer that transformed the wavelengths instead. I think the consequence out of this was that WOLEDs could just pass through white light whereas QD OLED needs to emit red, green and blue to recreate white and thus potential leading to faster burn in? In return however the colours of QD OLED were better or something like this cause you don't filter wavelengths. I also faintly remember reading somewhere that blue LEDs are the fastest to wear off but no idea if this is right and is related to this in any way so take it with a grain of salt.

I have a 5090 and it only happened at 600w. 5080 is saver but like I said the feature only ensures that you have stable 12V taking away the priority from the CPU as they describe it. They do this by branching from two of the cables you slot into a special two pin slot. Looks more like a gimmick than a feature.

The 5080 should have a good amount of head room. Unless you have a really bad cable it shouldn't melt cause it's hard to slot the newer 12V-2x6 connector in incorrectly. If you're really paranoid the Astral Cards allow you to see the ampere and pop a notification if you exceed 9.2A but they are more expensive and look like bricks.

heya, i'm trying to build a system for a friend which is basically going to be a paradox game station (Vicky 3 (i know..) and EU5). he has a 1080p display and will most likely not play anything else. Budget is ~1k EUR (Germany). I've come up with the first draft of a build that might work for him:

https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/Fdc6VF

but input would be greatly appreciated. I would've rolled with AM4 and the 5800x3d but it's seemingly no longer available. Case etc is just almost the cheapest option too because he doesn't care about it.

I should have noted the ampere display of the Astral is part of the GPU Tweak 3 Software for Windows. I dont know if they offer it for linux as well. If you get a cable make sure it's 600w rated or the 8 Pin adapter that comes with the GPU but you will need three free 8 Pins cause you cannot daisy chain. Seasonic seem to have a good quality cables and anons also like their PSUs but I never had one so no idea.

Wait for regional discounts, even premium monitors are discounted during the holiday season.

Debating between 64GB and 96GB system ram. I am interested in local AI shit and even if it never materializes could just host some virtual machines or keep a billion tabs open, won't be upgrading for another 7-8 years either. The price per GB actually goes down at that capacity. Does only VRAM matter for AI?

The efficiency rating is largely meaningless. What you really want to do is to look up a review of whatever PSU you find for a reasonable price and see if it has good voltage ripple etc so it won't fry your components. Protip: most PSUs by Superflower, Silverstone, FSP and Seasonic are solid. But still look for reviews rather than relying on brand.

Why do you give a fuck about what /v/tards have to say about your PC?
Build one that meets your budget and performance expectations.
It mostly boils down to a 9060XT/5060Ti (16GB) or the 9070/XT/5070/Ti.
B580 if you can find one @ $250 and you're budget-maxing.

Choose AM4/5 unless the Intel CPUs and motherboards are heavily discounted.
Not exactly spoiled for options.

Retarded meme and not what you should buy based on. The performance of a new gpu relative to your super old one doesn't matter. What matters is current demands for hardware and what you seek to play and at what settings. 5070 is shit for 1440p gaming especially a year or two from now with only 12gb and not enough raw power. 9070 XT, 5070 ti or better for high fidelity maxed 1440p or entry level 4k.

The step from 32 to 64 is much cheaper than the step from 64 to 96GB despite being the same increase in capacity!
I recently got a 64GB kit 6000CL28 for โ‚ฌ234 but the 96GB kit with same specs would have cost over โ‚ฌ500. I'm not into AI but if I was I would probably get the cheapest 192GB kit available.

9000 series is their most competitive generation since polaris. Adjusted for inflation even 9060 XT 16GB is the same price as the 480 pretty much and it's closest nvidia equivalents in price are two scam 8gb cards 5060 and 5060 ti 8gb just like 480 vs gtx 1060 3gb. But I'm guessing competitive for an nvidiot like you means AMD giving their gpus away for free at soup kitchens in the hopes that nvidia will lower their prices a bunch (they will never) so you can buy GeForce anyway.

Like yeah my 5090 reports 70 degrees at full load but the hotspot temp is ideal for diagnosing any problems, I literally had an issue with changing the pads on another gpu that caused the heatsink to be bent ever so slightly which caused extremely elevated hotspot temps, no longer diagnosable on the 50 series. >instead of them just building an x3d platform for half the price turning on xmp and being done.
he sold and has affiliated links for x3ds and have been shilling them too if you don't care about tuning
shit, he even showed the x3d having higher % lows in recent videos, the same claim about asset loading and the AMDip still continues though

What are you thinking? NR200(P) is one of the larger ITX cases and it only has room for a 280mm rad.

You don't need to upgrade if you have to ask.
Keep waitingโ„ข to see if AMD will improve the interconnect & the memory controller for Zen 6.
You can also waitโ„ข for Nova Lake-S to see if it can better utilize CUDIMMs, but I wouldn't keep my hopes up for this.

Also I remember having issues with AMD a long time ago so I always made sure to get Intel, is AMD ok nowadays?

Find some completed builds using a 360mm rad video card cooler with that A3 case to save you some headaches.
It's strongly advised to set the rad on the top panel for the pump's longevity, you need to pick a CPU cooler that will fit with the thickness of the rad + cooling fans.

Thermalright Peerless Assassin Mini 120 or Scythe Mugen 6 (dual fan) may work with a 360mm AIO rad on the top panel, but this is pure guesswork.

the mobos are generally handled so you attach a psu to them, stick an usb stick with the newest bios and click flash bios button and let it sit for 15mins. The mobo site has a detailed instructions for it.

otherwise the cpu wont work

For parts theres lots of overpriced stuff. Like you dont necessarily need win11 license that costs 100ยฃ, it can be bought from chinese sites for 5โ‚ฌ or activated for free, /g/ windows general has guide for it.
psu shouldnt cost more than like 120ยฃ
fractal north case doesnt need to be XL
the mobo can be bought for like <200ยฃ. The higher end ones mostly add more fast lanes for ssds but no impact on gaming perf.

Get a 6000MT/s CL30 memory kit if you want a hassle-free experience.
The memory controller in these Ryzen CPUs isn't guaranteed to run that 6400MT/s spec at the optimal 1:1 ratio (memory speed : controller speed).

You can get the 6400MT/s EXPO kit and dig through the BIOS to make sure the 1:1 MEMCLK:UCLK ratio is enabled, but I'd run some stress tests to make sure the configuration is stable.

5070 kind of feels bad with its 12GB, but it's not that bad if you're willing to change some settings.
5060Ti 16GB feels a bit too pricey but it's an alternative to the 9060XT, slightly better too.

Do you have at least one HDD? If yes, get the Lancool. Vertical mounted HDDs like in the Meshify 3 suffer from high temps due to no airflow at all. Inside the Lancool the HDDs are mounted close the front panel fan, so they have plenty of airflow.

I don't have any problems with the tech but jesus fuck they're so non-durable I'd rather pay 300 a year for a monitor than 700 a year for a TV and have basically the same experience. Not to mention that the TV is a problem with size. I can't deal dumping a 50+ inch monstrosity every year especially since I have nothing that big to get it in so I can't even pick one up in a store but have to get one with delivery which makes return/replacement a massive pain in the ass.
