I don't know, I just hid that part of the menu using a uBlock Origin script. I'm not exactly looking for a cinematic experience from YouTube, it's just slop to listen to in the background as I work.
>>105681401 >script
Meant to say filter, you get the idea. Anyway, I believe it was this one:
youtube.com##.ytp-quality-menu .ytp-premium-label:upward(.ytp-menuitem)

Not wrong at all, I have a huge archive of downloaded YouTube videos, you can go back to those years old videos that have the premium bitrate option, download the non-premium 1080 encode and compare it to the ones I downloaded from 5+ years ago, and they have identical bitrate.
>>105681611 >1080p non-premium is the same quality 1080p
The bitrate was actually a bit higher before 2020. I've compared videos downloaded in 2019 to the same video right now, and the old one looks noticeably better. I also tried comparing the bitrates, and the old one does in fact have a higher bitrate for the same codec.

Nope, I've got downloaded videos going back to 2014 and I've looked at dozens of them thinking it mightve changed, but after checking like 20 or 30 videos there was zero difference
>>105681670
Nope, you're just a coper thinking they MUST'VE decreased quality, despite the obvious fact it would take a fuck ton of processing power to re-encode all those old videos with a new lower quality encode.
>>105681703
Honestly, most of the time I don't even bother putting them in a separate window. Most videos get their point across with only audio just fine. If it's something important, I'll just watch it and not do anything else in the meantime.
Enjoy the lower bitrate. Niggas who think 1080p is 1080p does not deserve higher bitrate. There is no 'resulotion' in data. The resolution is finished just after the show phase. Blu ray isn't 1080p. It is certain bitrate.

No one is saying 1080p is 1080p, they're saying the non-paid 1080p bitrate has remained the same over the last decade+, even after the paid higher bitrate option was released.
A lot of morons think when YouTube started offering 1080p premium bitrate, they downgraded the non-paid 1080p bitrate to be even worse, which is simply untrue.
Shouldn't we just be glad we still have 1080p though?
YouTube is expensive af to run. I'm not surprised they're trying to rake in a few percentages of the billions of dollars it cost to run.
>>105681611 >there is no difference in quality besides the primary source of image quality in digital video
Congratulations on being even dumber than the children who make daily youtube threads.

You can. Look for TTV lol. I use it with streamlink, but it works on most browsers. I would say ublock filter is better for browsers though. Keywords: twitch ad solutions

Wrong.
