we are in fucking 2025, why don't we have a complete model of this thing yet? trying to brute force artificial intelligence with language, a mere byproduct of the brain, seems pure retardation, we should just try to recreate the brain

anon think of a visual novel with billions of branching paths and flags that can all intersect each other

no matter how powerful your computer is, it can't model that shit

human brain has over 100 trillion synaptic connections and is also analog rather than digital so good luck processing all that information

The ECC on a human brain is extremely dogshit and trying to replicate that is insanity in and of itself. Also if you play SOMA you'll realize there's an endless list of moral/ethical reasons why we would NOT want to be inside a robot.

It's not just about the computing power, our model for how neurons work is flawed and can't seem to replicate some of the things our brain can do. And artificial neural networks are a dumbed down version of that model so of course it doesn't come near to how the human brain actually works.

This is what the brainlets that push for LLMs don't understand.
>Human brain
intelligence -> language "I need something to communicate my thoughts, so I'll invent language"
>LLMs
language -> 'intelligence' "I need to train and average on hundreds of terabytes of language data to simulate thoughts"

Language-based AI is a dead end concept that is diverting money and attention away from actual AI research.

Then you clearly haven't played it. For example consider the fact there's a real possibility that you will never die no matter how insane you become. Have you ever considered what it might be like to LIVE against your will?

there's really no reason to believe in a continuous existence like that game presents

if you die in one body/brain it won't be you in a copy, it wont be like going to sleep and then waking up, it won't be you at all.

it's a stupid game

the brain is a tool, a means to an end
without purpose the brain is worthless, we have a pointless purpose that influences every decision we make, machines don't and it's probably for the best

There is neuromorphic architecture in developement though. LLMs are far easire to develop and monetize so capitalism is playing out.

The problem is it takes a whole group of researchers the better part of a year to figure out how a fly brain determines which way itโ€™s moving visually.

The whole thing assumes that we DO in fact find a way to replicate the human brain, not just crudely emulate it. That's what makes it so terrifying, that we humans will someday fit inside of a micro SD card, 128TB NVME micro SD probably.

That all the sky god worship amounted to jack shit because at the end of the day we were just a collection of data points being processed by a computer. No demons, no angels, just data being processed. We were never special.

but it's irrelevant whether or not the brain is replicated, it would still just be the equivalent of a clone, and that clone would not exist in the next iteration of the brain

i have no mouth and i must scream does that thing much more scarily, because it is regenerating a singular person who feels it all (iirc)

No you don't get it, it's the fact that IT CAN be replicated that really cranks up the existential dread because most of us currently think we're special beings, that something we don't understand separates us from electrons flowing in and out of semi-conductors and logic gates. Also it WILL be like going to sleep and waking up but ONLY if the original copy commits suicide, thus the mass suicides and exploding heads and all that jazz in the game. That's practically speaking the only way to ensure the continuity happens.

But yeah if a human say chickens out at the last minute and does not blow his brains out before the brain scan comes online in a robot body then you're gonna have a lot of problems there. No continuity occurs and now you both want to kill each other out of primal fear that something alien is mimicking you.

So where's the computer then? On the far side of the moon?

We don't have enough compute to model it
or enough storage to hold the model
you'd have to make a computer out of the thinking meat to be able to analyze the thinking meat

The brain runs on like 12 watts, and thinking only increases energy demand by ~5%, 600mW. The brain only needs 600mW to do what LLMs need gigawatts to do. ML is a joke in comparison.
