4o is one of the few models, local or API, that surpasses chroma in prompt comprehension, text, and complexity, and it definitely does so by a mile. however, in artistic terms, 4o is also one of the most soulless models out there and everything it produces looks like shit. This is due to guardrails, censorship, and slop tuning rather than technical limitations.

that's the state of affairs with most API models. Midjourney is still king of styles for non-anime, and novelAI is the king for anime prompt comprehension but has very tough competition from illustrious and noob. chroma is without a doubt one of the best all-rounders already and is uncensored (NSFW and politically) but is a WIP.

try my prompt on your favorite model and see what you get:
>Collage art with paper cutouts from various sources such as magazines and medieval illustrations, a single composition.
>At the top, God with a big white beard looks down from an opening in the sunny clouds above the garden. God talks mischeviously and has a large speech bubble with the text "1girl, 1boy, fruit, serpent".

This prompt is pushing the limits of what current chroma can handle, and it breaks down in various areas. I predict you will get better consistency and comprehension on 4o and maybe Sora and HiDream but losing style and/or nudity. I'd be interested to see how MJ can handle it.

I hope it gets released. Personally I'm tired of "base models" that lack aesthetic and just sit there for years waiting for finetunes that never come. I just want a local model that looks good without having to cope with mandatory style loras. Tired of the the plastic skin, the sameface, the removal of art from datasets, the lack of output variation. I miss the early phase of AI art when it was about mixing painters and aesthetics around to achieve cool results, rather than moving nodes around to try and fix the artificial skin.

I miss that too. The thing is, no one (from the west at least) is willing to risk being sued by artists, so the best you'll get in that regard are anime models like illustrious (mostly because japanese artists don't seem to care as much)

Yes, but Chroma ain't done training so the LoRA will work less and less as epochs progress. Doesn't take long to retrain it though, so meh, up to you.

I remember anons saying some of their schnell LoRA's worked okayish, but that was awhile ago. The more the model trains, the more it deviates from schnell.
I never tried a schnell LorA myself. I can guarantee that you'll get superior results by training on Chroma itself regardless.

I run local on Forge UI using a 2070 Super with 8GB of VRAM. Lately, I've been thinking about learning how to use Controlnet for finetuning my outputs.

I guess my first question is: can I run something like that simultaneously while genning? I feel like 8 GB is pretty low-end when it comes to VRAM. Second, what resources do you recommend for someone new to Controlnet?

Rifle lets you add 3 extra seconds without looping, that's it. Take latent from WanImageToVideo, plug it into Rifle. Have Rifle's model input and output anywhere between the other model nodes (ie, I have TorchCompileModelWanVideoV2 connecting to it, then Rifle connects to WanVideoNAG). Max frames are 129, but I set it to 121, because 121 @ 24 frames = 81 frames / 5 seconds.

Depth and canny controlnets are small, only openpose is really big, but v1 doesn't work on anime anyway and V2 only sometimes.

For SDXL models, controlnet should be fine at 8GB. For SDXL modesl, controlnet-union-sdxl-1.0-promax is a good all-in-one. Most of the controlnets options in it work with noob and ill, except for pose. For that, you'll want illustrious_openpose.
For tile upscales, you can use union, or :

For IPadapter stuff on noob, use

Resource wise for learning, YT videos, I guess. They're not hard to learn how to use. There's a lot of options, but you'll mostly use tile (for upscales), depth and canny, pose, ipadapter.

Yes but on Windows, actual proper ROCm support is starting to come out but no stable release has gotten out yet so there are nightly packages. You basically follow the Linux instructions but subsitute and install Pytorch manually. DirectML is slow so you may want to try that even if it is not user friendly.

So I'm trying to get Wan img2vid working, and I'm kind of at a snag (following this guide: https://rentry.org/wan21kjguide ).
Comfy loads, everything looks to be in order with the setup, but when I hit run, it starts doing shit, then stops at "0/4" steps and doesn't do anything. It's using my resources and the GPU is definitely chugging doing "something", but I'm not getting any feedback that anything is happening.
I did get a warning for previews

I've got a 4070ti with 12gb of VRAM. Framepack works, but I'm not really sure if Wan is. It takes about 6-10mins for 8s of animation, and I was told Wan was comparable in speed, but it's been a good bit longer than 10 mins and nothing has been shit out yet... I think.

Either way, check your resource monitor or performance in task manager to see exactly how much VRAM it's using during generation. If it's 11.5GB or slightly more, you're using too much VRAM and that's why it's not generating.

I've been meaning to add a graph on there with the exact offloading numbers you'd need per GPU VRAM bracket, but it'd be a lot of work. I'd have to download all the quants and test them one by one with various settings. Then you'd tell at a glance what quant to get and how much you need to offload it by.

Yeah. The higher it goes, the more you offload and the slower your s/it, or the rate in which each step is completed. So the slower your gens. If you set it too high, it offloads 100% to CPU. That'd take weeks/years to generate.
So you want to find the optimal number that leaves some overhead (around 1GB), keeping in mind that as you adjust resolution, the usage goes up or down with the res.

Visual quality and prompt adherence and general coherence go down with quantization. For diffusion models, the difference between FP16/BF16 and Q8 is almost lossless, but gets progressively worse the lower you crunch it with quantization.

For I2V, it's always better to use a res as close to 480p or 720p (if using 720p) as possible, given it was trained on those two resolutions only. Seems to work just fine at lower resolutions/box res though, beyond some visual quality loss.
