Fell for the Hidizs AP80 Pro-X meme a while ago. It's okay, but the screen is too small to have comfy usability. By that I mean the lack of features such as add to queue, and kind of troublesome experience browsing a library with too many artists/albums.

>It arrives and I set the same switch configuration as the autoEQ profile I was running
>It sounds far worse than my previous pos with it autoEQ'd to the Hane
What the fuck
It's also far lower volume compared to all my other pos, maybe that's why it sounds worse to me. Does the Hane take more juice than usual IEMs? I have like a $300 PMP that doesnt have issues with other IEMs but on this one even cranking it up to 100% volume doesnt sound loud enough.
>>105668447Yes it needs a little more power but if you're blasting it at 100% you're already deaf most likely. Which PMP?

>>105668494Hiby R4.
100% volume is enough to deafen me on pretty much every other IEM i've tried but on this one it sounds more like what 70% volume of other IEMs sound like
>Wow you really must be fucking deafI guess so, it is what it be.
>>105668523I tried Tanchjim SG II, at 100% its louder than my regular listening volume... with a -12dB EQ preamp. Based on online sources, it looks like the SG II is 1.6Vrms and your Hiby is 2.3Vrms. I think you might be cooked.
>>105668447>autoEQshow your process in detail, starting with the pos you're using EQ on, the preset you chose, and where you're applying all of this
also yes you are deaf
>>105668579I mean I already know that I'm a high volume enjoyer and I prefer more volume to the average non-deaf individual
But as I said none of the other IEMs I've tried have been this low volume at 100% on my Hiby R4.
>What other IEMs have you tried? Most of the $20 1DD pos for starters just because they're all that ever gets talked about in this thread.
But I also have sets that are around the same price as the Hane like the Tanchjim Fission and Truthear Nova that have the same kind of volume level as the cheap crap 1DD ones where around 75-80 volume is good and 100 will destroy my eardrums, yet with Hane even 100 isnt enough.
>>105668596>show your process in detail>starting with the pos you're using EQ onTanchjim Fission
>the preset you chose, and where you're applying all of thisSquig.link, I choose Fission and Hane, I choose Fission in the EQ, hit AutoEQ, export, load it into the Hiby R4 PEQ
>>105668613>But as I said none of the other IEMs I've tried have been this low volume at 100% on my Hiby R4.Yeah, the Hane is less sensitive than almost all pos out there because of the passive filter for the switches. I never expected it to be an actual problem for people, I saw only upsides because less sensitivity also means less sensitivity to hiss and I get way more than enough volume even on weaker sources.
>>105668626Naruhodo.
So what I'm experiencing isn't just placebo then? The Hane is in fact harder to drive at higher volumes compared to most IEMs?
>>105668613ok the process looks fine, so this is mostly explainable by the fact that measurements aren't perfectly accurate to what the FR at your eardrum is
until you start doing level-matched comparisons, any differences you're hearing now will be hard to correct. hane is harder to drive than many, but i'm both surprised and concerned that you listen to such high volumes
>>105668633Yeah, for most pos on SG II I'm at 30-50% with the same -12dB preamp.
>>105668596Dont listen to this eq guide nigga, hes just foaming cause no iems, pagpaggy
>>105668643>hane is harder to drive than many, but i'm both surprised and concerned that you listen to such high volumesI guess I'm just a special boy with special ears then. If anyone is claiming that 4% on windows volume is too loud for them you are either actually fucking incredibly crazy hard of hearing or something is genuinely seriously wrong with your computer's audio rig. There is just no fucking way in hell anyone is listening on 4% windows volume to the point it's bleeding their eardrums. Something has to have gone wrong somewhere along the audio lines there.
>>105669726Nigga listens to 130dB and gets mad when we call him deaf.
What exactly is the argument against hybrids? When comparing Hexa to Gate I feel like the high treble is better on the Hexa. Given that it has a BA dedicated to the high frequencies (see green line in picrel), it seems to me like it's a good idea. Ignore the part that the other BA is not high-passed, but wouldn't a 1DD + 1BA be better than 1DD, if the BA is high-passed somewhere above 2 kHz?
>>105669736I just can't comprehend that literal 4% volume is going to somehow bleed your fucking ear drums.

>>105669827Unironically negligible
>>105669827>>105669831This doesn't seem to affect anything above 3 kHz, so a hybrid with a dedicated treble BA should not be affected by this.
>>105669842This is true. I'm testing with the same tips, and every time it's the same result. E.g. this: https://youtu.be/J1KM0KUvJPs, on the Hexa there is more air, while the Gate sounds low-fi in comparison.
>>105669891Well that's because hexa literally has more treble. You probably can eq it for gate without much trouble. But it also has more to do with its tuning rather than it being 1dd.

a dac with a physical volume rocker is important, given you have system and app volume at 100. only way I end up clipping is if I fuck with eq myself, which at that point, a -2db or so of pregain doesn't really matter.
also...setting pregain to, -30db so you can push your amp all the way up, does nothing.
>>105672422itโs basic digital audio math. digital attenuation (EVERY time you lower windows volume or music app volume or even equalizerapo) at 4% volume = truncated bit depth before your DAC ever sees the signal. that's how that works.

>>105672703This is how you get audio at 0% volume with some DACs btw.
>>105672517>>105672703Can somebody explain how it actually works? With sources
>>105672703wrong. windows volume control in shared mode is digital. it applies attenuation in the audio engine before the dac ever sees the signal. windows doesnโt โtell the dac to turn downโ unless the dac exposes hardware volume controls, which most donโt. enjoy your 8-bit audio at 4% windows volume, champ

Literally in the UAC 2.0 spec.
>>105672793>apple dongle supports UAC2 hardware volume.congrats. it still doesn't have a physical volume rocker. you named one device that actually does it. but windows doesnโt magically force hardware volume on everything. most dacs still rely on software attenuation in shared mode. it's not about shit dacs, it's about you not really understanding how windows audio works.
>>105672489you lower system volume, pregain on peace, or even volume control on your dac, you also lower bit rate.
Of course, but you'll always be better off doing the attenuation with 32bit float precision than 24bit.
>>105672855>you named one device that actually does itsupports UAC2, I meant. not having a rocker.
>>105672855Volume knobs have channel imbalance, avoid.
>>105672860>Of course, but you'll always be better off doing the attenuation with 32bit float precision than 24bit.would be a good point if windows shared more maintained 32 but all the way through. once it downsamples to 24 or 16 bit to send to most dacs, your float headroom doesn't mean dick. attenuation before that step still kills dynamic range and resolution.
4% windows volume and you're in lossyworld

>>105673657Both graphs were from crin and the EQ was all performed inside REW through convolution. The impulse to convolve with was generated in all SPL > trace arithmetic > A/B. Remember that as power increases, distortion drop so using your dongle at 4% you're getting worse performance
>>105674625Bitnigger doesn't know how to read power vs distortion graph, who would have guessed.
>>105674638How do you feel about missing bits and having worse THD+N?
>>105674672>listen here liberal, I listen at 130dB not because I'm deaf, but because I care about the signal to noise ration
>>105674611noone buys that pos except you
as long as you're gain-staging correctly, you shouldn't have to think about bit loss, ever.
>>105674638Is the reason that thd+n is getting better the higher the power, that the noise is constant; so the more power, there is less noise in comparison?
>>105674611$1300 prestige ltd is mogged by $500 top pro
>>105674809Yes. You only begin seeing the distortion at the "knee" of the graph.
>>105674798What stages are there? If I have a dongle and a computer, I plug it in, there is only one stage, isn't it?
>>105674838all the points in your signal path where volume (gain) can be adjusted. if you only have a dongle and a computer, there are multiple gain stages, both digital and analog.
software output level is the first gain stage. the volume of your music player, daw, etc.
next is your eq software, if applicable. equalizer apo and music apps have their own gan stage. setting a negative preamp for any reason, is a gain stage.
some dongles use digital volume attenuation before converting to analog.
then it's the dongle hardware, if it has physical volume controls, that's another stage.
ideally, you want your dac/amp to be the sole controller of final volume output, assuming your software's volume is at 100% as well as system/phone volume at max.
Best low budget IEMs for noise-cancellation/sleeping? I would assume a low profile driver would help.
I got a moondrop Chu II half a year back, but the right ear driver is starting to die. Starts off with weak audio and within 10 minutes it goes nearly silent.
