I have an old budget HP laptop from 2011 that was a hand-me-down from a relative. It's worn down and barely works now. I haven't used it in a long time, don't even know if it will turn on anymore.

Replaced it with an iPad a couple years ago.

Asus laptops have been the most consistently shit to run linux on in my experience, they basically only support windows and they go out of their way to exclude functionality from being able to be used in other OSs, and MSI have consistently had broken hinges and chassis in the two I've had, if you buy some laptop make sure the chassis is made out of aluminum or some other metal, at least if the hinge is glued and not carved into the metal, you'd be able to glue it again instead of trashing the whole assembly.

They have great specs, linux support and speakers, but their chassis have been consistently made out of cheapo plastics that break in a year or two, yeah, they have great customer support here and they repair everything without asking, but it's honestly mindboggling they'd rather spend thousands per computer repairing it than making computers that will last at least 4 or 5 years of regular use.
The fact that I quite literally bought a 2k€ laptop entirely made out of aluminum, and the screen hinges had been made out of cheapo plastic that broke in two years should tell you everything you'd need to know.

I guess that would be a place to start, but I'd imagine anything that runs an AMD CPU and GPU would run perfectly. Might have issues with Bluetooth or WiFi depending on what they use, but using Arch Linux should fix that.

Don't buy anything new then if your current laptop satisfies your needs.

The framework I currently own is fine I guess, my only complaints are about speakers being mid and firmware updates rolling out very slowly. I use this laptop almost always plugged in so I don't care that much about battery life.

Their battery life is respectable, but Windows on Arm is terrible because Microsoft is terrible as usual. They indicated they would skip a generation and simply make mobile phone chips, but that's about a year away from a new chip. Those chips are also rather old, and they only made newer ones that are in the very affordable section aka weak.

I have a base MBP M1 8/256 but it's not fit for work. Our code is shit and really brings it to its knees. I use it for personal projects just fine.

Using my upgraded T480 for work, but even that is having issues. Currently saving up for a M4, probably a MBP M4 16/512.

The macbook air with 24gb should do the job if you are not windows literate / linux-curious, AND you plan on only using game engines. You can use external nvme drives to expand the storage but it's not very portable.
If you want to spend top dollar for something very MID but power efficient and new, I would suggest the AMD AI max for like $2000+, they only offer the 395 ATM which is overpowered (and overpriced), but I would personally wait for when the 385 laptop comes out for a $500~ discount (only the framework minipc for $1000~ has it as far as I know).
However... a 4060 shit-top is like $800 and matches the AMD AI max. It's shit because the keyboard / trackpad / hinge / single nvme slot / gamer RGB lights, but it should have a 144hz display and ok specs, and you could just plug it into a $700-800 1440p OLED (QD-OLED has a purple tint in a bright room unless you spend extra for a monitor that tries to fix the purple tint?, WOLED is maybe better and I think there is going to be a $500 WOLED monitor coming out in the future).
The shit-tops really depend on whatever is on sale / stock at the moment, I probably would want to walk into a bestbuy and see the laptop in person (if they still do that).

Maybe Windows on Arm with a Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite (X1E-80-100), but no model of that CPU has a 100-watt battery like the MacBook 16-inch; instead, they are all about 70.

Also, it's decent for 3D obv. not 5090 levels but check out YouTube benchmarks, regardless you can't do 3D rendering on a laptop because of the excessive load and the inability of every laptop to cool down you will just thermal throttle everything. Buy external gpu dock with whatever laptop supports it.

Yeah. Tuxedo is Linux/FOSS-first manufacturer. That's why I got it. My employer wanted me to get something that will have good Linux compatibility and so I suggested them. It had pretty good price too. The only downsides is how loud it is and short battery life span. But both are not issues for me since I just wanted a portable, powerful machine to use at home and sometimes at office.
