I guess but at the start it was different enough to warrant its existence. Today if we take stock android as it comes preloaded, no modding, no custom roms, use it like a normalfag would, its just discount iOS with none of the advantages and some downsides.
And when you take Samsung or any 3rd parties they just get even worse.
I say this as someone who dislikes apple and never had or would consider using their stuff but if I absolutely needed a normalfag phone, I dont see the selling point of android. Idk why android suicided by catering to an audience that will never take it seriously just like Firefox while abandoning the only ones who cared about them.
and even as a power user iOS has some nice advantages like automatic local PC sync and full local backups, my Nokia could do that even, still hate lack of that after like 13+years of android, here its all gay google cloud shit or some clunky manual trash.
Also I'll never have a google account, especially when they ban you for no reason and hold your shit hostage until you send them ID, I haven't heard of apple doing that or their users are so buckbroken they don't even complain about it.
I'm just over modern smartphone. Idc about online services but if I did I'm saying googles is horrible (probably contributes to the reason I hate all of them) apples at least on paper and from afar seems more usable.

They got too afraid to take chances. Really early Android was pretty interesting, like the Donut era, but then it really went all in on copying Apple around the Pixels debut.
Ironically the Pixel was also the last Android I had before just getting an iPhone.

2 was peak android for me, 4 was also still good.
5 was when the bs started and by 6/7 the decline was obvious. Im on 9 right now and its what convinced me I'm not buying a new smartphone anytime soon, used newer versions on others phones and they're even worse.
Not gonna lie when they came out with the automator on iOS I was really jealous of that, there was such a thing years earlier on Android and it got banned from Play and abandoned by the dev. That was another moment where I was thinking wtf are they even doing with android anymore. Good they can only ever clone the pointless bs not anything actually useful, but I guess fair that I'm also probably the only one who'd be sold on an iPhone due to stuff like automator or iTunes.

Automator is really good, the amouhnt of shit you're able to do with it is pretty incredible. I vaguely remember the same thing on Android a long time ago but had no idea Google banned it.

Go try accessing App files using your File browser app, I'll be waiting. The only thing you can do now is access general files like Music, photos, Videos and user created folders even on an SD Card.
