Yes, check the Microsoft Store to receive the update. If it's updated, go to Notepad's Settings and see if Formatting is enabled (under Text Formatting). Mine was enabled by default.

Holy.. account and bing in my basic notepad?
How did windows manage to make thier built in tools even more useless than they already were? I used notepad, wordpad, paint, calculator and more extensively on W7. Also dont forget "calculator needs an update before it can start"
I thought it was humiliating enough that OS X had an actually decent media player, a great partitioner, automator, etc for over 20 years built in.
Explorer is probably the only thing they haven't fucked yet (I use Linux so I wouldn't know if they did, I never used 11, 10 was more than enough bs for me)

At least it's .md and not some cringe like .doc
honestly .md is fine because it's basically the same as .txt, it just interprets some markup.
For those who don't know, it's like this

## It's over
- It's over
1. It's over
2. It's over

**It's over**

it was over as soon as win11 released.
https://superuser.com/questions/1730634/windows-11-notepad-app-takes-up-huge-memory

The new notepad was always dogshit and the very first thing I got rid of and replaced with the previous version of notepad that launches in 3ms instead of 3 seconds.
Them adding formatting to notepad of files wasn't something I expected but in retrospect I am not the least bit surprised.
