Windows 10 support is coming to an end in 4 months.

What distros should we suggest to people migrating over. Mint is the most popular ever suggested to newbs, but what about alternatives.

you can literally go to Windows general help thread and get LTSC for free, why would anyone need to migrate?

I cant use mint or linux because the desktop it's absolute garbage. There's no good linux desktop environment comparable to windows.

The file picker is garbage on mint. Nemo is garbage. It doesnt even generate proper thumbnails when you use the filepicker. Some are the default icon and there's no grid or icon view and MTP file transfer thumbnails are completely broken.

You know for someone who has to constantly transfer files from my phone often over a gigabyte uses MTP often its garbage when you cant see which photos you're picking. Something that has been on windows forever.

Honestly if mint fixed the garbage file picker and photo thumbnail support I could tolerate everything else.
That's why people dont switch to linux. It's the bad software support, broken desktops, broken updates and packages and basic features that dont work on linux.

the longer you stay on an unsupported OS, the more security vulnerabilities will pile up and the less compatible software you'll find.
look at windows 7 these days, there's still a few autists running it, and they need workarounds for literally every modern application.

and yet it is. the thing about cli apps is that they are usually very small and have little dependencies, and that's when they're not glorified scripts, so their distribution isn't nearly as problematic.
so yeah, flatpaks for them would be nice, and i'm sure it'll happen eventually, but it's not necessary by any account.

just tell them to stay on 10. You can easily pirate ESU updates (or if you are moraltroon, pay for them) if they care. Most essential software will support 10 for years to come. If they have at least a decent 2nd/3rd gen HW, you can show them how to install 11 on it just fine with rufus. If you recommend troonix to them, it will most likely make their life very miserable. If they absolutely insist on switching to troonix, just recommend Mint.

All good starter distros. With endevor being the least friendly imo.

Debian can be a problem for newbs with newer hardware given the old kernel
Ubuntu I would agree, but snaps. Still it's probably not that big a deal and by the time they start to understand them and Linux more they'll know how to switch to another distro that doesn't force that or they'll purge snapd.
Fedora is what I use, it's simple and generally user friendly but not to set it up. For instance you need to add the rpmfusion non free repo to install non free codecs like ffmpeg. That's gotta be googled, and for this reason I'd recommend Ubuntu over it.
The other distros you suggested I don't know.
