>>105594797I'm retard
another day of nothing :DDDDDDDD
how are you going to survive the great depression 2.0?
which roadmap.sh are you going through?
is it normal for level 1 helldesk jobs to require prior experience and certs? i swear there aren't any real entry level jobs in my area
>>105632118i need to go through probably all of it. even though i have one internship and a year of 'frontend developer' experience on paper, i don't know shit. i don't even like frontend. i also don't even have a cs degree.
>>105632118no, just make shit
is writing a CPU simulator a meme project?
i imagine it'll be kind of fun writing a lil ol' risc babby computer and then trying to program it to do fun stuff
AHAHAHAHAHAHA NIGGERS NIGGERS NIGGERS NIGGERS I GOT THE JOB LOL SUCK THE DANK BETWEEN MY TESTICULAR BALLS
>>105634383Congrats anon!
>>105633479align your projects with the kind of jobs your applying for
>>105634383have fun in /twg/ anon!
I had forgotten how soul crushing it feels to send a bunch of applications just to get ignored or immediately turned down... surely it's just a matter of time, right anon?
>>105634819i don't feel anything at all. all i hope is i land 1(one) job by the end
>>105634383Just put the fries in the bag, anon.
>>105634383congrats anon, cya in 6 months
Do you really have to write your CV in the:
"Made x, which resulted in a 99% increase in y"
format? That seems really gay and retarded
>finally got an interview after 3 weeks of non stop applying
I thought it was over, but weโre so back bros
>>105634996I'm a visitor from /twg/. People who do this are by and large NPCs and it doesn't work because everyone is doing it and the numbers are made up, and quite obviously so. It can work, but only if the numbers are believable and the metric you improved actually matters. I see lots of shit where people improved page load times by 50% in an application where it probably doesn't really matter much if it takes a page 1 second or 2 seconds to load - no company is making back office software purchasing decisions based on "our users complain it's slow - but now that it's a little bit faster suddenly we're going to pay your company $25,000 a month when previously we were going to go with your competitor" Page load times are a footnote in the list of reasons to buy or not to buy a piece of software, unless it went from 30 seconds to load a page to 1 second, but in that case you just work for a shit company and you're painting yourself as a slop-cleaner-upper, not a real engineer. Same with implementing a feature that you claim resulted in 50% improvement in customer satisfaction (impossible to measure let alone correlate to that particular feature so obviously bs). There are plenty of examples where this format works, but it needs to be one of the good examples and you shouldn't be a robot about it, because it's just not necessary, if it's truly a good example then it should speak for itself.
I also really hate the "Made x, resulting in a y% improvement in <metric>, <subjective phrase ending in -ing such as "streamlining the user experience"> we get it, you wanted it to sound more sophisticated. But it should be obvious from your "Made x" part what the benefit is, if you need to spell it out at the end then that's a good indication that your bullet point doesn't have the oomph that you think it does
I have an excellent resume and experience at every level of tech (including director/CIO) and I'm still having trouble getting a codemonkey job even if I trim 70% off my salary. 17 of 50 project management roles have been revoked because they're not in the market for PMs anymore either.
What the fuck is this dumb ass job market?
>all the women with honours in my class got jobs like a week after graduation
>a month down the line and not a single one of the male honours got a job
interesting.
jarvis, for my next application, decline to answer any of the voluntary equity based hiring questions.
> Tell parents I got made redundant
> They send me outdated advice about finding a job that wouldnโt work in a million years anymore
> Nod along because I know their heart is in the right place and they are just trying to be helpful
I love you mom and dad.
>Do poorly on interview >Recruiter calls me (I miss it) and leaves a voicemail >"The interviewer said you don't have enough experience for [level], but says you have a good engineering mindset and wants you as a [one level lower], do you want to interview for that?" >Didn't even know what level I was interviewing for in the first place desu, will take a fucking internship at this point though lmao this market sucks ass >Call her back, she doesn't answer, leave a voicemail >"Yeah, uhh, that level sounds good to me" >Two days later still haven't heard back FUCK
>>105634996Quantitative metrics make your resume make sense to people who weren't there to know what you're talking about.
>Improved SIEM filters uhhhhhh
>Completely reworked SIEM filters, resulting in a 99% reduction of false positives whoooooaaaaaa man, that's a lot, you must be all smart and shit
>Diligently fixed computers uhhhhhhh
>Reduced average trouble ticket resolution time from 3 weeks to 2 days whooooooaaaaa man, that's a huge reduction, you must have a good work ethic and shit
bros, I need help. I quit my non IT job few months ago thinking I could crack a job in linux. So I tried to learn linux at job level. Got the RHCSA cert all that. I thought it would be enough to get a job but the recruiters wants me to have cloud skill as well. I'm willing to learn cloud. But, is there any way to learn AWS or Azure without giving my debit card info to these evil corps? They all require Debit/Credit card to setup the learning environment.
>>105637702Staking your entire future on not putting some numbers into a box is certainly a choice.
>>105637702Go buy one of those reloadable visas cards at walmart or whatever with cash. Pretty sure those cards still need your address and all that, I could be wrong, so if you're trying to avoid that too then good luck, Chuck.
>>105637236>decline to answer any of the voluntary equity based hiring questionsThat's an automatic no-hire
>>105637702Sign up for privacy.com or something similar. You give them your debit card or a bank account as a funding source and they let you generate virtual credit cards with arbitrary limits on them. Make a $1 limited card and use that for your cloud provider.
Also certs are worthless and you're wasting your time.
>>105632077alcohol, unless they do a ban like last time
I'm unironically thinking of switching to a trade. My only issue with it (aside from obviously starting from scratch) would be the extremely low pay for 3-4 years before hitting slightly above average pay depending on the industry.
>>105631468 (OP)i'm finally getting interviews, i had only rejections or no replies since april, but now i'm in the middle of interviewing with 4 different companies. i felt hopeless, desperate, and also angry at myself for being so useless. i don't know how this works but i'll keep applying while interviewing. is this some kind of hiring season?
What are those AIs that people on social media use to answer during the interviews? Is there any free?
So are we in a fucking recession or not

Current situation is that I'm an unpaid intern somewhere, which is my only internship as a rising senior, and I'm not sure how well it'll count.
My parents are generously paying for my college tuition in full.
Dumb question: should I get a last-minute minor to have rationale to extend my graduation by 1 semester and have 1 more internship cycle? Since it's not looking like I'm pulling fall co-ops/internships any more easily than I've been pulling summer ones.
And if I do, how can I convincingly lie to my dumbass Asian parents about getting a co-op so they'll be willing to pay for shit or whatever? Like maybe I could just drive to school but claim that I'm driving to my office, etc.

similarly, when they ask for your sexuality (this is really invasive imo but some companies ask), just put bi, it's not like they can prove it
i know a guy who got an interview with a fairly big company after he changed his name on his resume to a female one lol. obviously he didn't get the job though
what resources should I review for a c# mid level interview at a mid sized startup? I really don't want to fumble this. I looked at linkedin and it appears everyone on the team is a white man

I work for a Belgian company called SDworx. I work for their Poland office as an IT support "engineer" with a Hay level 13. Poland, Spain, and Mauritius are considered the โtech hubsโ, basically where they outsource most of the tech work like dev, IT support, etc. The main office is in Belgium obviously.
In the latest CEO podcast, they announced a new tech hub is going to open in India. Honestly, Iโm surprised it didnโt happen sooner, but itโs still a bit concerning. Recently, a few of my colleagues in Mauritius (not in IT, but in the infosec dept) were laid off. Still not 100% clear why, but it seems like theyโre going through some kind of cost-cutting phase. Another thing, we used to get HP laptops, but now all the new ones are Dell 5520s, and theyโve been pretty terrible. Lots of issues. Just feels like corners are being cut.
Should I actually be worried, or is there nothing to stress about yet?
Got rejected yet again for a role at Meta. I am considering suicide somewhat seriously.

I'm starting at a new university this fall to finish my bachelor's after getting an associate's in programming and also to get some internships. It's one of the best public universities for CS in my state and is in an area with a lot of tech jobs but I'm not optimistic about the job market at all.
This is going to be a waste of time and money, right? I should either switch degrees or just find a job in blue collar or retail/foodservice. I don't know which degrees I should switch too though, I'm autistic as fuck and there's no way I would get along with anyone in a normie degree field like marketing or finance.
>>105642607CS is oversaturated to hell, physics, chemistry, biology as degrees are largely useless unless you go into research. engineering is also oversaturated, but at least you can get security clearance government work.

I don't know if it's time to learn java. It's the most loved language where I live (not India btw).
The problem is that I've worked as a freelancer all my life and HR departments hate me for this.
So, I don't know if it's worth trying to learn another tech or just renewing my business and even steering away from programming.
I don't even have money to invest sadly.
>>105643612Java shouldn't be too hard to learn if you have experience with any other OOP language like C++ or C#

I kind of like programming but even with that I need to force myself to do it, why does it seem like everyone else just does things automatically, learns and develops skills like it's second nature?
1. I guess I never really learned "proper" programming. It worked out fine at my last job because I was mostly just a code monkey, but what should I know if I'm looking for a better job? I did use pseudocode (and occasionally a whiteboard for database/ER diagrams or UI planning) at my last job, but I feel like I'm missing a good bit of info. I've never done anything to do with unit testing, and I don't know that I even did speccing properly. What sort of course should I study to learn that?
2. Is agile still the most prevalent development methodology? We were supposed to use that at my last job, but they were lazy about it. Should I study it?
3. I never really learned how to use an IDE's debugger; I would just print stuff to console (a lot of the time I've just used a text editor anyway). Should I learn that?

They started caring more once I graduated and got a real job and made a lot of money, so we got closer for a little while. But then one day my dad got too drunk and told me that he kind of avoided me when I was a kid because I was so boring. I guess I was right all along, so now I have kind of an arms-length relationship with them. We talk on the phone for holidays and occasioanlly, but I haven't seen them in years.

I haven't been to /g since the AI revolution began, but in the last couple of months I created a startup and I'm finally making bank. I made over $10k this month and I wanted to check in to see how everyone else is doing. It feels like we're at the beginning of something beautiful. No longer do you need to work for someone else. If you have a good idea and can market it, the AI agents (plural) literally solve everything for you. Claude costs me $100 a month but has made me thousands in return.

My last (and first full time) job was working for this boomer on his pet project. He had this rube goldberg-esque library he had written over the years - data classes derived from data classes, multiple methods that did very similar things. just overengineered to hell. I was tasked with making some apps on top of it. It was pretty fun figuring out his code and he was very helpful but I didn't learn any actual skills. By the end he got too busy and it was just me working on it but I wasn't making much progress and got laid off. I still barely know how to code, atleast in the sense that might be required for regular jobs. I feel like I might never get hired again.

>SLAV INTERVIEWERsimilar to a nigger interviewer, but there will always be a pang of superiority within him, whether it is because he's a rich oligarch wannabe or someone who escaped an ex-soviet hell and overly proud of it. either way, he thinks he's better than you and will not be afraid to show it. will probably crush your hand during the greeting handshake.

>>105641527my company started contract hiring indians to "support" our existing team (we somehow had trouble hiring when there's a fuck ton of people looking for work)
eventually after training these people half our team was laid off due to "lack of work" and they're looking to hire more jeets to backfill
i would say if your company starts hiring indians it definitely won't stop even if the quality is trash as long as they get paid pennies on the dollar it's worth it to the company's bottom line
start looking for new work
>>105681396I gave up today, I managed to save enough money to stay comfortable for some time. I am going to work with my uncle in the laundry business, I like programming but I realised I can't do it for a living anymore after fifteen years in this field.

For reference, on our local indeed (seek.com.au) there are currently 357 "software developer" jobs (in the IT category) in a 50km radius and they list jobs for up to 30 days. From what I've seen there's an average of about 400 applicants per job too.
I'm not liking my odds.
>>105668294got scheduled for a 30 min screening interview after passing the technical assessment
we are so back
>>105682327what did they ask in the assessment?
>>105682016It's definitely different based on country, but everyone is feeling the difficulties in any case.
>>105682515it wasn't a technical assessment in the traditional developer sense, it was a bunch of typical interview questions
one asked about the differences between b2b and b2c products, another asked about how I would approach designing software for non-technical users
there was also a whiteboard exercise where i was asked to provide feedback on an example design, with the design having a lot of obvious mistakes
>>105682051I don't know where you are but we have that over here too and it's totally bogus. As usual it's a correlation-causation issue. Plus you have no guarantee it will still be in demand in 2 years when you're ready to get into an apprenticeship.
In any case typically the 'in demand' jobs don't pay enough to keep a roof over your head even after years of experience and actually have enough supply that they are gated by those currently in the profession

>>105631468 (OP)>got fired from my shitty pharmacy tech job a month ago>got put on academic suspension after last fall and can't take classes at the same university until next springI've been relying on GPT for emotional support and to help me stay motivated to find work. Are there any entry-level jobs for incompetent retards like myself these days? I have no fucking idea what people who work in software even do, and from what I hear the difference between the actual work and the shit we are learning in school is like day and night. Pharmacy techs don't get paid shit, so it's not like I'm currently looking to make a lot of money. Just need a more hands-on way to be proactive.
>>105683101Based
Let's make a /utwg/ band
Except it should clearly be metal or punk or something, more on-topic I think
>>105683201pharmacy techs get paid more than 99% of devs
It's also 100x bigger brained even on the butt of all tech jokes: webshit.
Try becoming a trashman. Pays well, easy job, no brain needed.
>>105683228>pharmacy techs get paid more than 99% of devsNo anon, they don't.
>>105683228You're a moron, pharmacy techs get paid peanuts and they're basically retail workers who studied for 2 years
Get a grip
>>105683245Yes, retard, they do
>>105683251Pharm techs routinely make over 50/hour base without certification, more with. Even more as travel techs. There usually also is a monthly ot quarterly performance bonus scheme that can be quite hefty depending on conpany.
The average tech worker makes $38.46 an hour, required a 4 years degree and corresponding debt, works 10+ hours salaried (so that 38 an hour becomes 30.7), and has no bonus.
>>105683258You're telling me that 99% of people working in software are making less than ~$40k USD annually? Somehow, I don't think that's true.
>>105683374>$50 an hourLOL WHAT
I think you mean *pharmacist*, anon. Not pharmacy tech. If I was making $50 an hour as a tech my life wouldn't be the fucked up mess that it is currently.
>>105683129Sure I'll be lil' income
You can be MC gapped
>>105683394No, I pharmacists make a lot more than that and have further upward mobility. I'm also not talking abput bumfuck nowwhere wages at 0 years of exp. That would be more like 20/hour. To compare to a fresh tech grad in a major non-bay metro, you must assume 4 years and no certification, or 4 years and cerrification to compare to a tech worker with a cert, in a corresponding non-bay metro. Just like tech workers can be stuck at 30-50k lifetime cap if they decide to work in hospitals and you would never use that figure to talk about tech wages, pharmacist tech wages in hospitals are comparable (in terms of positipn) to rech workers working in tech companies. Orherwise costco and walmart for instance is comparable to tech workers working in larger non-tech companies (mostly meaning crap pay). Othee confounsing factors must also be handled in similar ways. For example the workload of tech workers despite being salaried vs pharmacy techs which nevertheless are hourly.
