>>105681570>Why did they kill it/ did it fail?G+ was a massive fail. Astronomical even.
The reason why, was because it didn't fill any missing place in the market. Google Plus was a directly competitor to Facebook, created only for this exact purpose.
This was during a time where Facebook was in great motion, and had already solidified itself as a leader in social media.
All the young people were already set up, and the older generation was slowly starting to as well.
Think about the situation from a users perspective.
You have a Facebook account. All your friends have an account as well.
Your social groups are connecting over Facebook, and Facebook hasn't made any big whoopsies at this point.
You're already set. So why should you then move to Google Plus?
The fact that Google was so indiscreet about this being a Facebook clone, maybe everyone make fun of them, and that only solidified the project as a failure.
Because now you don't just have to convince your normie friends to move away from a perfectly working platform, you also have to convince them to move a place that's riddled with ridicule, and seen as a failure from the onset.
Google Plus was destined to fail from the beginning, because it was made out of spite.
I never jumped the wagon myself, but did keep up with news, and when they finally killed it off, it was honestly for the better of the site itself.
