I feel mpv devs have much better computers than my old thinkpad. It gets more and more laggy as each year goes by.

for some reason mpv performs a lot better on my old thinkpad, vlc can't handle 1080p x265 and mpv werks just fine

I always used MPC-HC, worked great, but nowadays I get more and more file formats that I can't play properly, because of graphics glitches, can't fast forward because of lags, so on. When I put the same file to VLC it works flawlessly, however it has it's own shit. Tried MPV a few years back, but it feels like a software for autists.

Vlc because you can use it for playing music playlists and general music enjoyment, much unlike mpv, which doesn't support such features.
