Alright, so img2vid gen has been going without a hitch and I'm having loads of fun.
Genning the vid itself is fast enough, but the process of loading the models and stuff is where most of the time is spent (like several minutes compared to the 1-2 to generate). Is there a way to speed that up or am I just stuck with it? Do I just have to find the sweet spot with the virtual vram value?

So I've figured out my issue... not how to fix it though.
First gens are fast, perfectly acceptable, but if I gen again after, it slows to a crawl like shit's not being unloaded or something.
After a gen it says the cache is cleared, but RAM usage stays high but VRAM goes down. So I think for some reason, after I gen a second video, RAM isn't being cleared properly and it's trying to load up everything AGAIN on top of what's there instead of re-using it.
That's the theory anyway. Not really sure what to do about it...

Use a Purge VRAM node, there's one that you slot between the the second last and last node in your workflow and it'll clear your VRAM every run.
Downside is it has to reload the model, but it's fast if you're on an SSD.
What pytorch are you on btw? 2.8.0dev? Also try switching to 2.7.0 stable if you're not on a 50XX GPU. 2.8.0dev seems to have issues with earlier gen GPU's, especially 3090's.

Depends on the parameters. It's probably got a lot. 30B-50B would be a good bet. Outputs at 24 fps, max of 10 seconds. 16-bit, you're looking at 120-180GB for a 30B, 220-300 for a 50B. Multiply that if it's bigger, but I doubt it is

Try updating your chroma ratios with the calibration node. If the image changes drastically between magcache enabled and disabled, then the ratios are misaligned with your settings. It should be 5-10% worse for 50% gen time with default settings

Seems like it significantly amplifies negative prompt, is compatible with NegPiP/AttentionCouple and can be stopped early without losing much quality.

If I were them I would release in two sizes, 14b again and another in the 30b range, both with dynamic resolution (with 720p or 1080p as the maximum res) and both able to to T2V and I2V within the same model, trained on a better captioned video dataset with 8 seconds (not 5) as the default, and able to receive audio inputs for lip syncing or aid the events of the video (like veo 3 and multitalk)
They can put the 30b model behind API for all I care (most people would not be able to run it local anyway) but it would be amazing to get an open weights version with those features

what changed in i2v workflow provided in the wan rentry between april and now? shit pretty much just freezes now with the same settings I used previously
mind you the old workflow from around april still works as normal with expected speeds (10-20 s/it)

kinda wild a t2v lora works so well for i2v. we went from 10+ min wan gens to like 1-2 min.

720 q8 wan on 3090 takes about 30-35 minutes for the 25 steps and teacache 0.19 which were in the original workflow and which is enough for great quality, not 50 minutes

And in my experience 4 steps for 5-6 minutes with those optimizations are just not enough for most things, you basically need like 8-12 steps, and so ~15-16 minutes, and you're still not gonna get the great quality of wan, making it not really worth unless you have a really trash gpu with which you cant run the full wan

At the very least I think there should be comparisons done to showcase to people the difference between these things since even just having higher than 0.19 teacache with everything else maxxed 720p q8 you still dont get the same full quality and get noticable degradation, let alone with any other optimization that degrades the quality by a lot or using a 480p version of the model or even quanting the 480p one.
