Sometimes you don't need a use case to work on something. "Build it and they will come." Lots of mathematics work had no use case for decades or even centuries until someone needed. People like Emanuel should reflect on and acknowledge the fact that they aren't in a place to decide how users might decide to utilize their computing devices. What might seem like "bloat" to a cis wh*te male could be an integral part of the computing experience for a Trans Woman of Color. It takes courage to acknowledge that being in a position of power over minorities does not give you free reign to make blanket decisions for that that will affect how they interact with and perceive the world around them, especially the digital landscape that has become the lifeline of many trans folk that have been bullied and harassed in the real world and especially under the current administration. In fact, being in a position to serve these people is a privilege and and opportunity that should be exercised with care and feedback from the community. On this front, Emanuel has failed, with his explicit invalidation and rejection of disabled GNOME users being the most recent example. In times like this it is important that we don't cede any more power to the people trying to hide trans and disabled faces and dehumanize them by implying trans people have no "use case" to exist, which is a thinly veiled endorsement of the ongoing trans genocide that is taking place in the US and globally. We need to call for new leadership that will consider and act on these issues with action that is equal to their importance.
