For FreshRSS with youtube (+ invidious) i found this a few days ago to disable livestreams and shorts popping up:
https://github.com/FreshRSS/Extensions/issues/234#issuecomment-2833903131

So for Gamers Nexus you edit the feed URL from:
https://www.youtube.com/feeds/videos.xml?channel_id=UChIs72whgZI9w6d6FhwGGHA

to

https://www.youtube.com/feeds/videos.xml?playlist_id=UULFhIs72whgZI9w6d6FhwGGHA

Very interesting, thanks! I pretty much gave up on using RSS for YouTube because of shorts.

I don't need to be notified of the latest happenings I can just check my websites at my leisure.

Didn't YouTube kill off channel RSS feeds a year or two ago anyway?
Anonymous No.105627136 [Report] >>105627162
post good feeds
https://standardebooks.org/feeds/atom/new-releases
https://philip.greenspun.com/blog/feed/atom/
https://www.seangoedecke.com/rss.xml
https://devblogs.microsoft.com/oldnewthing/feed
also RSS sucks and Atom is way better
if you want to make a feed, make an Atom feed

>if you want to make a feed, make an Atom feed
Well that'd defeat the purpose of running a website you can enjoy with software from the '90s

visitors can enjoy your website and/or gopherhole normally, anon
and Atom became a thing only in 2005
Isn’t that old enough?

I have never used RSS and I have no idea what it does. It sounds like a notifier but I can just check up on things myself.

No. The link to them is just hidden now. The only reason I still use youtube is because I can follow channels I'm interested in through RSS feeds and pipe them into yt-dlp+mpv. There are several channels I follow that are basically shadow banned. Subscriptions randomly get removed and even when they're enabled most of the videos those channels upload don't show up in web browser feed. But the RSS feeds always work

it’s an XML file that’s just a list of site updates
A feed reader like https://netnewswire.com or https://feedbin.com will poll that file every so often and let you know when new things are available
The NNW site says feeds are “podcasts for reading”, and that nails it — podcasts are just RSS or Atom feeds with linked mp3 (or whatever) files in their entries

Not him but I've never understood dedicated RSS readers. Your mail client likely already supports it and you've always got it open anyways. I use Thunderbird

I use mutt as mail client that's why. I could use emacs for RSS feeds (and email) but I try to keep it limited to the main reason I have it installed: creative writing and coding. I learned my lesson about using it for everything when I spent those years using EXWM.
