It never left. I think what you meant is piracy becoming mainstream/popular again, in which case the answer is NO.
Someone has to pay the corpo globohomos. If every normgroid and their grandma started pirating, they'd crack down way harder on existing piracy platforms. It's only because we have the mainstream population paying for us that we're able to pirate away under the radar right now.

Piracy was never stealing. You don't lose stock once something is pirated. It's copyright infringement; you've made a duplicate of something corpos have deemed that you aren't allowed to.
If they had their way humming to yourself would be considered piracy (and is on streaming platforms.)

You canโ€™t own intangible information. The entire concept of men with guns coming to your home to kidnap you and put you in a cage if you share video games or an ebook with your friends would literally sound like a dystopian fiction novel if it wasnโ€™t our reality. Unfortunately we live in a dictatorship of the billionaire class where people are gaslit hard into feeling guilty for sharing with each other.

Every fucking day Stallman gets more and more right.

Indian malware makes piracy too risky these days. It's not like back in the day where an honest nerd gave you a keygen with sick music and not a trojan to be seen. You need to really, really trust your sources, which gets more difficult the newer the software is. The only things I pirate nowadays are old games because, my offline-only PS2 is essentially sandboxed and it doesn't matter if someone injected malware into the ISO.

Playing old games (buying 2nd hand even) and playing indie games is as just as bad if not worse than piracy, the problem isn't piracy itself, the problem is people not supporting developers by buying new games from AAA studios. The PS5 and and gaming gpus should be regulated and registered, if you don't buy a new game in the month then you have a subscription penalty fee deducted against your account to cover the cost to the industry of not buying a new game

Piracy only abated because companies were championing business models that either weren't retarded or weren't turning a profit for them, since they were basically scams for bagholders (Netflix and other streaming services).
Piracy is always a service problem and running a consistent and functional service has never been feasible for a retarded, publicly traded company.

Copyright itself is shit and generally harmful to anyone other than large conglomerates and law firms. The duration and scope has nothing to do with normal cultural iteration or safeguarding and encouraging creators, but rather is wholly focused on catering to the needs of law firms, NPEs and marketing companies.
