I am looking for an AirTag alternative or a cheap iPhone to keep track off
I have 4 AirTags that I use to track my pets, cars, and luggage when I travel.
I was laid off work where I had an iPhone 14, but now all I have is an old iPhone 8 which doesnt have the same tracking properties that newer iPhones have.
I either need a good AirTag replacement, or whichever inexpensive iPhone supports proper AirTag tracking.
my iPhone 8 only beeps the airtag, it wont guide me to it.
Otherwise I have Android for personal use

iPhone 11 is the earliest that supports AirTags, so find one of those used if you can (or new, sometimes they still appear brand new).
Basically just find any iPhone that is the 11 or later and you can use the AirTags.

thanks, looking for sale sites, all iPhones 11, 12, 13, and 14 are all over $100.
Is there an iPad that tracks Airtags just as well? ive been considering getting a tablet.
Otherwise I dont feel like spending over $100 just to keep track of my AirTags.

What other alternative are there? is the Motorola one any good?

There was Tile but I don't know if they are still around or even used a wide network like iPhones do.

As far as AirTag tracking goes, what sort of tracking are you after? The kind where you walk up with your phone and it has the arrow or just being able to look on FindMy and see it within a certain area (like within 20M or something)?
It does work with iPads and also Macs, but I'm not too certain on which models since I've always used my phone and don't have an iPad.

You can also look at used, I've seen some really cheap 11s on eBay and in shops that sell used phones.

There's Tile and Orbitkey (I think even Samsung has some) but the limitation is in the network, which is where Apple has the advantage since it uses the whole network to find shit. So even when I'm not home, if a neighbor has an Apple device, it will still ping the live location of whatever I left at my house. As far as I know, none of the Android alternatives use a network because there are so many different phone types.

I fucking hate Applel to my core but can still admit that shit is goated. They built that "everybody's cellphone is tracking the Joker" thing from The Dark Knight IRL and let you use it to find your fucking gym bag. How did we end up here?

Google does this too, now. You have to opt out of it manually.
There is a reason every company copies Apple, they're the ones who are allowed to normalize this bullshit.

Tile is still around and widely used. I didn't realize how popular it was until I got some for myself. That's a good alternative even today.
