I'm a visitor from /twg/. People who do this are by and large NPCs and it doesn't work because everyone is doing it and the numbers are made up, and quite obviously so. It can work, but only if the numbers are believable and the metric you improved actually matters. I see lots of shit where people improved page load times by 50% in an application where it probably doesn't really matter much if it takes a page 1 second or 2 seconds to load - no company is making back office software purchasing decisions based on "our users complain it's slow - but now that it's a little bit faster suddenly we're going to pay your company $25,000 a month when previously we were going to go with your competitor" Page load times are a footnote in the list of reasons to buy or not to buy a piece of software, unless it went from 30 seconds to load a page to 1 second, but in that case you just work for a shit company and you're painting yourself as a slop-cleaner-upper, not a real engineer. Same with implementing a feature that you claim resulted in 50% improvement in customer satisfaction (impossible to measure let alone correlate to that particular feature so obviously bs). There are plenty of examples where this format works, but it needs to be one of the good examples and you shouldn't be a robot about it, because it's just not necessary, if it's truly a good example then it should speak for itself.

I also really hate the "Made x, resulting in a y% improvement in <metric>, <subjective phrase ending in -ing such as "streamlining the user experience"> we get it, you wanted it to sound more sophisticated. But it should be obvious from your "Made x" part what the benefit is, if you need to spell it out at the end then that's a good indication that your bullet point doesn't have the oomph that you think it does

bros, I need help. I quit my non IT job few months ago thinking I could crack a job in linux. So I tried to learn linux at job level. Got the RHCSA cert all that. I thought it would be enough to get a job but the recruiters wants me to have cloud skill as well. I'm willing to learn cloud. But, is there any way to learn AWS or Azure without giving my debit card info to these evil corps? They all require Debit/Credit card to setup the learning environment.

Sign up for privacy.com or something similar. You give them your debit card or a bank account as a funding source and they let you generate virtual credit cards with arbitrary limits on them. Make a $1 limited card and use that for your cloud provider.
Also certs are worthless and you're wasting your time.

Current situation is that I'm an unpaid intern somewhere, which is my only internship as a rising senior, and I'm not sure how well it'll count.

My parents are generously paying for my college tuition in full.

Dumb question: should I get a last-minute minor to have rationale to extend my graduation by 1 semester and have 1 more internship cycle? Since it's not looking like I'm pulling fall co-ops/internships any more easily than I've been pulling summer ones.

And if I do, how can I convincingly lie to my dumbass Asian parents about getting a co-op so they'll be willing to pay for shit or whatever? Like maybe I could just drive to school but claim that I'm driving to my office, etc.

I work for a Belgian company called SDworx. I work for their Poland office as an IT support "engineer" with a Hay level 13. Poland, Spain, and Mauritius are considered the โ€œtech hubsโ€, basically where they outsource most of the tech work like dev, IT support, etc. The main office is in Belgium obviously.

In the latest CEO podcast, they announced a new tech hub is going to open in India. Honestly, Iโ€™m surprised it didnโ€™t happen sooner, but itโ€™s still a bit concerning. Recently, a few of my colleagues in Mauritius (not in IT, but in the infosec dept) were laid off. Still not 100% clear why, but it seems like theyโ€™re going through some kind of cost-cutting phase. Another thing, we used to get HP laptops, but now all the new ones are Dell 5520s, and theyโ€™ve been pretty terrible. Lots of issues. Just feels like corners are being cut.

Should I actually be worried, or is there nothing to stress about yet?

I'm starting at a new university this fall to finish my bachelor's after getting an associate's in programming and also to get some internships. It's one of the best public universities for CS in my state and is in an area with a lot of tech jobs but I'm not optimistic about the job market at all.
This is going to be a waste of time and money, right? I should either switch degrees or just find a job in blue collar or retail/foodservice. I don't know which degrees I should switch too though, I'm autistic as fuck and there's no way I would get along with anyone in a normie degree field like marketing or finance.

CS is oversaturated to hell, physics, chemistry, biology as degrees are largely useless unless you go into research. engineering is also oversaturated, but at least you can get security clearance government work.
>job in blue collar
blue collar replacement has been going on for even longer than the current white collar offshoring exodus, and now that learn2code as a corporate psyop to drive down wages to complete, learn2weld will be the next so good luck there as well.

I don't know if it's time to learn java. It's the most loved language where I live (not India btw).
The problem is that I've worked as a freelancer all my life and HR departments hate me for this.
So, I don't know if it's worth trying to learn another tech or just renewing my business and even steering away from programming.
I don't even have money to invest sadly.

It feels like there isn't much companies want to buy from me right now and improving at java doesn't feel like it would help me.
I don't know. Thanks for trying to help btw.

is this really true, i thought the main reason for existence of american mafiosos was because they had a huge exodus post-war as things became relatively stable and lawful in the wake of dozens of installed leaders genuinely too naive and new to The Game to be as corrupt as necessary (or at least corrupt in the necessary ways, or frustratingly incompetent at their corruption) to let pre-great war mafioso-controlled burgs flourish like they did previously

i'm not a history buff so maybe you're right; most of my knowledge of mafioso shit comes from the context of canadian gangsters i've read about, where most of the history of each of them is "[country] either fucking collapsed so hard no one even had money for black market goods or got rich and liberal enough that crime was no longer profitable or became annoying to do so they moved here where things were still really fucking dumb" with italian "black hand" types mostly moving to the new world less because newly installed italian leaders were anti-crime and more that they were all Literally Whos who were easy to bribe but not particularly effective at doing the things you bribe them for, and newfound wealth from post-war gibs made their less violent services irrelevant or too competitively priced to remain restricted to italy

There's really no point in hiring people with no experience when there's so many people with experience who are out of a job. Say you get hired, you then have to be trained way longer to get up to speed, then you'll just job hop once you get your experience. Better to just skip you altogether.

1. I guess I never really learned "proper" programming. It worked out fine at my last job because I was mostly just a code monkey, but what should I know if I'm looking for a better job? I did use pseudocode (and occasionally a whiteboard for database/ER diagrams or UI planning) at my last job, but I feel like I'm missing a good bit of info. I've never done anything to do with unit testing, and I don't know that I even did speccing properly. What sort of course should I study to learn that?
2. Is agile still the most prevalent development methodology? We were supposed to use that at my last job, but they were lazy about it. Should I study it?
3. I never really learned how to use an IDE's debugger; I would just print stuff to console (a lot of the time I've just used a text editor anyway). Should I learn that?

Meh, I don't hate mine, it's just whatever... They basically ignored me as a kid/teenager and focused on my more interesting siblings. I figured they didn't really like me since I spent most of my time on the computer/internet (back in the 90s/00s). They started caring more once I graduated and got a real job and made a lot of money, so we got closer for a little while. But then one day my dad got too drunk and told me that he kind of avoided me when I was a kid because I was so boring. I guess I was right all along, so now I have kind of an arms-length relationship with them. We talk on the phone for holidays and occasioanlly, but I haven't seen them in years.

They do now, because most of those jobs are at MSPs where they expect you to sit in a nonstop phone queue and fix anything that uses electricity. You'll be expected to do everything from password resets to building servers and fucking with every box that has anything to do with networking. Don't worry, you'll be doing all that for about the same pay as McDonalds, too.

I know there are niches that the white man can never be displaced from, that are protected by clearances or trade secrecy or that are simply too crucial to companies' revenue to entrust to GPT-wielding curryniggers

I haven't been to /g since the AI revolution began, but in the last couple of months I created a startup and I'm finally making bank. I made over $10k this month and I wanted to check in to see how everyone else is doing. It feels like we're at the beginning of something beautiful. No longer do you need to work for someone else. If you have a good idea and can market it, the AI agents (plural) literally solve everything for you. Claude costs me $100 a month but has made me thousands in return.

Just looking at OP's picture it's evident that this field is deprecated. Imagine going to college for 4 years to learn how to cooode. Lmao.. we're at the beginning of the AI revolution and it feels good bros. How has AI changed your wagie life?

My last (and first full time) job was working for this boomer on his pet project. He had this rube goldberg-esque library he had written over the years - data classes derived from data classes, multiple methods that did very similar things. just overengineered to hell. I was tasked with making some apps on top of it. It was pretty fun figuring out his code and he was very helpful but I didn't learn any actual skills. By the end he got too busy and it was just me working on it but I wasn't making much progress and got laid off. I still barely know how to code, atleast in the sense that might be required for regular jobs. I feel like I might never get hired again.

Art history majors are far more likely to have worked in hospitality or customer service before as well as be more willing to go back into it
Engineers however are a) less likely to have food service experience, b) more inclined to not stoop to something 'lower' than the STEM field they prepared for (a frame of mind that was up until recently fully justifiable), and c) often antisocial spergs who NEED to be in a non-human-facing position and can't just hop fields into a position whose only requirements are interpersonal skills and approachable demeanor.

Degree is a minimal requirement. No degree = autotrashed resume.
During your degree you were supposed to get at least 2 internships (no, it does not count as work experience, but it does count for something) at fagman and network with the rich chads in your classes.

OFFICIAL INTERVIEW RACISM POWER RANKINGS
>JEW INTERVIEWER
you only got the interview because he thinks you're "in on it". you're guaranteed to get the job if you dont spill your spaghoots. if it were a fake job or otherwise not the case that this is two old boys hanging out, he would have sent a goy to deal with you instead.
>NIGGER INTERVIEWER
tyrones and shaniquas are not attracted to hr and not normally let into hiring positions anyway. to be interviewing you they're probably a massive uncle tom and true believer in capitalism and the hiring process. your interview will go well if you are at least as competent as the baseline desired and, more importantly, truly believe in your saelf.
>CHINK INTERVIEWER
bred from birth to get where he is, he will tolerate nothing short of absolute perfection in anyone else, even if deep down he knows he's not perfect himself. likely to be fooled by unicorn resumes and bring you in for an interview in good initial faith, but will grill the fuck out of you and you will not survive. if you are genuinely 2000iq he won't care about your race but if given the chance between a 200iq white and a 197iq chink he will take the chink (but dream at night of personally executing every <193iq chink though)
>SLAV INTERVIEWER
similar to a nigger interviewer, but there will always be a pang of superiority within him, whether it is because he's a rich oligarch wannabe or someone who escaped an ex-soviet hell and overly proud of it. either way, he thinks he's better than you and will not be afraid to show it. will probably crush your hand during the greeting handshake.
>JEET INTERVIEWER
if you aren't a jeet yourself you ain't getting the job. and even if you are a jeet, if you aren't of the appropriate caste for the position relative to him in the org chart you're also SoL
>WH*TE INTERVIEWER
the job was fake. you're only there to be documented as failing the interview so he can just import more jeets (or slavs, if in yurop)

>>WH*TE INTERVIEWER
There's a very strong split here.
The interviewer's a white man over 35? You've got a fair shot. Might grill you but the job is real and the position is within reach for you.
The interviewer's a white man under 35? The whole thing's a scam or won't exist in 12 months, run.
White woman? Not a snowball's chance in hell, you were dead in the water before you even got an interview. Basically brought in as a humiliation ritual.

(these are the weaker sorts of decks so calling someone a timmy is tantamount to calling them a noob)

theres not much of a joke. the nordic countries mostly make their money on energy, so even stuff not directly employed by an energy company or having to do with extraction will probably either adjacent to it, or pure service industry. and the cost of goods and living is very high so even if you have a good job, it's a bit of a sticker shock on top of the notoriously high taxes.

Only norway really makes money on oil. Sweden mostly makes drugs and cars when they're not busy making tech unicorns like spotify. Finland does forestry and metals, with alcohol and food on the side. Otherwise they invent things like Linux. Denmark is mining, transport and drigs, and finance unicorns.
They all have decent tech opportunities.
Prices are definitely higher than, say, portugal, but it's comparable to france while the pay is around 10-20% higher overall.

Full Stack At Work 9 to 5, First Line Tech Support if I'm on call.

Also I just got off call with their HR. They actually want to pay me less than I used to get and they value me as a "junior developer". When asked how they decided that they said people with 1-2 years usually are junior, then I said that I have over 5 and they said "ohh we're just HR you were valued like this you can work for us for like a year and then we'll see maybe you're better than you were valued"

These "people" don't deserve to fucking breathe.

And no I'm not using full stack like a nigger, I actually have working experience with Angular, Vue, React and have also done backend both Monoliths with Java Durgasoft, Node and I also know Python, Bash. I worked as a sysadmin before.

I'm fuming.

No, it's bad, because if I have a freelance contract I do not get any kind of help from the state. I need it to be an Italian contract regulated by the sate and under 34k euros so I don't get taxed to death.

Average salary in north Italy if it's not a big city like Torino and or Milan is like 24k-29k for a dev with a few years of experience.

my company started contract hiring indians to "support" our existing team (we somehow had trouble hiring when there's a fuck ton of people looking for work)
eventually after training these people half our team was laid off due to "lack of work" and they're looking to hire more jeets to backfill
i would say if your company starts hiring indians it definitely won't stop even if the quality is trash as long as they get paid pennies on the dollar it's worth it to the company's bottom line
start looking for new work

Aus.
For reference, on our local indeed (seek.com.au) there are currently 357 "software developer" jobs (in the IT category) in a 50km radius and they list jobs for up to 30 days. From what I've seen there's an average of about 400 applicants per job too.

it wasn't a technical assessment in the traditional developer sense, it was a bunch of typical interview questions
one asked about the differences between b2b and b2c products, another asked about how I would approach designing software for non-technical users
there was also a whiteboard exercise where i was asked to provide feedback on an example design, with the design having a lot of obvious mistakes

I don't know where you are but we have that over here too and it's totally bogus. As usual it's a correlation-causation issue. Plus you have no guarantee it will still be in demand in 2 years when you're ready to get into an apprenticeship.
In any case typically the 'in demand' jobs don't pay enough to keep a roof over your head even after years of experience and actually have enough supply that they are gated by those currently in the profession

I've been relying on GPT for emotional support and to help me stay motivated to find work. Are there any entry-level jobs for incompetent retards like myself these days? I have no fucking idea what people who work in software even do, and from what I hear the difference between the actual work and the shit we are learning in school is like day and night. Pharmacy techs don't get paid shit, so it's not like I'm currently looking to make a lot of money. Just need a more hands-on way to be proactive.

Pharm techs routinely make over 50/hour base without certification, more with. Even more as travel techs. There usually also is a monthly ot quarterly performance bonus scheme that can be quite hefty depending on conpany.
The average tech worker makes $38.46 an hour, required a 4 years degree and corresponding debt, works 10+ hours salaried (so that 38 an hour becomes 30.7), and has no bonus.

No, I pharmacists make a lot more than that and have further upward mobility. I'm also not talking abput bumfuck nowwhere wages at 0 years of exp. That would be more like 20/hour. To compare to a fresh tech grad in a major non-bay metro, you must assume 4 years and no certification, or 4 years and cerrification to compare to a tech worker with a cert, in a corresponding non-bay metro. Just like tech workers can be stuck at 30-50k lifetime cap if they decide to work in hospitals and you would never use that figure to talk about tech wages, pharmacist tech wages in hospitals are comparable (in terms of positipn) to rech workers working in tech companies. Orherwise costco and walmart for instance is comparable to tech workers working in larger non-tech companies (mostly meaning crap pay). Othee confounsing factors must also be handled in similar ways. For example the workload of tech workers despite being salaried vs pharmacy techs which nevertheless are hourly.
