FAQ:
>How do I activate Windows?
github.com/massgravel/Microsoft-Activation-Scripts
HWID2 generates and registers a permanent legitimate license on MS's activation servers
Usage: paste into Powershell, run.
irm https://get.activated.win | iex
>and Office?
Same method, use Ohook
You can also use Office.com if your needs are very minimal
or try OnlyOffice/LibreOffice and set it to save in MSOffice file formats

Just pirate PC video games in the Steam RIP website. All of them are free and they have zero viruses! You don't have to install anything and you don't have to rely on seeders just to download anything from that website!

You're welcome!

I'm not gonna lie I don't get the hate for W11 over 10, yes they are installing bullshit AI and bloating with ads, but it's relatively easy to turn off, Microsoft basically encourages you to pirate their software, and it's really the only modern OS that just works, while still being able to configure shit the way you want it.

Sheeple, who vastly outnumber intelligent people today, circlejerk the "durr it's full of ads and spyware" line until it becomes a moral panic, so people stay away from the recently-released Windows X+1. This is always the first step, and has been since at least Windows XP, when tards with always-on internet connections started flooding into computing. Before that, most users had a clue what they were doing, and internet access wasn't assumed by either the OS or said users.

The second step is that people who are in the know - group that, nowadays, is a single-digit percentage of the user base - look through Group Policy and the registry, see all the new options Microsoft provided, and change the ones that alarm them. This starts as .REG files and/or long, annoying command-lines on Superuser. But as time goes by, they get refined into memescripts, then friendly GUIs, to deploy these changes.

By the third step, all smart computer users (15% and still dropping in 2025) know that Windows X+1 is good stuff once you configure it. Being smart, they're employed - so spending $1,000 to run a next-generation OS isn't an issue. Knowledge that Memescript v168.04 makes Windows X+1 great is getting out. But the sheeple have a problem: they've spent the last two years screaming how bad X+1 is, and they can't just change their opinion without wrecking their credibility. A portion of this group will go on to become Windows X "baby ducks", because holding onto a dead OS is better than admitting they were wrong.

>YOU ARE HERE<

At the fourth step, every new computer comes with Windows X+1. Poors are finding computers in the trash that are plenty good enough to run Windows X+1. Windows X goes out of support. 10 year old computers are being replaced, and drivers for Windows X dry up. Software starts having Windows X+1 as its minimum requirements. A "killer app" comes along, and suddenly Windows X+1 is now 90%+ of the market.

Then we hit step 5: Windows X+2 is released...

That's the problem: I'm not actually, "officially" connected to jack fucking shit; any pages I go to for Insider or 365 or whatever either say I'm not connected yet or can start my free trial now (just enter my credit card here) or in the case of cloud syncing miscellaneous account data, I can keep clicking that button to erase everything but nothing changes so it must not have anything to do with that bullshit.

But I know it isn't just some shit from a shifty ISO because I pulled this shit clean from the UUP dump, didn't tweak it, went right in, and yet if I go root around in the registry and export a few keys I'll find crap in a long convoluted string value compiling a history of promos and free trials and old subscriptions I let run dry on my M$ account YEARS ago.

Probably a retarded question, I have a windows partition that I use explicitly for muh simulation games. The C: partition is only used for the system and a couple of essential programs. The 90 gigs I gave it used to be enough but I constantly have to remove installed programs for it and clear caches but it keeps filling up through time. The disk cleanup tool only found like a 100 MB of shit to clear up.
I know that on linux when the drive space starts running low without me installing anything I can just delete the package manager cache and some temp files, is there something equivalent in windows that gets clogged up with update files?

If you don't do regular major version upgrades than windows keeps piling up layers upon layers of minor updates just in case some programs might require specific old version of some system component.
That's what WinSxS folder is for, if it's too big it's not safe to clean manually but it will be cleaned if you upgrade to newer major version (for example 23h2 to 24h2 etc) even in-place upgrade without wipe will help.

I have an old legacy computer I'd want to boot up and do a fresh install of its native OS that it came with, but I see youtubers making videos about instantly getting viruses and shit when connected to the internet. Is it actually that bad or are they up to something?

Some people online say don't connect it to the internet at all. Would it be fine to download the update and patch it to SP3 before connecting it or is SP3 even insta nuked when connected?

When it comes to this specific option, it does directly modify the hives. Word of God (Akeo) says:
https://superuser.com/a/1812525
Only when it is not able to does the tool set the registry keys in autoattend.xml as a fallback.
>>105661914
>90 gigs
It might not be sufficient, unless you like your drive barely having any free space. Take in count:
>base Windows image (open install.wim with 7-Zip and see which edition indexes take how much space, or use the right DISM command to display index information)
>pagefile (virtual memory) and hibernation file (saving your user state when you sleep/hibernate)
>Component Store (WinSxS), where all the system component and feature packages are located, side-by-side assemblies - the latest stuff are hardlinked to respective system folders; older packages are located in case you want to uninstall an update, or when a program requires a specific version of some assembly (avoids DLL Hell in the process); DISM has SxS-specific commands, including doing a cleanup of older update packages
>Driver Store (PnpUtil/DISM can be used for managing driver packages, including removing and uninstalling - DriverStoreExplorer serves as a nice GUI)
>Shadow Copies (incl. System Restore points)
>crashdumps
>user profiles, including user-scope application data (AppData) and user registry hive (NTUSER.dat)
>system-wide application data (ProgramData)
>temporary files (%TEMP%)
>populated registry hives
>NTFS metafiles (some anon a couple generals back ended up with a bloated $TxF folder, containing transactional NTFS metadata - circa 12 gigs)

not to count OEM bloatware - I assume it's a clean Windows install, not some OEM recovery shit.

WizTree will gladly tell you which files and folders take so much space. BCUninstaller is good for uninstalling programs and removing its leftovers that the uninstaller might've forgot. BleachBit with Winapp2 cleaners is also reliable for cleaning junk files.

reporting back on my weird issue of launch steam freezing my entire desktop from the last thread:
i have a laptop with integrated and dedicated graphics. the igpu is disabled in bios, and also disabled in device manager, but after an update it got re-enabled in device manager, which seemed to caused steam to sperg out looking for it for some reason and softlocking the os. disabling it in device manager once again looks to have fixed the problem.

just posting for future reference to help out any laptop bros who have this extremely specific problem. i dunno if its steam or windows in general trying to utilize an igpu thats disabled at bios level but its fucking gay.

It's true.
I've been primarily Linux since 2010 (was Mac for about four years prior to that... obviously Windows before that). I avoided the shit out of Windows until around the time Windows 10 came out.
Windows 10 was pretty alright. Windows 11 isn't bad at all. I don't understand the hate either of them get -- I'm honestly tempted to use it as my primary driver.

The only way is with ionuttbara's Defender Remover script. There's no first party way to remove it from a Windows install because MS don't want you to do that (besides just installing a new AV to turn it off.)
The only other way pretty much being using the group policy to disable it (though not before turning off Tamper Protection in the settings) and restarting, hopefully showing that your Defender is now being "managed by your organization"

All Windows SKUs fall into four different market segments: Server, Business, Consumer and Embedded. Enterprise (which is a "Business" edition) is the "base" version of Windows: in the Microsoft build labs, they compile Enterprise (this is why Insider versions, build leaks etc. are all Enterprise), then add/remove parts, and/or change some settings, to target different markets. Then they throw in a license agreement suitable to that market segment, and off they go.
This is how the market segments are divvied up:
>add server components = server editions
>do nothing = business editions
>hardwire certain config options, remove high-level parts = consumer editions
>remove low-level parts = embedded editions
The segments are then further divvied up to make the actual SKUs. Server editions:
>do nothing = server datacentre
>remove highend server components = server standard
Business editions:
>do nothing = enterprise
>change a couple of registry values to be "kid friendly" = education
As an aside, while Education is technically a "Business" edition (and as such, based on Enterprise), it's often included in "Consumer" edition Windows ISOs for some reason.
Consumer editions:
>do nothing = pro
>re-enable workstation features = pro for workstations
>change a couple of registry values to "kid friendly" = pro education
This is the difference between the Education and Pro Education SKUs: the former is an Enterprise-derived "Business" edition, the latter is a PfW-derived "Consumer" edition.
>remove all support for active directory = home
Microsoft include a lot of management tools (such as the User Manager, Group Policy Editor etc.) in the "Active Directory support" section of the Windows source code: removing AD support removes those tools too. This why Home is such an unconfigurable SKU.
Embedded editions:
>remove all user-facing uwp apps and slap on extended support = [iot] ltsc
>remove the ui, add server components = server core
>remove as much as you possibly can = windows pe

It's a Windows thing, the igpu shouldn't even be detected by Windows and shouldn't show up in Device Manager if it is disabled in the BIOS, but I've noticed from searching "igpu disabled in BIOS but still showing in Device Manager" that there are some additional steps needed in Windows after disabling in BIOS

IMO those steps shouldn't be needed, Windows should be smart enough to realise that the igpu is no longer there and should no longer attempt to load the driver or show in Device Manager, but here we are it seems

Windows ISOs aren't hybrid like Linux ones are so this kind of flashing doesn't work. You need to either use the ISO with a Ventoy disk or manually make a FAT32 USB using wimlib to split the install.wim file into chunks.

Easiest way out: install Windows 8.1 (there have been update packs available for it in MyDigitalLife, just make sure you use the latest official ISO with Update 3 as a base), and slap a Win7 Aero visual style plus StartIsBack+, OldNewExplorer and glass8 (try finding a license or a crack for it - or hope that OpenGlass-legacy didn't completely drop support for 8.1). The TILEZ-based tablet UI is one of the biggest fuckups by microshart, although that can be ameliorated. Plus with 8 introducing native support for modern hardware standards (like USB3, NVMe, UEFI Class 3 support - including GOP support, HID over I2C, etc.), expect much less hardware-related fuckups.

But if you are still eager to install 7. Consider this:
>did you drag and drop the ISO to UpdatePack7R2's executable, and flashed the output ISO (Rufus, or maybe booting from the ISO image file with Ventoy?)
>Windows 7-era bootfiles and the setup engine doesn't really like your hardware; maybe it's best to transplant install.wim into a Windows 10 install ISO? - Enthousiast's MDL Win7 tool does this sort of trick
>or just use WinNTSetup to deploy Windows? (hell, you can even deploy Windows manually by yourself - make use of diskpart to prepare your drive and the right partition layout for GPT/MBR, use DISM to apply the system image to the Windows partition, then install the boot manager and make the system bootable with bcdboot)
>presumably your mobo's CSM implementation is actually fucking shite? In which case CSMWrap might help.

I hope you find the right drivers for the hardware, and whether that one chink modder offers them for your AyyMD mobo.

"Windows PowerShell" 5.x comes installed with Windows and hasn't changed since 2016. 7.x is something you installed manually, has some new features, missing some older management ones that they're still adding back.
>Version 5.1 is the first to come in two editions of "Desktop" and "Core". The "Desktop" edition is the continuation product line that uses the .NET Framework, and the "Core" edition runs on .NET Core and is bundled with Windows Server 2016 Nano Server. In exchange for smaller footprint, the latter lacks some features such as the cmdlets to manage clipboard or join a computer to a domain, WMI version 1 cmdlets, Event Log cmdlets and profiles.[27] This was the final version exclusively for Windows. Version 5.1 remains pre-installed on Windows 10, Windows 11 and Windows Server 2022, while the .NET version needs to be installed separately and can run side-by-side with the .NET Framework version.[100][101]

The user-scope ones that aren't necessary are removed, sure. The fundamental ones from %SystemRoot%\SystemApps that drive stuff like windows defender, lock screen, start menu experience etc. - not really. All part of what Microsoft deems as "user experience", so they're intact.
So don't be surprised that the UWP apps must still be yet serviced by the system.
>FullEventLogView listing a bunch of nonstop WMI bullshit errors and license checks
What a fucking nigger - don't be surprised that Event Viewer logs each and every event and shows it, including information-type ones (which i bet the "WMI bullshit" that you called is these, and I won't be surprised if it's some 3rd-party WMI provider, like from your NoVideo drivers).

Hopefully this serves you a lesson to learn how to use oflfine debloaters if you want to unnigger the fuck out of Windows with NTLite, MSMG Toolkit or DISMTools. Most of the time they're just your regular DISM wrappers, and their add-on packs are repurposed from FoD packages.

I mean you can do that, but why use that over GOG's various piracy sites? No DRM on those compared to having to crack Steam and possibly get account banned (if you're dumb and using your actual Steam account).

Well GOG only has the games it has. If the game you want is on GOG then use those sites to get an actual installer. Any other games you can get from sites like that. They come "pre-installed" so all you need to do is put the files in a exclusion folder tree and run it as admin so registry keys can be made. That site is one of the respected ones, among others.

>8.1_enterprise_with_update_x64_dvd_6054382
That's the one - although you should rather pick Embedded 8.1 Industry Enterprise, due to the longer update timecycle than what 8.1 baseline had.
I believe you can still piggyback from Server 2012 R2 updates, so that you can be up-to-date until 2026-ish, but then again you can just activate the ESU licenses with TSForge and you'll still be all set until next year.
As long as you get from massgrave's ISO download (all of the latest ISOs are based on 9600.17415 - which is Update 3), you should be fine.

I am the guy who updated IoT LTSC to 22H2 a month ago to fix kmode bluescreens.
It didn't work, I still occasionally get them. I tested my ram overnight with memtest86 and it passed. So I'm pretty sure some device on my system is still incompatible. I know my CPU (7800x3D) is supported in 22H2 but I have no clue for anything else.
I admit defeat and moving on to 11 IoT LTSC. It is most likely just a skill issue on my part, but I would anyways recommend that if you have post-2021 hardware then using newer non-LTSC Windows 10 Enterprise, debloating and ESUing it. It would probably be less of a headache.

You can't win this fight.
Best way to deal with this is to accept how things are and use gpedit along with oosu/privacy.sexy and install a firewall such as Fort Firewall. Then add exceptions to Defender (essentially blocking it everywhere) and turn off unwanted features such as core isolation and so on.
With Fort I get 0/0 internet activity yet my Windows update still works if I want it to.
If you want complete and total control of your operating system, install Linux or BSD.

On my other pc just disabling it in the group policies was enough, why doesnt it work on this one?

This is so frustrating about modern windows, using it sometimes feels like a diceroll, your settings may or may not work, you never know until you try it.

I'm fighting with it too and it seems impossible. You have to disable a lot of different "unrelated" services. Some of the services will turn itself on and then turn Defender on. You have to disable updates because those will turn EVERYTHING on. You have to remove Scheduled tasks and change registry. Some registry can't be changed and you need to change it through some recovery mode with windows usb too. I have disabled like 100 things and the defender service is still there. I think I will just try to delete defender folders through safe mode next.

I know this has been said a million times but Windows isn't a bad OS in anyway, other then software compatibility its as customizable as you productively need it to be.

One of the most underrated features of Windows is the using the Path variable. I have a folder named Scripts in my C: drive with useful batch files and I have C:\Scripts in the Path variables so I can call that batch file from wherever e.g. if I want to enable the Visual Studio developer console I have a batch script for it and I can run it from anywhere by typing the batch file name in cmd.

That being said fuck Microsoft.

Thanks for actually replying without being a retard.
It is EAC as this screenshot indicates >>105688242, common EAC error, but caused by different things.
The problem is exactly what I said, EAC crashes after 2 or 3 hours playing (this is besides the point, but my guess is some poor handling of it missing a call home/heartbeat request or whatever at some point and that leads to crashing).
And when that happens, the easyanticheat.exe process is stuck running (no, it is not an always running process), and since it has ring 0 privilege, I cannot end it with task manager.
Thus if I want to play ANY GAME with EAC again (there are multiple online games that I play that use this piece of shit), I cannot open it, since it fails invoking EAC on startup. Something with the way it is crashing makes it so it cannot start new instances of itself, as seen in the create file error.
I don't know what any more context I could give you.
I don't think reinstalling it is gonna solve anything, since it technically works, until it crashes.

It seems like it's either related to physical write permissions or it's caused by defender settings (core isolation/memory integrity, exploit protection/control flow guard) - try checking out these if these are on turn them off.
I do remember that I needed to turn one of these off when I tried Valorant (that's a different anti-cheat) on my old machine couple of years ago. Yeah that's vague.

Microsoft is offering a couple of free ways to extend Windows 10 updates for an extra year, until October 2026

Either sign up for Windows Backup for free (it backs up some Windows settings to your Microsoft account), or redeem 1,000 "Microsoft Rewards" points

The first option seems the easiest. But I guess you guys won't care because you probably hacked Windows 10 to be on some LTSC version that will get updates for another 10 years or whatever.

Is basically just a TPM substitute? As safe/'safe' as TPM? I.e. it will automatically unlock the system disk as long as it is still in that computer, but if you take the disk out, you won't be able to unlock it elsewhere, even with the USB?

Or is it super unsecure, is it basically like having the entire encryption key on the USB stick, and if a person takes out the drive and takes it with him together with the USB stick, he can then go to another computer and unlock the drive using the USB?

- There's no risk of software or hardware not working if I change my Windows 10 Pro installation to am Enterprise IoT LTSC one using the scripts, right? I know some of that depends on certain registry values to work. Dunno if shit breaking is just lies spread by microjeets to force people to W11 or not.
- Will I be able to upgrade to Windows 11 from that later if I feel like I need to?
- If I load an external backup of my current Windows installation and its registry after doing this, will it still stay activated?

Do modern AMD processors still work fine with W10?

I recall reading that the 7900x3d and 7950x3d had scheduling issues on windows 10 due to their power and needing two CCD dies, but that 8 core chips were fine

Is that still the case with like the Ryzen AI 9 HX 375, or AI 9 365, where 9 cores and above will have issues but 8 cores and belows will be fine? Or do some below-9-core ones have problems these days?

Of course you have a TPM. Everything made in the last 15 years has a dTPM. Everything made in the last 10 years has an fTPM. You just have it disabled for whatever reason.
>Is basically just a TPM substitute?
No. A real TPM has brute-force protection, makes it difficult to extract the key, and works hand-in-hand with Secure Boot to protect the bootloader, protect against rogue drivers etc. A simple keyfile on a UFD has none of that.

If you turned that external drive into a recovery drive you should be able to boot from it, assuming the drive has a boot partition and can physically be booted from.
If you just put the recovery file on the external drive, then you'll need a boot medium to use the recovery tool to restore it.
I'm assuming you have a USB drive with a Windows 10 ISO on it? If not you'll need to download the Win10 ISO then sacrifice a USB to turn it into a bootable one with either Microsoft's media creation tool or Rufus.

Think of Enterprise (from the business ISO) as the 10/11 mother edition. All editions are birthed from it with certain things removed to make it less controllable, the worst being Home. LTSC/IoT LTSC is Enterprise with a minimal amount of included UWPs and a highly extended EoL date (in 2021's case the IoT version will get updates until 2032.)

After experimenting with Linux for a bit I can confidently say there is no more polished experience than windows.

Even if you use a "just works" distro like mint or fedora you spend so much time tinkertrooing just to have an inferior experience in most cases.

Software that worked well:
Firefox
MPV
Neovim

Software that didn't work well in WINE/FOSS alternatives sucked
Paint.NET (GIMP, Krita, Pinta, etc all sucked and took more effort to complete the same tasks)
Foobar2000 (Clementine/Strawberry ugly, deadbeef distorts when applying equalizer, fooyin doesn't have an equalizer plugin, audacious can't change preset equalizer values, kinda ass through wine, GUI elemtns dont always work and sometimes can't access network drive)

It should also include the XAudio 2.9 redistributable (normally included separately in NuGet gallery), and properly handle Managed DirectX stuff.
And that's probably it for the difference between it and the official redistributable from June 2010.

I have a similar setup - restored Explorer, without its forced toolbar etc.
What bothers me the most about my setup is the fact that when I click the audio control in the right corner it always opens up that big dialogue - and if my machine is running low on ram (I'm doing work) - it swaps in because the whole shit has been tied to multiple other things. I never had that in Windows 10.
Also - how to restore the old W10 style volume control - I like to see the volume number (i.e. 32 or something) before I click anything. I assume that's impossible in W11.

The whole language selector popout behaviour is entirely different from any other tray popouts.
It's actually a full screen overlay that blocks all mouse clicks until it is closed.
The other popups - settings, calendar/notifications, overflow - are mutually exclusive and switch between each other, only language is displayed on top of either.

I can imagine the reason for this feature - volume control applet was assigned its own locale and language during installation.

For people who don't switch languages it is not that visible.
Most normies prefer to use their own native language anyway.

Moreover, when language selector is open other programs cannot access cursor position at all.
For example firefox tabbar highlights tab under cursor or changes cursor to hand over links and does whatever mouseover javascript the page wants to do, even when firefox is NOT focused.
BUT if you have language selector open then firefox does fucking nothing on mouseover.

downside is people move faster side to side and you have quite a lot less horizontal fov than native res users

In that case you have to give Microsoft money and you'll be forced to switch to W11 this October if you want to keep getting security updates
By the way there is literally (as in literally literally) no difference between a legit activation and an HWID MAS activation. You can completely wipe your hard drive and re-install Windows with an ISO from Microsoft and it will auto-activate
The activation method is piracy
The actual activation afterwards is identical to a legit one

If you ever have any problem where a drive is fucked up to the point where you can't even do anything in disk management, look up diskpart clean. It's a built-in command that you can even use from a bootable Windows USB installer and it basically erases absolutely everything on a drive including any volume or partition. I personally always use it when I want to wipe a drive because you're 100% sure absolutely everything is removed. After that you can just use Disk Management to initialize it (or install Windows on it and in that case it will automatically partition and format it)
TL;DR it unfucks drives (but also erases everything on it)
