I would be using Concurrent DOS as a base. It already has a taskbar and overlapping windows in text mode.

I kinda want to try to build a conscious AI with all the experimental shit that came out. CoT, DGM, CTM, lots of RL, whatever funny memory, content pre-compression, etc. I have almost 100 AI papers saved in my library right now, but I haven't built a simple model yet.

One thing I would borrow from TempleOS is having a wallpaper that displays status information. On Concurrent DOS if you open all four windows they float in front of nothing but blackness, and that's not very divine.

Afaik emulators are harder to make than OSes because you also have to deal with timing constraints.

Back in college when I was pulling all-nighters and abusing substances pretty regularly I latched onto this idea of open source, programmable, combinable hardware control surfaces specifically for audio/visual performance. Basically like a line of combination midi+lighting controllers that could be assembled similar to a modular synth that also had the had the capabilities of running their own soft synths in-box and outputting audio, and every single knob/button/slider could be assigned for just about any function.
Of course, I was essentially just trying to invent something in between the very real and very boring midi controller and the common mini pc with a neat enclosure but if I was schizo it would be a neat Sysiphussian task to dedicate my life to.
