how did comp sci turn so gay?
It used to be the coolest shit to be able to write a program now all the magic is gone

Programmers forget to become epic hackers and instead become boring codemonkeys
You need the cool cloak. You need a green and black UI. You need to be able to type very fast, at least 180wpm. And you need to specialize in cybersecurity. Everything else is gay

the hackers got addicted to ricing and customizing their computers and started ricing and customizing their gender instead

Massive commercialization and increased (but unnecessary) complexity.

Everyone who could use a computer beyond the basics got into compsci and now there are millions of other people who can code. Add LLM code generation on top of that and now programming stops being something special.
I think there's still some programming things that are "cool" like low-level and systems stuff, and most programming courses don't go in depth into any of that shit anymore since modern code has been abstracted to hell and there are libraries for everything. Being able to code in an assembly language was cooler ever since compilers became mainstream and it will always stay cool.

It is a lot less gay than it was in 2015. What are you even talking about. The culture 10 years ago sucked the life out of everything. Do you remember donglegate?

This is a 12 year old's idea of what a "hacker" is but in a way you're right. Aesthetics are important. Developers could have formed elitist coalitions for job security, but instead they opted to make everything overcomplicated for their personal job security.
