Use case for thumbnails?

I find the more egregious issue with the GTK4 (and patched GTK3) filepicker is the lack of a preview pane. That's something only the KDE filepicker gets right.

What "thumbnails" are you talking about?
Exactly what is the usecase for those "thumbnails"?
Please explain, in great detail, why I should spend MY precious free time to provide you with such a feature. Try to be persuasive. I expect at least 1000 words.

yeah I can change thumbnail size on mine too, that's what the little slider on the top right is for
ctrl+scroll doesn't work on mine though but if you just opened the window and haven't clicked a file (so basically if the slider is still selected) using the keyboard arrows works fine. xfce is still on gtk3 after all and gtk3 isn't supposed to support that feature, it uses a patch to add it

Fuck zoomers. Can't learn anything new.
GNOME is literally one of the easiest and most intuitive desktop environments out there (by a long mile). Like, they went to great lengths to make it so foolproof that anyone, no matter the age or culture, can learn really fast how to use it. They frequently discuss if features that too few users would use should be removed to make the whole process easier for the average user.
If you are having issues with Gnome, it's on you.

This is actually a deal breaker for me
I'm a graphics designer and I play games.

Recently I tried Linux, I mostly deal with vectors so switching from Illustrator to Inkscape isn't as big of a deal as losing PS for Gimp (Gimp sucks btw, last time I checked it doesn't even have native CMYK support LMAO).
Part of my workflow is uploading .png files for previews for clients and collabs.
So recently I tried Linux, and when I tried to upload an image file, I noticed that the thumbnails were too small.

I upload a lot of files, usually from folders with hundreds of images and I need a good preview.

I asked different forums, boards, and community spaces- and the common answer annoyed the f out of me.
>yeah, it's a known issue with the file picker

See, Linux is like this with a lot of micro-compromises that the community isn't going to tell you until you're actually experiencing it.
It's always "My Linux runs perfectly"...

...and by "perfectly" they really mean "except for these things that barely work, things that I have to tinker around to make work, and things that I've simply accepted will never work".

I have to settle for a worse workflow with Inksape (losing Adobe bridge and all that), I have to settle losing compatibility for some of my games, I have to settle with a worse OS that can't even do file picker right, and all those other inconveniences (Like Mint Mate having no icons-only-taskbar for some reason)... and the Linux community will gaslight me that's it my fault.
No thanks

>>105666759
>and when I tried to upload an image file, I noticed that the thumbnails were too small.
things like that really depend on the DE you choose, because each graphical toolkit uses its own file picker. gtk3 doesn't have native support for thumbnails at all but has a patch to enable them and you can resize them, etc. Qt I believe has supported for a while. gtk4 (which GNOME uses) added support for that very recently after like over 15 years of it being requested
there's also the option of using a third-party file picker if you prefer that as well, but at least it's doable on all of the most popular toolkits now, with only gtk3 requiring to be patched to enable it (I use the patch, it works well btw)
