It's the best DE, no contest.
>uses sane desktop model with a taskbar with applications icons like Win 10
>looks good
>performs well
>does everything you need and is very kustomizable if wanted
>has native applications that are really good (Kmail, Kate, Elisa, Okular, Dolphin, Konsole etc. etc.), so you barely have to install any other software for generic stuff, Plasma covers most bases
>is often first to get features implemented, such as VRR and HDR

I had my reservations in the past, but I will say they have done very well with newer versions in getting it more stable, and to make it look better, which were the two issues I had with it.

The main reason I don't use KDE is because it's so offensively ugly. That and for me it shits itself whenever you launch a program.

Also they're constantly fighting Wayland bullshit to make it somewhat usable. Only when KDE start involving in Wayland developement we got tearing support, VRR, HDR, global shortucts, PiP support, session management, icons that aren't desktop file specified, drm-lease (for VR), proper fractional scale, drag support for widgets. They're literally fighting for user features constantly facing opposition from GNOME faggots.

then why does no distro want to support kde as their flagship? ubuntu, fedora and suse default to gnome. rhel defauls to gnome. no one wants to use kde. you know why? because kde fucking sucks. and it uses the qt toolkit which is controlled by the evil qt company. kde will never win. it will always be the lil bro. the second class citizen. the #2. the krashde. the bloat. that is kde's destiny.

lmao no, the "what's the usecase" meme is there for a reason
>gnome doesn't need to do this because it is not a bugfest like kde
multiple time over the years I had to chroot to fix an ubuntu/arch/fedora install at work because gdm made the system crash at startup, no ctrl + alt + Fx support to fix it.
it never happened on the kde spin of these distro
>gnome earns money ethically via user donations
and they spend all of this on salary and outreach, the gnome foundation currently has no money btw, they had to fire the shaman to hire an actual human this time.
>there is no racism in gnome
yes there are, read the CoC, as clear as possible, if you're a caucasian and not a rh employee, you're not welcomed to contribute to the project, I don't make the rule my man.
>your shitty merge requests should be closed by every project
fixing segfault is usually a good thing
>no one uses steam deck in desktop mode for kde
does not matter, it's there and valve wants it to work, they're investing a lot into making kde works fine with money and engineer time.
>plus gayming is cringe anyways
multiple billions dollar business, your opinion does not matter.
>then why does no distro want to support kde as their flagship?
for historical reasons mostly and because rhel/ubuntu are among the most used distros and they default to gnome
>and it uses the qt toolkit which is controlled by the evil qt company.

Okay, serious post here.

I installed Fedora KDE Plasma on a Virtual Machine yesterday. Ngl, I was excited to try it out. I really was. I have never daily drived KDE before.

Then I saw that Firefox still had the infamous "korners" bug! How?! Didn't KDE fix that long ago? Honestly I just closed the VM right after I saw that. Is this Fedora's fault? Because I didn't change anything, I wanted to try out the default settings.

I also don't like how KDE has the top corners rounded but the bottom corners are not. Either round all four corners or don't round them at all! This shit is ugly and distracting.

Any real KDEbros here? Advice? Don't tell me to install a custom theme from a random-who, I hate that. I want to fix this shit for Breeze. I want to give KDE a proper shot.

Serious post.

There is a reason why GNOME is the default desktop. It works. Doesn't matter what the NEETs in /g/ brainwashed you into believing.
SLES? GNOME
Ubuntu? GNOME
RedHat? GNOME
KDE is only used in steamdeck machines, but it's so buggy, steamOS does not use KDE's windows compositor, they use their in-house compositor.
Feel free to ignore the inconvenient truth.

if his display needs something like 125% scaling then fractional scaling on gnome makes text and symbolic icons more blurry than text scaling because gnome lol

The fact that Valve uses KDE is all I need to know about how bad it is. Valve code is so fucking bad. Their CEF browser still causes x86 split locks, their steam input library literally causes mouse performance to tank FPS because they're fucking stupid and lazy. Steam overlay causes the main window to steal focus from your game for some stupid reason randomly.

reason's to use xlibre:
every program just works
copy-paste works every time
drag n drop works every time
multi-monitor VRR just works
screenshare works every time
no linux system-call dependencies
dev actually reponds and posts fix if there's an issue
10-20% better performance
no raging hormonal troons

reasons to use wayland:
half-assed HDR support
the billionaire says you HAVE to use it

Wayland never took over the market and is now out of date. They binned the network side of X11 because "networks dont matter" and its taken Wayland so long to get anywhere that now networks are again important (these things always go in cycles). There are a dozen problems with wayland in the modern environment of hardware and use cases.
