Just got around to measuring my Hype 2 and 4, and man is the channel matching disappointing, not for the price, just in general.
I don't know how KZ manages to have near perfect channel with their cheapest models, while companies like Thieaudio who most likely have much higher margins cannot spare the effort to improve their QC.

Speaking of EPZ, I think they cooked here. Considering it's filterless it might be the last IEM you'll ever need.

I realize I haven't reviewed either of the Hype, but I'm not keen on doing so because while I think they are mediocre, they aren't bad in any way. It's just that there's little reason for me to grab these over say the Q1 Pro or Bunny which are just as great with EQ.
I don't know, I might post some compression measurements and insertion depth animations and be done with that.

Everywhere else it's the opposite, you automatically assume the other is an imbecile with no depth.

Hard to drive thing is mostly about laptops, phones etc and some other special cases.
>>105643115The cable is decent but it curls back up kinda easily when in use which is disappointing.
I didn't even bother with the gimmick because from everything I heard about it, it just decreases the bass and I'm already itching for more bass on the default sound.
Shell is comfortable like Bunny. I didn't really do any A/B testing to compare the two though to see their similarities and differences.

you guys don't look at the FR of your music?
so i got the KZ ZS10 Pro 2 and seem less punchy than CCA CRA, what gives?
Moondrop block came in, I've been playing around with them for a couple of days so here's a quick review for whoever might be interested.
They're $20 and I like them quite a bit, they're my first tws Bluetooth earbuds or whatever people call them now so I can't really compare with other models.
They sound nice for buds you'd wear when fucking around in the garden, wrenching on your car, cooking or whatever. They get shat on by my more expensive gear that's more focused on critical listening but the blocks really aren't made for this kind of thing. Somehow they do have some bass, it really doesn't go that low but it's there, vocals and most instruments come out nice but they lack a bit in the high highs, then again they're just little speakers that hang in your ears so I'm pleasantly surprised.
Fit is a bit weird, maybe I'm just not used to non-iems, you need to get the angle just right or sound quality suffers, it's easy enough to do but you can't just shove them in your ears. They feel a bit unstable in your ears but I couldn't get them to fall off no matter what I did.
Touch controls are ok, they work. Latency is pretty low and good enough for videos and movies, I haven't tried gaming with them.
I'm torn on the case, it's super small and looks good, it not having a lid is a non-issue for me, but it's made of the shittiest, softest plastic known to man. They haven't left my desk and the case already got some phat scratches, I'm convinced you could scratch it simply by glaring at it hard enough.
All in all I love them, I'll still try the Huawei freebuds se 2 or 3 in the near future just to see what they're like since they seem to be the only other decent budget option for non-iem tws earbuds.

At the advice of /pcbg/ I'm asking here, basically just copypasting the post.
I need some help lads. I just got my MAG321UP. I need a pair of cheap PC speakers that don't look like garbage. I don't need any audiophile gear cheap $20 or whatever set of speakers will do just fine. pretty much something that I can just power through the USB (either the one on the monitor or the one on the PC) and just plug into the monitor's audio jack because I also have a console hooked up to it. I'll pretty much mostly use it to listen to random youtube shit so as long as they don't rattle it's fine.
I was looking at something like picrel but I unironically noped just because I can't put it directly under the screen on the account of base of the monitor not being flat.

I went back to single flange tips for the last couple weeks to see if I've been wrong, especially since triples do make the sound warmer (which I don't really like), and if I need to eq the lower frequencies, I might as well just use single flange and eq the high frequencies instead. Turns out, triple flange is still better, because in addition to fix ear canal resonances, it also removes these dips around 9 kHz (very noticable on Truthear Gate), which are hard to eq back in.
I used sine sweeps and the flac version of this track to check: https://youtu.be/J9yy81yLuOE. This is a bright mix, and on your shouty single flange pos, the hi-hat and synths will sound more prominent than the voice. On my triple flange pos, the voice is the center of attention, as it should be. (The voice actress of Setsuna has such a cute voice.)
I use a bit of eq to address the added warmth, by using a lowshelf at 1 kHz, -2 dB, but this is probably depending on taste, I do like a bright-ish neutral sound. Treble is just perfect, no need to eq.

>>105648600>Compressed tracks sound worse at every volume.Yes, but at low volume it won't damage your hearing and that's all this is about. For context, they blasted the guinea pigs with 102 dBA average for 4 hours (because apparently that's the safety limit for concert halls in France).
And again, their "uncompressed" baseline is already compressed (DR4 according to that database), thus I suspect their "overcompressed" version is far more aggressively compressed than even the worst shit you might encounter in the wild.
>>105642177 (OP)Best (under $100) IEMs for watching movies? Surely we've beaten home cinema with their shit speakers by now?

>>105650879Which one triggered you? If this is over the zero reds, the crossover is complete garbage, imaging in games is atrocious, voices are weird and it feels like chunks of audio are missing.
>>105650943And also I tried eq'ing up the treble of the wankers to match my preference, its just bad

Using warm pos is emulating the hearing of a 80 year old, who would want that?
Dont worry guys I just eq'd wankers to have 20db treble boost, they still sound worse than wyverns even if I cut off past 10khz.

>>105651329>he can't read graphs Lmao
>>105651313>IEMs don't do mixingwhat does this mean? recording engineer mixes audio on reference speakers best they can. good speakers more accurately reproduce the engineer's efforts. how hard is that to understand?
>>105651338>>105651340NEET samefagging is all I see.
>>105651313When the sound is muffled then I would introduce a lowshelf, and not adjusting high frequencies. In general I would always use EQ with negative gain, as you don't need any pre-gain then. But when the sound is too bright, then I would suspect it's an ear canal resonance, so I'd try adjusting ~8 kHz instead of 5 kHz.
>>105651350>what does this mean? That whatever the engineer did is final. IEMs won't change it. IEMs can only affect the tonality. There's nothing inside IEMs that can change anything else. So if you hear "speed", "resolution" or whatever - that's actually just tonality. Learn how to listen.
>>105651365Ear canal resonance is almost never at 8kHz.
>>105651366>That whatever the engineer did is final.partly true. the intent of a good mix is for instruments to be easily discerned from one another, while being placed intently on the FR spectrum. a cleanly mixed kick drum won't interfere with a bongo when placed in the mix correctly. you get your stereo imaging when the engineer places a sound in the mix left or right. you get a sense of soundstage when an instrument has lower or higher gain than the next instrument. it depends on the track and who engineered the audio. every. thing. is. placed. in. the. mix. with. intent.
good speakers reproduce this effort accurately. iems can do this too. a good mix is a good mix and not every speaker can replay this well.
I'm not making an argument for iems changing anything. I'm making the argument that a good mix will be noticed with good gear. that's literally it
>>105651427And why in the absolute fuck would we talk about this when the best track for testing IEMs is pink noise.
>>105651105I donโt know wtf youโre talking about but I know one thing based off this comment: You EQโd entirely wrong
>>105651376What's the point? It's always closer to 8 kHz than to 5 kHz.
>>105651483Insertion depth affects the level of 5k and then there are moving peaks. You're almost always better EQing 7kHz instead of 8 for the first peak, but with shallow insertion it can be even lower, I had it at 6.4k with vk4, at 6.7 with most other IEMs. The second peak is somewhere around 11kHz.
>>105651450>best track for testing IEMs is pink noisebest track for testing is any audio you already understand as having any level of mixing and can compare with other tracks.
>>105651512This is true. For me the resonance peak is usually around 6.5khz-7khz. Luckily the spike in actuality is much smoother than a coupler shows.
>>105651512Sometimes there's also a 15kHz peak that instills the sound of cheapness into the IEM, like the driver is crackling when playing music.
>>105650943You are not exactly making your case better... Chunks of audio are missing? That's insane shit to say unless your unit is faulty
>>105651512>Insertion depth affects the level of 5k5k is barely affected by insertion depth, see picrel. Also, the treble peaks of the different insertion depths here range from 6.5 to 10 kHz, so I'd still recommend EQing ~8 kHz instead of 5.
>>105645874Never said I was anything else other than a saint.
>>105651620>see picrelSome retard normalized it by 4kHz. You can clearly see 200-3000Hz stay the same, everything else changes.
>oratoryWell that explains it.
>>105651620Can we get a webplotdigitizer-zo in the chat to make this shit actually readable.
>>105651643not normalized anywhere wtf are you talking about
the truth is that the resonance can be anywhere from 5 to 10 khz depending on ear canal length which also changes with ethnicity
why are you retards still arguing about this, it does not matter in the slightest, just use music and eq like a normal person with a fully developed front lobe jfc
>>105651643You have never tried deep-insertion iems, did you? 200 Hz does definitely not stay the same.
>>105651620Shallowest insert 5k is about the same as 3k
Deepest insert 5k is -4dB compared to 3k
I'd say that's a pretty big difference
>>105651643I don't think it's normalized at all so it shows the slight gain at lower frequencies you get with deeper insertion

>>105651711A graph not made by a reddit retard, a real Christmas miracle.
>>105651708That's literally what I was talking about? By lower frequencies I meant everything below treble.
>>105651726If you meant to say 90% of the sound gets boosted then congrats, that was fucking useless.
>hundreds of pictures posted
>still no evidence that treble adjustments should be made at 5 kHz rather than 8 kHz (not for yourself, but as advice for others)
>>105651747>should be made at 5 kHz rather than 8 kHzNobody said that. You should adjust 5kHz and 7kHz at the same time. Adjusting 8kHz just digs a deeper trench into the 9kHz dip most 1DD IEMs have.
>>105651672On that particular graph. With real IEMs it's up to debate whether there's something actually going on or you just have a better seal.
>>105651760>Nobody said that.already memory-holed

Mid IQ: 7kHz dip
High IQ: +/-7kHz dip by ear and 5kHz dip/boost by ear.

As a many iem haver, I must proclaim that techs exist, are independent of FR, neutral pos is muffled, and soundstage is the most important aspect of an iem.
>>105653846well i disagree
Sound stage doesn't matter
>>105653846FR fully describes IEM. Nothing is independent of FR

>>105653993The FR at your eardrum, bro. Do you not have ears?
>>105653993You probably should educate yourself before trying to discuss things you don't understand.
>>105654009>>105654031you can't even measure FR at your eardrum let alone find correlations
>>105653788there are pros and cons like anything.
>some prosdecent shell size to fit most people
unorthodox tuning - if you dislike "vocal shout," it may be for you
>some conslacks lip on nozzle, ear tips will be prone to slip off
unorthodox tuning - if you like "clear vocals," this is not an ideal choice
simply calling them relaxing isn't accurate. relative to the rest of the frequency range, the lower treble is elevated, and the bass is dominant. it really depends on your ears and preferences, but this kind of tuning is often associated with "under water," kind of sound which can be off-putting and unnatural to some people.
if i were you i'd gamble on the new flavor of the month kefine quatio for quality bass around that price. expect stock to be on amazon in a few weeks
>>105654043Sure you can. Just complete the band identification training in an app of your choice.
>>105654055that's very scientific. make a graph using that method now
>>105653964I can guarantee you, every single mixing session of every recording ever, in the history of audio has an FR chart been considered in the recording, mixing and mastering of any audio. ever.
>inb4 the fuck does music blah blah blah have to do with techs blah blahmotherfucker someone had to place all the sounds in the mix with their knobs and sliders. FR doesn't say a goddamn thing about a recording.
>why does this matterbecause your $5 piece of monkey shit pos is congested, with bad layering of instruments, shitty transient response and no holy tuning will ever fix that. with your logic, there should be a money target. every 10Hz has a value and any pos hitting it perfectly has that dollar amount added to its value. fuck you
