Does it GET extremely hot when you touch it, or IS it extremely hot when you touch it?
bb No.105667314

Anonymous No.105667365
Shorted light socket maybe?
bb No.105667394 >>105667408 >>105668459
It can't be a shorted socket, the device is mounted up behind my closet wall. It was there before I think someone came in my apartment in placed it there.
bb No.105667403
i meant to say it wasn't there before

maybe more like there is some small but resistive load between the terminals causing the heat but not enough to trip anything?
Is it even live in the first place?
bb No.105667424 >>105667437
Someone definitely came in house and installed this without my knowledge. I've never seen this device in my closet until last week.

That's a glowie surveilance box anon. You should pack what you need and leave immediately. They know you've found it and are probably on the way now.

Low voltage transformer? Looks like the shitty BUZZY old one I remember from my childhood home's garage. I think it was for the doorbell.

Take a better picture. If it's hot it might be shorted out, don't zap yourself on live 120V (actual concern, but also take your fucking meds)
Is that on your ceiling?

Light switch?
Looks like one of those metal switch boxes that Americans use because they nail it to studs.
Do you have a multimeter to test if this is electrified?

First it was in your closet, then it was behind your closet wall (wat), now it's mounted to the door? Take a better picture. From farther away, with the lights on.

This looks like a transformer.
Maybe for LED or low voltage sound system?

How will this help you discover what that device is?

it's a 2 phase flux capacitor
Anonymous No.105668239 >>105668273
it's an old doorbell transformer
often times people will get a new doorbell and just clip the wires going to the old doorbell without thinking about what is on the other side of those wires
that box is taking 120v line power and outputting 24v that should lead to a doorbell

if you want to confirm, just use any multimeter to confirm the voltage(nothing else really uses 24v in a house)

or this is a small radio broadcasting your activities to 'them'

I was the one who clipped the wires and no that's not a doorbell transformer because I live in an apartment.

Can you see if your thermostat still works now that you've clipped it?
I wonder if it's a transformer for your thermostat.
