For most people Linux in 2025 will just be flatly superior than Windows but there are a few shortcomings:
>FOSSfaggotry
Many of the commonly-recommended distros like Fedora don't come with proprietary drivers/codecs. The end user wants their computer to work, and distros that indeed work should be recommended more often.
>Microsoft Office
If you specifically need MICROSOFT Office (eg for collaboration) and don't want to use the browser version, then Linux is not for you.
>Adobe stuff
Nope.
>Video editing
Premiere and Vegas are crap through Wine, and Kdenlive will remain crap by default until OFX support is added.
>Certain games
Some games' anticheat systems are incompatible with Proton. We are very fortunate none of these games are actually any good, but it's possible a good game might come out that just doesn't work on Linux. I hope kernel anticheat will become a thing of the past due to publishers trying to capture the Steam Deck market. Also,
>Contrarianism
The Linux community is one of the biggest obstacles to Linux progress. Idiots need to stop recommending GNOME when it doesn't even let you put things on your desktop and just turns your computer into an even shittier Mac. KDE Plasma and Cinnamon are the only acceptable DE's, though Cinnamon is ugly. Idiots also need to stop championing Wayland when it isn't compatible with half your applications.
Linux can definitely replace Windows nowadays, but it'll be some years before it's absolutely perfect.
