But I already have GNU nano if I want to edit from the terminal for some baka hentai reason. In fact I even had it installed on Wangblows when I was still using it, despite never having a reason to edit from the terminal. It was bundled with gcc.

Is this a half-hearted attempt to "improve the dev experience on Windows" after too many people were screeching at the recent Notepad?

Seems to just plain sucks even compared to the actual MS-DOS Editor, which by MS-DOS 7.0/Win95 at least could open multiple files at once.

tried it at home, it’s super lightweight but does absolutely fuck all - in the trash it goes. might reinstall if they add syntax highlighting one day.

Notepad takes 1.6MiB memory with no file open on my computer while edit-rs takes 1.3MiB.

If you add in the memory taken by cmd, the most lightweight (unironically) of all windows terminals, which draws the window for edit, then it's almost 3MiB.

It literally is more bloated than just using notepad.

I use nano btw. It's bigger than both but it's simply that good.

Have to say, I didn't believe you guys when you said rust is full of these kind of people, but damn.
I looked at the github repo and every person who works at the project has pronouns in the description.
