/iemg/ Dogma Check
Tired of the hivemind? Here’s your weekly sanity dose:

>Crinacle is not your priest.
Rankings are a guide, not divine scripture. Your ears > his spreadsheet.

>Harman β‰  perfect.
It’s a preference curve, not a law of physics. Some genres need deviation.

>Chi-Fi isn’t magic.
Great value, yes. Immune to qc issues and hype cycles? Nah.

>Graphs are not sound.
They don’t show staging, dynamics, or fit. Use your ears, not just squigs.

>BA β‰  metallic, DD β‰  perfect.
Implementation matters more than driver type. Always has.

>Meme sets aren’t the whole hobby.
If it’s not shilled 24/7, it might still be good. It's highly encouraged to form an original opinion.

>Disagreeing β‰  cope or deaf.
Let people like what they like without foaming at the mouth.

>Loud posts =/= smart takes.
Confidence without experience is just noise. Show graphs, impressions, or both.

This has been your scheduled break from pos groupthink.

I'm usually a wired IEM person, but I'm on the market for some TWS with ANC to cancel the noise of air travel (honestly my the main use case for these and more important than sound quality)

>Budget: Up to 60~$
>Daily driving 7Hz Salnotes Zero. Used to use CCA CRA+ until they shit the bed. Prefered the audio profile on the CCA CRA+ but the Salnotes perform just as good now that I have an EQ I like.

Now I'm torn between Rose Ceramics X and the CMF Buds Pro 2. They both fit in my budget, allegedly have good ANC (comparable to the other TWS in that pricerange). I'm open to suggestions since I know my main use case isn't to cancel out dynamic, constantly changing noisy environments, but a constant droning, so there might be better options than the two I listed.

Also wildcard suggestions like regular IEMs/Eartips that do an equally good job at isolating the noise are welcome too. I currently use hybrid silicone/foam tips.

Monoblock impressions
>Benchmark AHB2 + Sonnet Pasithea
Not good, I prefer stereo. Running mono actually sounds worse in terms of timbre – it’s even more sterile-sounding, and resolution takes a massive hit – there’s a lot of microdetails that gets smoothed over (maybe because I’m afraid to turn the volume up).

In terms of pros, monoblock AHB2 stages slightly better and drives Duality better than the Holo Bliss, but that’s about the extent of it. It could be misconfigured settings on the Sonnet or AHB2s, but I’m not inclined to problem-solve such a gimmicky setup.

Stereo AHB2 good, mono AHB2 bad.

>Sonnet Kratos + Sonnet Morpheus
Noisy configuration, not meant for IEMs. It’s a shame because it seemed pretty good with the modhouse tungsten.

>iBasso Amp 14 card
Similar performance to the Amp 16. Good tube coloration in that it sounds warm and sparkly without becoming muddy. Makes the stock Amp 15 sound cold and flat in comparison.

However, amp 16 is still my pick because you get the option to choose between tube and class A/B, meanwhile amp 14 is stuck on tubes.

Hearing the amp 14 also solidified my opinion of the Cayin RU9 being a massive meme and FOTMslop to bait tube newfags. The Korg-tube on the RU9 is thick and harsh-sounding, and a far cry from Cayin’s own C9ii.

The Denon perl pro does this and it's effectively just a randomised EQ. Behind the marketing BS it's using otoacoustics which is useless for this. It's great for diagnosing profound deafness in babies but useless for accuracy predicting Β±6dB sensitivity at different frequency ranges.

What could actually work is measuring the reflection time of an impulse and using that to predict the ear canal length and resonant frequency but even then you won't auto fix it, you'll still need to adjust the EQ levels yourself

Speaking technologically, can someone explain the appeal of music like this to me?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqVTGWNSt2U
I was looking through the gazette yesterday, and spotted picrel. It is $5K POS, so I was intrigued by what anons do be listening on such setups. Found, gave it a try and it's nothing? Like, there's nothing to the music, it's "my second time in the Fruity Loops" type of track with some pretty unpleasant (but I'm sensitive to high frequencies) vocals over it. I'm not bashing, I'm just trying to understand. Can someone point me at 1) why is this interesting 2) more examples of good music of this sort (and what it's called aside from weebshit) 3) examples of bad tracks in the same vein

Thread is slow so addendum:
I got pissed at the channel imbalance of the volume pot on my Questyle, so I went to try the Mass-kobo 433 again: no channel imbalance despite the lack of relay attenuators/digital volume control. I know Masuda-san bins the TKD pots he uses for his amps, so fuck me, Questyle is charging $2800 for this pos and still cheaping out on the volume pot?

Also the Mass-kobo 433 has a 10-ohm output impedance so it's "cheating" out more bass on Duality than more expensive amps like the AHB2 and Violectric Nimbus/V550. And honestly, the 433 is "good enough" for me to settle with, but I can't bring myself to buy it because I keep thinking I can find a better amp.

This to me looks like an odd choice: why increase 200-400 Hz when it was already compliant with 5128DF?
And they also decided to reduce everything above 1 kHz, when again, it was already very compliant with 5128DF. All of this combines into a seemingly more downtilted new meta tuning, which was already at the limit of boredom and lacking excitement for many.
The look of it is fine, but they really changed the shell which is now considerably larger and with a much less angled nozzle, both of which will make it wear less flush with the ear.
As per usual, I recommend everyone to wait at the very least for 5128 measurements and additional measurements and impressions. Sales start on the 26th.

Pufff... That's not like it was his idea. ISO 11904-1/2 DF has existed since ever, and JM-1 DF is just translating it to 5128; comparing that DF to the 5128's DF is hilarious.
Anyone with a little knowledge ignores treble and is adjusting length modes annoyance by ear anyway, so one would reach the same result with either DF.

Just in couple easy steps it can be done:
>disassemble headphones
>locate ROM chip
>dump its content (you might need to desolder it first)
>find the voice line
>if there's no ROM integrity check, replace the voice line
>if there's, first disable integrity check and then replace the line
>solder chip back if desoldered it earlier
