Windows 10 LTSC deleted all my files after an update. I have been tinkering with regedit, powershell, cmd, scripts, group policy and reading random forums three days and now I can't take this any more. Windows is for cuck_slave retards and I can't take this humiliation any more. I switched to Linux Mint and everything from Nvidia driver to bluetooth audio just works as default. Holy shit this is like future.

I only had this situation once and it was easier to recover from than when an update bricked my old Windows 10 install. Linux is a lot more verbose. Windows gives vague error codes, if you Google them you get multiple answers about what might be wrong.

It doesn't often break and it's not mindless. Until last year I was using Windows 10 1809 LTSC. I debloated the fuck out of it to get it to run nicely on my old laptop with only 6GB of ram. That's one thing that's nice I can say about Windows 10. Once you strip it down and get rid of all the garbage it's a solid OS that's both modern and not resource intensive. But that only applies to LTSC which you must pirate in order to use it, they don't sell it to you meaning there is no official support for that product as far as non-corporate users are concerned. When I would mention the story from >>105717320

>an update bricked my old Windows 10 install

I would be talking about my Windows 10 Home install on an even older laptop. Years of updates on the debloated stripped the fuck down LTSC and I NEVER had a problem with jeetware updates rendering Windows unbootable. But every time I tell this story people get confused and think I'm talking about having issues with the debloated LTSC install and my problem is that I didn't do things the official Microsoft sanctioned way. I learned the hard way that it isn't the truth. The only true Linux catastrophe I experienced was doing dist-upgrade to go from Ubuntu 22.04 to 24.04 and in the process packages relating to SSL getting fucked up. I was unable to use APT, curl, wget, anything to fetch the packages I needed to fix it. My solution ended up being writing a python script to download those packages then manually install them and crisis averted. Better than the one entire week it took me to figure out how to fix my stock Windows 10 Home install when updates fucked it.

Shitnux may work fine for static, single purpose hardware but it is an absolute nightmare when it comes to personal computing. Also, not sure what you mean with control given that you can change/hack pretty much every aspect of a windows system. Windows does not stop you from making changes to GPO/registry entries. And there are github projects that allow you to disable telemetry or recall (easier than learning a different hobbyist os). Also, you can get a license for as low as 2.99 (W10 key, then upgrade to W11)

I am using it right now and I don't consider it to be a nightmare at all. Moving from 10 LTSC to Kubuntu 24.04 was fairly easy. I just had to customize a few things to keep my old workflow. Like setting up Windows key + shift + s to take screenshots like it does on Windows. I use flameshot for that purpose. I am assisting with the 10->11 upgrade at my work so I know how cheap it can be. I just have no desire to ever run Windows 11 myself. I've tried it and I think it sucks. I don't need any software that exclusively runs on Windows. Every Windows application I do like runs fine on wine and everything else I use is foss.

>>105719086
My best guess is those tasks were still using those mounts and they failed to get killed in time for the unmount to happen causing it to get tied up. I haven't ever experienced this. One machine that is being used as a server at my work does have an issue where when I will run the command shutdown or reboot it simply hangs and does nothing indefinitely.

you do you I guess. Thanks for your feedback regarding the shutdown error. As you may have seen from the Pic, I had to use sysrq regularly to shut the system down safely which was getting annoying. Needless to say, I prefer the ease of use and stability that windows provides.

See the thing with windows is that you literally don't have to tinker for it to work. Maybe except for drivers but those are brain dead easy to install.
I don't undestand why all this retards treat windows like Linux, thinking you have to tweak it inside out for it to do what you want. It either does what you want or it doesn't, you won't rewrite it to your liking.
The most you can do is tweak the GPEDIT but even that is just snake oil. Windows works when you leave it alone and just take care of the absolute minimum.
Now, I'm not saying windows is without flaws or better than Linux or anything like that. I'm just saying people always like to break windows and then blaming it for failing.

Windows might not need tinkering to just werk, but it does need tinkering if you want to make it productive and remove the cancerous new features they love to add. And the problem with windows tinkering is that they constantly find ways to fuck your shit up. Creating a productive and ergonomic environment on Windows is a Sisyphean task. That's why I use Linux.

As a professional windev this post is retarded and wrong. Windows is by definition the tinker tranny OS if you want to execute and deploy any level of non-trivial software to an actual Windows server or end user device.

Linux is literally light-years ahead of Windows at being a fully immutable OS. I sometimes wonder if all these windows users on /g/ even know their OS or are just jobless neets or nocoders or something.

They're incurious techlets who only rely on their OS as a vehicle to run software created by others like Microsoft Word or Adobe Photoshop. They think they are experts because they opened Device Manager to find the ID of something that had a missing driver once and Googled it.

Doing any serious development on Windows requires WSL. If you want your computer to do something more interesting than bootstrap you into Google Chrome and Steam, Windows is not fit for that purpose without WSL.

This. Every fucking time linux users complain about their windows breaking it turns out they were running some retarded "unbloat" scripts that they did not read, change settings they did not understand and delete things they should not delete. It's actually amazing how creative they can get when it comes to breaking windows installs. Too bad they're completely incapable of making the simple connection of their actions having the consequence of shit being broken - it's always someone else's fault.

nothing was loss, but a new Linux install was required for the other computer

I still dont know why the OS shat itself but I am happy no personal files were lost, a complete access to old SSD was simply the matter of knowing admin password

Yeah but because most distros have the option to split your home folder onto a different partition, you can reinstall your OS without losing your files.
Recently bought a 8TB NVMe SSD, copied my home partition to it, then extended it to 8TB and just have it mount to /home now, all my personal shit is on an entirely separate drive, and my install drive could be ripped out of the machine, smashed, and replaced with a new install and I wouldn't even notice.
