Am I the only one who cant notice Ray Tracing effects? And the performance cost rarely justifies using it at all in games, so whats the point?
It's noticeable but it's also pointless most of the time unless the game absolutely benefits from it (Cyberpunk)
>>105642771 (OP)You can see the difference in Resident Evil games
>>105642771 (OP)Game developers have gotten so good at faking realistic lighting that ray-tracing isn't much of an improvement. It's only when developers cheap out on the non-ray-traced version that it looks noticeably different.
If you want realism, gay tracing is way easier and more consistent to do than traditional lighting. Devs claim that they use it solely because it enhances the player experience, but this is the real reason.
It doesn't help that the GPU market is fucked beyond repair, which gives developers an excuse to assume every PC player has a 5080 minimum.
There are games where the raytraced effects are more subtle, but "raytracing" is not like some image clarity bullshit. It's sometimes like the difference between a reflection being there and not being there at all. It's in some cases stupidly tangible. Indiana Jones without raytracing looks completely off. There are games that are clearly designed with raytracing in mind and once you disable that shit it's fucked.
Whether it's worth using or not it's a different thing. Performance wise it's not good, of course.
>>105642771 (OP)I notice it, but it's really not worth it.

real ray tracing you wont notice. Fake ray tracing where they over saturate everything and increase contrast and sharpness you will notice.
>>105642803Raytracing/Path tracing is completely overkill and almost useless for stylized games like this.
Maybe the real rays was the fun you had along the way?
>>105642888Exactly. Obviously in some games it's noticable, especially with lots of shiny surfaces, but overall devs had decades to perfetly "fake" it. Especially games that only take place indoors almost don't need raytracing at all.
>>105642771 (OP)You would not see big different for a GI scene using voxel cone tracing and path tracing.
you dont need a fps meter to tell which is rt on or off. rt on is always half the fluidity.
