Building a new system and need a new SSD.
>Samsung 990 EVO Plus 2TB - $120
>Samsung 990 Pro 2TB - $150
>Samsung 9100 Pro - $175
This will be an OS install drive and game installation drive. For reference I am on a Samsung 960 EVO 500GB with 32% life left on it (according to Crystaldiskinfo, Samsung Magician states health as "good").

I feel like for general use and gaming, the 9100 Pro is a meme, but I may be mistaken. From what I can tell, the 970 EVO Plus is TLC as is the 990 Pro, but the Pro has dedicated DRAM cache. Does this matter at all? The price difference from the EVO Plus to the Pro is only $30 so it's not the end of the world, just don't want to be buying placebo for the sake of placebo.

ASUS OLED monitors are nice, the 24/25" screen mode is best-in-class if you use it for competitive games.
I'm guessing you also researched WOLED vs. QD-OLED, that's down to personal preference.
ASUS is going to release new 32" WOLED monitors with True Black glossy panel finish, but these will be sold at a higher price tier compared to your ROG monitor.

As is the case with many of AMDrones, they originally were gunning for a NVIDIA gpu but once it went out of stock due to demand, they settled for AMD for slightly less money. How did he know that the GPU he was going to buy was going to have rattling fans? Just sounds like cope to justify his loss of his opprotunity to buy a Team Green GPU.

I didn't do that no, this says WOLED and glossy which I didn't really know much about. I was just looking for an affordable OLED model with good HDR to pair with my Switch 2 and also maybe something to use as my main display for my desktop, though that second part I'm still debating on.

I'm not the smartest man in the world, all I essentially researched was price, the quality of the panel, the brightness, whether it supports HGIG for HDR, how vibrant the colors are, etc.

There's someone similar who's taken VCZ comment section hostage but I suspect he's being paid to do it. All he achieves is turning people away from even considering amd.

For LLMs, you'll need at least a 4090. 24gb is the minimum for large models. 5090 is expensive but it allows you to run truly impressive LLMs right at home.

if you look at averages 4080 takes the lead since there are couple outlier games that heavily favor nvidia or with forced RT such as wukong. then if you look the individual results, 9070xt is often ahead

All decent gen4 SSD are so fast you will never notice any difference except extreme workstation loads 99.9% of people here will never use in their life.

Samsung is generally considered the best because they have the best software, but it's not worth much higher price.

990 EVO Plus is a great budget drive.

Unfortunately for AI, CUDA and Tensor/Torch is pretty much required so yes, NVIDIA is the best still and the fastest. For CPU, it's not as big as of a deal, any am5 CPU will work but optimally you should pair a higher end XX90 with a x3d for maximum performance. 7800x3d or 9800x3d.

If you're on a budget, the 3090 is a good option and most models should run on 24gb of VRAM. The newer 50 and 40 series have massive improvements in AI acceleration because yknow NVIDIA = ai company not a gamer company.

Don't act like the 9070XT's overall performance isn't being massively padded by its own set of outliers like Doom: Dark Ages, AC: Shadows, MH:Wilds, and OBV:RE.
MH:Wilds is being review-bombed partly due to the lack of performance optimizations, and the Oblivion Remastered devs announced they will share a performance patch preview in the future.

Anyway, yes, 27 does look better, in certain cases, because things get enlarged, but to get those things both enlarged and look good you need 2k for 27, anyway.

Well, what's the distance? It's not negligible.
To add to what the other anon said: depending on viewing distance and even your eyesight, it is quite possible that you might actually be able to see certain (meaning distant in 3D games) details better if you get closer even on a 1080p@24", but the problem is that you'll also see the individual pixels better. Likewise 1080@27 would have the same positive and negative aspects, so past 24 you'd want to go up in res.
That is unless you're already on 1440p, in which case 24 is arguably too small already.

It's a DIY brand of a major OEM, you'd think they would be more risk-averse with their BIOS.
Someone's guessing the CPU damage is happening before the board can apply the updated microcode instructions.

ASUS is mostly just overpriced.
Gigabyte is fine, they just don't stand out as much compared to ASUS (ROG brand + features) or ASRock (value products).
MSI usually sets stricter default BIOS settings (voltage & current) because they want to minimize RMAs.

Asus makes the best motherboards on the market. Who told you they were trash? But yes, MSI is up there too. I'd only ever buy MSI or Asus boards. I would never buy Asrock or Gigabyte. But to be fair, there's not much competition and they're all garbage anyway, some are just less garbage.

In terms of value, most likely. Check regional prices.
9060XT (16GB), 9070/XT, and 5070Ti are all worth considering if the price is somewhat reasonable.
I left out the 5060Ti 16GB because it usually has a decent premium over the 9060XT 16GB (can be used as a budget workstation card).

If there are significant productivity gains from that upgrade.
A PC mostly for gaming and MS Office loads don't need a CPU upgrade that often.

Because you want to pay as little as possible so you can buy extra cheeseburgers. The strategy is to try to have alternate comparable components and then grab one of them on sale.

For example air coolers:
Peerless Assassssin
Phantom Spirit
Frozn A620 Pro SE

You set the lowest regular price of the cheapest one of them as your target price and then wait until any of them goes on sale lower than that. This is how I have an infinite supply of cheeseburgers.

everyone recycles, it's not like there are any significant changes happening with capacitors, micro-controllers, and other things. so if it matches reference measurements, if it works - there is zero reason to not recycle it. also the produced stock of old models has to go somewhere. in reality - you will never know about it unless you check every single capacitor and every single chip - even buying something with retarded premium does not imply that each and every single components is brand-new right from production belt.
but it's not like recycling is done by mobo manufacturers - it is done by mobo component manufacturers and suppliers. mobo manufacturer might not even know that portion of components is recycled.

Stop lying, I always use DDU when I update my graphics driver and clean install the NVIDIA App.

11.0.4.159 (latest version) has the filter/photo mode enabled after a clean install.
Those features an old & proven feature that goes back to the late 2010s.
The performance issue was caused after the move to the NVIDIA App, they fixed it.

GeForce and Radeon have different architectures with different performance bottlenecks.
Radeon GPUs scaling better REBAR doesn't make them better than GeForce, it just means their chip design is more vulnerable to memory bottlenecks.
What matters is the real-time performance of the games you actually play.

Different GPUs, different architectures, different performance bottlenecks.
Radeon GPU performance scaling better with REBAR-enabled just means these chips have a bigger memory bottleneck.

A GPU being more reliant on REBAR doesn't make it better. What matters is the final FPS.

Sounds like you missed out on getting a 5070ti for about 90 dollars more not 900. I understand that math and graphs are very hard for you since you can't read numbers or charts. Now you missed your chance and you'll have to pay 300+ over a 9070xt since the laws of supply and demand dictate that people want NVIDIA cards more than AMD.

My experience is a lot better from my old high-end 2021 system. It uses so much less power, is cooler and quieter. I have a 5070ti. Video encoding for my hobby is twice as fast and I tried using AI stuff like LLMs and gens and it's a lot faster and easier now.

I can fully max out all my older games like modded skyrim or GTA V at 120+ native 4k while sipping 220w... I can play path tracing games like Cyberpunk, Doom Dark Ages, and other tech demos with RTX much more smoothly, and now I have access to frame gen coming from a 3080. I'd say it's 100% worth it since I can play pretty much any new game that comes out without compromises on my 4k 144hz oled. Clair obscur, Oblivion, Doom, Stellar Blader, Black Myth, Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth, Yakuza: Like a Pirate, a lot of these games I was missing out on DLSS3/MFG so using it in person it's honestly not as bad as people say it is. However I'd leave it off if performance is good enough since you can notice artifacts sometimes. I'd rate my experience a 10/10 since my goal was getting 100% performance but using less power to do it is the cherry on top for me.

CPU is fine for current games, and possibly even through the next cross-generation titles (2027~30, I know).
Don't upgrade if you're content with your current hardware, the video card market is a joke.

You can find some 9070/XT or 5070Ti restocks closer to MSRP, but you'll need to use some stock tracker.
Don't buy these cards if you don't see a need for them.

5060TI 16GB and 9060XT 16GB are okay upgrades if the price makes sense, but their average raster performance is about as good as a 3070Ti.

To me most AAA games are shit you only buy to justify your expensive hardware and to gawk at graphics and see how far you can push your framerates, with absolutely no substance to them. But maybe I'm too closed minded there. That's why I was curious about the experiences others have had.

No they're not.
And none of us recommended people to pay the premium for a 5080, even the mass-replier.
People buy it because they just want one.

The recommendation was always between the 9070XT and the 5070Ti.
People can buy the PNY 5070Ti for $750 during Best Buy's restocks if they're lucky.

In the real world where NVIDIA's very likely to reduce GeForce GPU production to make room for more Chinese data center GPUs.
Supplies will only get worse. AIBs know this and they can wait for more desperate people to pay the premium.

This was the mass-replier's last /pcbg/ thread.
Even he didn't recommend people to overpay for an RTX 5080.

NVIDIA used to enforce a stricter pricing guideline for board partners, they were required to sell at least one base MSRP model.
It seems like the AIBs were able to convince the people at NVIDIA to let them sip a profit off of that AI craze.

I got a 9800x3d recently, I got -35 and +200 on the PBO settings with curve optimizer
now, I see my core clocks aren't going past 4.7ghz (I have it on Auto, same as core voltage)

I have tried static OC and no problem there, but I'd rather not have it on all the time
any way to make it go higher than 4.7ghz dynamically?
maybe I have to increase the load and temps? I tried furmark cpu burner and temps reach like 75ยบ C with 100% usage but it's still not getting past that

with HWMonitor I see it went to 5.4ghz during while booting but maybe it kept the OC settings shortly before going back to Auto

I know I've got a pretty niche use case here but hear me out. What's a CPU I can upgrade to, from a 1600AF, that'll halve software-rendering times for my videos?

I've been using Vegas Pro 13 for many years, ever since it came out I think. Unfortunately, recent NVIDIA cards are not compatible with Vegas Pro 13, so I've been without GPU accelerated rendering for 5~ years now. Yep, I'm rendering entirely on the CPU. The obvious solution would be to upgrade to a newer version of Vegas that doesn't suck, but it's only on Humble Bundle once or twice a year and piracy is a trojan minefield nowadays.

The Ryzen 1600AF is basically a rebranded 2600, ie a 2018 CPU. It's got 6 cores and 12 threads. How much faster should I expect rendering to be on something like a 5700x, which has 8 cores and 16 threads?

The CPU is clock stretching because you set an unrealistic -35 undervolt.
Loosen that to -20 or even -15.

>HWMonitor
HWInfo is better, you need to check the "effective clock" readings.

These can suddenly die due to a vulnerable power delivery design (cumulative transient spikes can end up breaking down a DrMOS).
Search for "dead 3090" or a similar phrase.
3090 Ti has an improved board design, it's even safer than a 4090 or a 5090's.

You should check whether your board supports the 5700X with a BIOS update.
Worth testing considering the price of the chip. Buy it from a retailer with a good return policy.
I don't think there's a benchmark for your specific use case, there are other rendering benchmarks.

-30 and max temp of 80ยบ C gets me 4.9ghz maximum with all cores
for single cores they can reach 5.4ghz with even lower temps
so this is my sweet spot, I might try 85ยบ C limit but I don't really need it, as right now I have more performance and lower temps than before anyway

Oh cool, thanks. That site also has a 2600 review (https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-ryzen-5-2600/9.html) which is helpful as my CPU is just a rebranded 2600.
Per their Blender tests, the 5700x gets 188.5s vs the 2600's 372.28s, so it's approximately 2x faster than the 1600AF. The 12 and 16 core Ryzens are about 2.6x and 3.2x faster respectively, but it doesn't justify the price imo. For the price of a 5950x or 5900x I should probably just buy a 5700x and 32+ gigs of RAM.

you should also consider that zen 3 has unified cache with no cross-ccx latency compared to the earlier ryzens, this helps a lot with gaming, even if the average fps is roughly just about double, the 0.1% and 1% lows are way better on zen 3, everything plays much more consistently and smoothly

Ryzen 3 3200g cpu
GTX 1650 super 4 gb
16 GB DDR4 3200 (2x8)

I made this build in 2020, knowingly with an underpowered cpu. It has been fine so far for gaming and regular use, but lately the stuttering and cpu bottleneck has started becoming a lot more noticeable, especially at boot and when playing a game and streaming on discord.

Now that the prices have come down a lot, I'm gonna get a 5800x and a larger cooler (peerless assassin 120 SE). the new cpu is now 145โ‚ฌ, while the 3200g cost me 99โ‚ฌ at launch 5 years ago...
