AMD just wants Radeon to be relevant enough to get developer support for their software features like FSR4,
The developer support is gradually going to improve because the PS5 Pro and the PS6 will be using a similar upscaling solution.
AMD earns more money by producing Epyc/Ryzen CCDs out of the 4nm TSMC wafers.

Intel knows their Battlemage GPUs are not profitable enough to increase production.
They need to develop more area-efficient & performant GPUs before they're serious about increasing market share.

Go to the fan tab in the options and check whether your custom fan curve is disabled.
Worst case, just uninstall Afterburner.

You shouldn't unlock voltage control or voltage monitoring in Afterburner in the General tab.
1.1V is enough for a daily OC, the chip runs extremely power inefficiently past that.

Undervolt shouldn't mess with the default fan curve, especially since the GPU will be running at or below 1V.
Go to the MSI Afterburner folder (inside Program Files (x86) by default), go to the Profiles folder, and either move or delete all the files.
It will restore Afterburner to default settings.

I doubt the 9060XT will last you ten years, none of the GPU designers want people to own a video card for that long.
They are deliberately underspeccing most of the gaming GPUs to encourage people to buy a better card every 2~3 new generations.

Because the 4090 has over 16K CUDA cores, the 4080 Super has just a bit over 10K cores by comparison (5080 has 10.7K).
More processor cores usually means they have a lower boost ceiling.

Can't make a cross-vendor GPU core comparison, but the 7900XTX has 6144 shading units compared to the 9070XT's 4096.

Can anyone help me out, is HDR supposed to work this way?

I have an OLED monitor that is HDR10/HDR True Black 400.

HDR on windows is fucky, the colors are all screwed up, I'm using DP1.4 and when I turn on HDR display stream compresison is forced on in the monitor, is this causing the colors ot be fucked up and would getting an HDMI 2.1 cable fix it? Even after using the windows calibration tool the colors are still kind of weird, the only thing that fixes it is swapping the color profile from sRGB to P3, and that makes the colors look normal again. Is this is a normal requirement, having to swap color profiles in the monitor each time you want to watch HDR content? Kind of a pain in the ass.

There's a separate SDR content brightness slider option that appears when you activate Windows HDR.
You need to lower that slider to a level that makes sense for you, but it's recommended to enable HDR only when you're consuming HDR content (Windows key + Alt + B hotkey).
Your monitor should leave the sRGB preset when you enable HDR and vice versa, update your monitor's firmware if the SDR/HDR profiles aren't automatically switching.

I just don't get why nvidia even bothered spending billions on designing and taping out the rest of lackwell when they could have easily just rebranded ada and sell higher chip bins for lower cost and pocket the savings in r&d.

I want a good thing, but I'm not sure it exists. Everybody praises IPS and OLED over TN, yet it does not seem to match with my expectations of motion clarity.

It's not clear to me that anything beats TN's reliability and motion clarity at the same time, 10 years later. Am I missing something?

Either I'm mistaking, or if I'm not, it means I should look for a TN upgrade, that is some kind of 27" 240Hz VRR monitor that's not too expensive. But on RTINGS the table tool only goes back to 2019.

I'm only a veteran top 4%. I never went above as I wanted to enjoy more of the digital spectrum.

Also had a hard life that led me to buy a 9070, getting me good karma for trying to steer the gaming balance in a more sustainable direction. The market is beyond sanity.

There’s nothing wrong with NVIDIA or other GPU designers offering exclusive performance enhancements for their products, that’s just part of competition.

If you make these features vendor agnostic, you get weird shit like Radeon customers funding the development of FSR that benefited a larger number of Nintendo Switch gamers (Zelda runs with FSR1 enabled, on a custom NVIDIA Tegra SoC).

1. They said that themselves.
2. They released pro version GPU that coincidentally has same stats as your imaginary 9080 xt.
I'm sorry

I'm not blaming performance enhancements, I'm blaming bloated feature sets. Even consoles are not a haven of simplicity nowadays, as their options are being expended.

As for PC, the number of proprietary features is too much for an average user. It either mean the user won't have time to understand what he has under his hands, which is its problem, but you can't deny even more enthusiast level users are getting overwhelmed by the amount of features.
Just take anti-alisasing, have you seen the number of different combinations? Pair that with all of the upscaling features where each brand has different versions.

It's a general philosophical state. Everything is getting bloated, and minimalism is not getting cheaper.

Reflex improves gaming performance by reducing system latency, and GSync reduces screen tearing (Ultimate & Pulsar improves motion clarity).

Pretty sure the option to enable Reflex only appears on systems with a GeForce card, you want to enable this in all supported games (as long as implementation isn’t buggy).
GSync option appears on the NVIDIA driver or the App so that’s a non issue.

Bloat is not about a specific feature as you mention. It's about a cumulation of specific features.

DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling)
RTX Ray Tracing
Reflex Low Latency
G-Sync
NVENC (NVIDIA Encoder)
CUDA (Compute Unified Device Architecture)
RTX Video Super Resolution
RTX IO
DLAA (Deep Learning Anti-Aliasing)
RTX Remix
Omniverse
ShadowPlay
Ansel
GameWorks
RTX Direct Illumination (RTXDI)
DLSS Frame Generation (DLSS 3, 3.5)
RTX Path Tracing
RTX Broadcast (with AI-powered features like virtual background, noise removal)
NVIDIA Studio Drivers
RTX Voice

AMD is the same.

Now list the ones that you need to turn on when you’re maximizing a competitive shooter’s gaming performance.
If your monitor has backlight strobing, Reflex is the only relevant setting.

The NViDIA App can automatically enable optimized game settings for people like you who just want to play the game.
Giving more options to people to fine tune their gaming experience is not a negative.

First of all you don't understand what I am and what I seek.

Secondly, of course giving options to people is a good thing. The problem is that you make the access of optimized quality tied to the bloat.

You think the Nvidia optimizer is sufficient, which is not. It is only if you accept that it will lower the standards, as any competent person don't rely on it. Veteran gamers or technical persons will for example make Youtube videos of settings or share them on forums.

To maximize a competitive shooter, you need more than Reflex into account. DLSS for example is a detriment as it will blur contours, so you need to understand how it works.
ShadowPlay impacts performances, and can cause stutter if the replay feature is ON.

And of course let me indicate that you're moving the goal post. We were speaking about bloating as a generalized aspect, but you're trying to paint the picture of a fictional gamer that only optimize his game relying on proprietary Nvidia features.

Without Reflex, the CPU sends the latest frame data to the GPU as fast as the CPU can.
If the GPU is fully occupied with rendering earlier frame data, the latest frame data sent by the CPU is stuck in the render queue and you get higher system latency.

Reflex instructs the CPU to pace its frame data delivery rate so it doesn’t overwhelm the GPU.
The GPU is able to render the latest frame data with less delays in this scenario.
This is why you see GPU utilization below 99% with Reflex on, it’s deliberately keeping the render queue unoccupied.

I am bringing up the shooter scenario because this discussion was borne out of a GSync Pulsar display.
Don’t act like this shit is rocket science if you’re a competent gamer.
Literally 0 competitive games enable DLSS by default.
You have to opt-in to enabling Instant Replay on the NVIDIA App.
You only need to turn on Reflex.
Now shut the fuck up with your inane bitching.

Imagine crying about having the choice to enable DLSS/DLAA/DLDSR or frame gen.
Each of these either increases FPS that allows you to enjoy RT (if you’re into that) or improve the image quality by reducing aliasing.

Not to mention that the TV is a problem with size. I can't deal dumping a 50+ inch monstrosity every year especially since I have nothing that big to get it in so I can't even pick one up in a store but have to get one with delivery which makes return/replacement a massive pain in the ass.

Depends on your philosophy and price, you can't really upgrade it any further down the line except the gpu. This can be an ok move if you can get it really cheap and then buy everything new except gpu during the AM6 era.

If you go for AM5 you can try to buy a lower end/used cpu that cover your needs right now and then go for the end of life maximum power nuclear level x3d-cpu in a couple of years.

I would go for AM5, but I'm really smart, I talked to squirrel just last thursday when I was out and about and he told me I have at least 500 IQ points.

Basically, if you choose 5060ti/9060xt 16gb models pair with 9600x if only for gaming. 5070/9070 and up you can go for the x3d cpus.

generally yes, you don't want to be wasting your budget on an expensive cpu if you have a rtx5070, rx9070 or slower gpu.
but if you play cpu heavy games like MMOs you can prioritize cpu performance and get a 9800x3d

Mostly good as long as you know about the schizos and their amd/nvidia/intel/samsung/wd wanking/hate.

For this particular OP you can see the SSD and GPU wanking. The next one will probably be other way around.

For SSD:s Samsungs stuff is a little better then WD. 990 Pro > SN850X and 990 Evo Plus > SN7100. But they're really close to each other so just buy the ones that's cheaper. Most don't even need a drive with dram so they can skip 990pro/SN850X, it was more of a thing with the non 2.5 inch ssds.

For GPUs: If only gaming, AMD is usually better price for performance if you can buy stuff for MSRP. If the equivalent cards are close in price, go for Nvidia.

If you do other stuff besides gaming, choose Nvidia.

Some things could be added as well. For example for CPU-coolers the Id-Cooling Frozn A620 Pro SE is similar performance to the Phantom Spirit and even cheaper.

To get a proper nvme get a micron pro or a micron max. Other ssds can have significantly worse worst case latencies and also have way worse durability.

If you ever plan on switching to linux Id buy and amd gpu. Otherwise its pretty solid. If you buy a used nvme get a micron server one. They are very durable so used is not a problem with them. If you can get a 12gb vram GPU that would be a big plus. 8gb can stutter in recent games or force you to turn down textures to lowest.

At first, I could get over the shame of overpaying with the first month or two of enjoyment+tariff concerns keeping prices high, but now 4 semi-recent games I wanna play just wouldn't launch on it, and its value was dropping precipitously. I thank that guy immensely. He will use the 5090 for modded COD. I feel bad sending a chip of that class to an early retirement with fucking modded cod but fuck those drivers man. NVENC is the video encoder, CUDA is the parallel computing language of the GPU that allows developers to do shit with AI and other applications that require parallel compute such as 3d design (cad), 3d modeling (blender), automotive, a bunch of shit uses CUDA that simply won't run as well on AMD gpus or the ROCm equivalent. It's why NVIDIA dominates the productivity space and why every single streamer uses an NVIDIA gpu. Anybody making money with their PC is inclined to buy NVIDIA. AMD has always been the value "gaming" option since that's mainly what their cards are good at doing (using more power than NVIDIA for the same FPS) but that's it.

not that anon but NVME is faster only when switching between 2 NVME drives. They both have to have fast write/reads or else you'll transfer as fast as your weakest link. For example: If you have a drive that can write 4000mb/s, and you try to transfer to a SATA HDD or SSD with 400mb of read, you will only get 1/10th of your speed because the weakest link is your SATA connection.

My question is: for a production workload, would I be better off running 4x32GB sticks (128GB ram)? Or 2x32GB for optimal dual-channel performance (64GB ram)?

Specs:
Asrock B650E PG Riptide

Because if you disable in BIOS you free up actual processor internal resources that are statically allocated while smt is on. Like TLB entries etc.

Also if windows assaults your sibling threads randomly then process lasso doesnt help enough. Try it for yourself if you dont believe me

Probably because the game's compiling shaders in real time just like the original Elden Ring.
Performance should improve over time.

The cores in the 5600G run more like a 3600X, but it's still good enough to work on that config.

After you've seen all the possible environment seeds.
The game engine is quite CPU-demanding probably because it's got some leftover PS3 (Cell) code from the original Demon's Souls.
Environments with heavy particle effects like waterfalls are going to tank FPS because a single CPU thread is calculating the physics for it.

It's fine to go Intel if you're getting a great deal out of the CPU & motherboard bundles (sometimes including memory kit and/or SSD).
If the building cost is similar to a Ryzen equivalent, there's less justification for gaming.
LGA1851 is only getting Arrow Lake Refresh as its final set of supported CPUs, the refresh CPUs are more likely to just factory OC the CPU core/ring/memory controller.

Video card upgrade is far more impactful for gaming, especially @ 1440p.
I'd also check if you have at least a 3200MT/s CL16 memory kit.

Memory chip manufacturers are winding down DDR4 memory production, so it's not a bad idea to get a 3200/3600MT/s kit if you don't have one.

9070 without a second thought. That's like a threefold jump in performance. 6600 is a bottleneck even at 1080p, CPU upgrade won't change that.
If you want a better CPU to go with it I'd look at the 5700X3D, but that's if you already have 3200/3600MHz RAM and your games installed on an NVMe SSD.

Any mini-LED monitors under a thousand bucks?
Honestly all I need in a monitor is to be durable. I'd love an OLED but I frequently have my PC in constant use for multiple days at a time I'm afraid it's gonna have game and youtube UIs burned in within months if not weeks.
I just wanna watch youtube videos and play at 60fps (Preferably 4k) I don't need sub-1ms response times and shit I've been gaming between 0.6 and 0.10 for so long I really don't care that much, I'm sure 0.3ms latency is amazing but I've never had it so I won't miss it. Not like I play competitively or PVP for that matter so it isn't that important. And no ghosting when mouse cursor goes over gray background would be great. Other than that I don't have preferences.
Bonus if Amazon has next day delivery on it so I don't have to wait much but really it's not that big of a deal.

Well 64gb DDR5 is a lot less hassle than DDR4 as the modules are generally denser (16gb dimms are pretty common for DDR5) but yeah for just two chrome tabs and some video games 64gb is a fucking lot with very few benefitting from it now (MSFS being a prime example). I'm just a fan of loads of memory in general.

It's a tech demo, this isn't even close to the adoption rate of Turing's DLSS.
AMD's been researching this tech as well, this won't become mainstream until gaming console manufacturers are ready to implement it.

If your case has a decent airflow design, the first 2~3 case fans are the most impactful (front intake priority, 1 rear exhaust depending on the case).
I think an anon with a 4090 in an O11 case thought I was bullshitting.
He compared the GPU temperature difference with the bottom 3x120mm fans on or off under a Furmark load.
The temperature difference was around 2~3°C, it's not big enough to provide a noticeable performance improvement (+15MHz boost clock difference best case).

Both are researching it, one has the working tech demo that exists. Adoption rate is zero because it is new technology, but it is easily apparent that having 4x the effective VRAM by using the more modest approach (or any future compromise type) will provide great value to everyone. Just halving the VRAM usage would be enough to solve virtually all the bitching. Since Playstation uses AMD I doubt it will be a consideration on that console, they will just provide it with enough physical memory. So then the real make or break comes from whether it will be implemented on AMD's side on PC DIY; they have 8GB current generation cards right now, so if Nvidia can use their leverage to push for adoption of neural texture compression and the other side can't then that is going to be a marketing masterstroke.

I'm trying to find out my motherboard manufacturer so that I can attempt to upgrade the bios.
Problem is this was a pc specialist build so the mother board only appears as notebook manufacturer with the serial number. I had a look on the motherboard when I swapped ram and it's just the serial number as well by the looks of it.
Any ideas how I can find out who the manufacturer is so I can update the bios? Or is it impossible?

I'm looking to upgrade my ancient 1080p monitor but I won't (and probably never will) be willing to spend too much money on my PC as hobby, so no fancy GPU now or ever. Considering this, would it be a bad idea to skip 1440p entirely, get a 4K monitor for browsing and productivity, but gaming on it at 1080p only (since it scales nicely)? Picrel is what I'm looking to buy (there's probably marginally better alternatives but I need a small base footprint).

NVIDIA can't even release a publicly downloadable real-time demo of this tech.
By the time the neural texture compression feature is available in actual games, there's going to be RTX 60/70/80- generation cards that will run this feature at lower rendering latency.
This is worse than shilling RT when Turing cards just launched.

Yeah I tried using the terminal, system I formation, the bios, it all just says notebook. The motherboard was printed by hannstar, the CPU holder is made by foxconn, who used to make motherboards but shit down some time ago. Me again, it arrived and I quickly unpacked it. Running it with HDR and Adaptive Sync turned on in Eco Mode, which was the default mode when I first turned it on. Took a while to adjust to 160hz.

GTA Online felt really smooth to look at with the high refresh rate and the 4k.

If that monitor is on discount below 400 Euros, it's a definitely good choice.

SMT sadly didn't do the trick. It made my performance worse in Elden Ring. But I managed to fix the Freezing problem that 2042 had. I had to enable ReBAR in the BIOS and that did it. Still, the average performance of some games is not optimal. Benchmarks online show much better performance so I guess I just need to upgrade my CPU then.
