Loonix desktop in 2025:
>Replace most core utilities (sudo, ls, etc.) with untested clones with fewer features.
>Replace X11 with Gayland, for worse accessibility, software compatibility issues, missing features, and (as a cherry on top), making some games slower.
>Dropping 32 bit support. Loonix running on fewer hardware options, and losing software compatibility with many games.
How do we cope? Do we all move to macOS now? Tim Apple wouldn't treat his paying customers like this, that's for sure.

It's rust retards crying about "MUH WINE!!!! MUH STEAM CLIENT!!!!"
But wine supports WOW64, same as windows and if distros actually remove 32 bit libraries, steam will just release a 64 client, just like how they did on macOS.

The people crying about this don't understand this.

32bit is a misnomer
They should say they are dropping i686 because that is the real intention here, drop anything pre-core2/athlon64 and the handful of non-x64 CPUs that where released afterwards.

Ubuntu recently dropped i686 as an arch that can be installed upon but still provided 32bit packages.

said hardware options are my 2001 thinkpad r40 and 2007 thinkpad t60 with the non-64bit capable CPU (though I replaced it with a 64-bit capable one anyway for ~7 yuros) horror of horrors I won't be able to run modern distros on them whatever will I do

A long time ago, to try to catapult his own career, Lunduke tried to ruin Stallman's life. This was over a decade ago before others started doing it.

He had this weird video podcast called "Linux Action Show" or some shit, where he portrayed himself as a free software supporter and educator, except all he did was attack free software.

In one episode, Stallman said what he has always said for decades. That proprietary developers will have to find a new job if freedom wins.

Lunduke (a proprietary dev) only pretends to like freedom. He doesn't know what freedom is. The only thing he knows about it is that it's "open source".

That's why Lunduke was so vividly furious when he found out what Stallman said.

Instead of arguing against Stallman's statement, he spent the rest of the interview and in the next videos digging up Stallman's posts about age of consent and claiming that Stallman hates children and wants to starve children to death because children can't survive without proprietary work.

The OP is either Lunduke himself, or a bot that he's deployed, or a Pinoy, Indonesian, Turk or whatever who shills for him for free under the assumption it'll turn him/her White.

None of Lunduke's shill posts get deleted and he dodges the question every time.

Is Lunduke a fed or is he paying 4chan to let him use posts as ad slots because he's never gotten banned for shilling and begging for money?

Linux doesn't provide a compatibility layer like WOW64 on Windows which would allow you to run 32bit software on it. Flatpak doesn't cut it for a lot of people, distrobox isn't normie-proof.

Fedora wants to cut 32bit packages

Windows dropped 32bit support 18 years ago, was that a problem? It's like he ran out of real issues and needed to list at least three

Windows dropped the 32bit libs nut at least has the WOW64 wrapper for running legacy code and linux doesn't so of course it's a retarded decision like putting the cart before the horse.

Nigger, without 32-bit binaries WINE can't run some old shit. The amount of VNs that require 32-bit codecs to run on GNU/Linux is actually quite big.

The difference between windows programs and linux ones is that the linux ones are open-source and thus maintained for as long as people see a use in them. This isn't some freeware you downloaded in 1999 from a company that doesnt exist anymore. If you really need to run some obscure version of 32-bit WordPerfect just use a VM with an old enough OS to match it. Like >>105708614 mentioned you could also use some hacky emulation workaround like proton if you so desperately need to, who cares.

The difference is that Windows supports 32-bit libs and software because it has WOW64. Linux doesn't have an equivalent to this.
Someone would have to make these things work at least through distrobox or flatpak.

>>105711582
Wine 9/10 have support for running 32-bit windows software, although it's experimental.
Valve will be forced to act on this anyways because a lot of their customers rely on 32-bit dependencies.

You know how WINE works? It's basically a translator that converts Windows syscalls to GNU/Linux equivalents.

32-bit software relies on 32-bit GNU/Linux binaries. It's not trivial to simply call 64-bit binaries instead or it would've been done a decade ago already.
