They (2~3 spammers) will come back.
The thread has slowed down a lot, but it shows how much the replies were filled with 2~4 people fighting.
If you skim through the past 3~4 threads, fewer GPU-related charts & screenshots are being posted.

It's not a guarantee, but I trust those three more than ASUS, MSI, & Gigabyte.

Any chance you have an input on how good the panels are from those brands compared to G24F2? I don't know much about monitors but going from a 18 inch LED to it just felt like the perfect coloring and everything. So now I wonder if these other monitors could be even greater quality or somewhat worse off

Arrow Lake boxed CPUs attract a very small audience because the gaming performance is about as good as a 14600K.
Professionals usually don't want to build their PC, they're much more willing to pay the system integrator premium to deal with hardware-related issues.
So you're left with PC overclockers and they're the worst kind of buyers to have (binning CPUs and returning most of them).

I put 5060Ti 16GB as a placeholder.
You can get a cheaper case, idk what kind of CPU you're looking so I put the 7700X (strong value for 8-core Ryzen).
The Zillion PSU is good & runs relatively quiet.

Did some digging and found out the Zillion PSU includes a 7-year warranty and uses Taiwanese caps.
If you want a PSU with a 10-year warranty and Japanese caps, you might have to jump up to the Corsair RM850x (2024) ($155ish).
There are some other choices in the $130 range, but I'd rather pay $20 extra for the RMx (good noise rating).

Should be fine if it's not counterfeit (no reason why they'd want to do this to such an unpopular CPU) or broken
People who bin CPUs also don't tend to cause any damage to CPUs during the 30 seconds or so they spend checking out it's frequency voltage table

Maybe if you find a decent discount for the motherboard and memory kit.
You want a fast memory for that platform.
The +8000MT/s XMP kits arenโ€™t worth it for a used CPU.

I would consider this one, but you can drop down if you donโ€™t want to pay that much.

6/28/2025, 7:08:56 AM No.105730642
My motherboard and case can support 8 different internal drives.

>x2 NVME
>x2 SSD
>x4 HDD

And right now I only have 1 NVME used as my main Windows 10 system but I want to back up my NVME with a HDD in case it one day fails on me. At first I thought just plugging in a HDD and saving all my important stuff to it but I realized, backing up and restoring Windows and all my settings fucking sucks and I'd rather mirror my NVME to a HDD instead.

So my question is how do I go about this? RAID or mirror, what's the differences? I see the term mirror used a lot and wasn't sure if there was a difference. Can the drives be different sizes and not like RAM? Say 1 2TB NVME mirrored to 1 6TB HDD? I'm not looking to go full tinfoil(protection from meteor strikes, floods, earthquakes, FBI breaking in). I know some things will just be out of my hands if they ever happen. I just want to back up my NVME as these things feel like you're dancing on thin ice.

My idea was if either fails then all I'll have to do is remove one and my system will think nothing ever happened. If I got that right.

Well here's the thing anon, you cannot mirror a fast as fuck drive to a slow as balls drive because the slow one literally cannot keep up with the fast one. So if you mirror them (also called RAID1) then all writes to the mirrored device will have to wait for the slow as fuck HDD to do its job, or else your data is not going to be mirrored if it's only written to the SSD. In a mirrored configuration I'm pretty damn sure you need to write to all devices before the write operation can be considered completed. Read speeds should benefit from both devices but at the same time I don't know whether any RAID solutions actually expect you to put slow as fuck and fast as fuck devices in the same mirror and as such I'm not certain even reads would work as expected (the RAID software could expect that both devices are of similar performance and attempt to use them equally, which would suck with a HDD).

In any case it's a bad idea and doesn't really make any sense. Either get 2 of the same drive (2 SSDs) to mirror them, that would work fine, or get a HDD and use it for periodic backups in addition to media and shit, not for live mirroring. Make (at least) 2 partitions on your SSD, 1 dedicated for Windows and a few programs and relatively small (say 250GB or less, should be more than enough) and another for big installs like games and so on. Make periodic backups of your Windows partition as backup images and store them on the HDD, if your OS ever gets fucked then you can easily and quickly boot into rescue media and restore a fully working OS image.

Yeah if the SSD itself dies then tough shit, at least you're not going to lose (much) data. If you want high availability rather than protection from data loss, then indeed you could mirror your drive but for that you need 2 drives of similar performance levels or you're going to kneecap your entire system.

I got a 18" 4080 laptop from my brother still under bestbuy's geekslop warranty (he swapped back to mac, kek) and I think the gpu is fucked (its running at essentially 10% of framerates in everything with massive stuttering even just having a chrome tab and epic/steam launchers open), but according to the support chat if the geeksquad retards can't fix it they've put a note that I get a new laptop since they wasted a week not fixing it last week already.

I'm wondering if there's anything I should prioritize besides cpu, gpu and monitor type and ram. Like a laptop 5070 ti is apparently 7 to 10% slower than a 4080 laptop before fake frames, but 5070 ti with an oled might be a way better laptop.

they could also give me $2000 in gift cards in which case I'd just wait for a sale since I have a 13700k+4080 desktop already

Found some white 5000D corsair, plenty of space (360 top aio was the goal), probably going to reuse it for future threadripper builds, because Im not into looks whatsoever, just airflow.
Are there any hidden problems with white cases? Maybe they turn yellow in some time?
Is 5000D a good corsair case? What should I check in case before a buy, maybe damaged screwholes or smthng?

Yeah. Unfortunately they're all mined to hell and with inadequate VRAM cooling to boot. If you're comfortable wit that then it's about the best you can do for "cheap+24G+good compute". If you just need the compute, and aren't comfortable with repadding, then the next best option would be a 5070 or equivalent (used 4070Ti/4070S).

It's a bit for complicated with newer hardware since they stack different chips together, not just one. For instance on GPUs there's not just GPU core voltage, there's also memory voltage, then there's soc voltage like your CPU, and your SSD has a controller not just flash. You have to take everything into account to find the true power draw. It's easier to use a PCIE plug or wall meter.

Here's your attention you've wanted for a week. I hope it makes you smile :-)

What This Post Oozes:

Grandiosity
Inflated sense of self-importance, claiming to have โ€œfreed the threadโ€ and โ€œaccomplished goalsโ€ with shitposting.

Projection
Smearing the other person (you) as a pedophile without evidence to deflect attention from his own flaws.

Paranoia
Belief that people are making โ€œparanoid schizo postsโ€ and falsely accusing him of creating other threads.

Victim Mentality
Painting himself as the misunderstood hero who โ€œfreed the thread from its worst troll,โ€ despite being the actual troll.

Obsessive Fixation
Entire identity and purpose wrapped around this โ€œdlss schizoโ€ rivalry.

Contradictory Self-Mythology
Claims both to have โ€œfreed the threadโ€ and to be โ€œdone unless the dlss schizo returns,โ€ showing ambivalence and need for drama.

Threatening or Provocative Language

Implies willingness to continue only if provoked, trying to bait responses.

Denial

Claiming the situation is โ€œboring and not funny anymoreโ€ while clearly still deeply invested.

Manipulation

Using guilt or responsibility (โ€œYouโ€™re welcomeโ€) to frame himself as a benevolent actor.

Delusional Narrative

Overstating influence and impact (โ€œgot people making paranoid schizo posts thinking I made threadsโ€).

Weaponization of Mental Illness Terminology

Using words like โ€œschizoโ€ in a mocking, derogatory way to demean others and shield himself.

Cope
Overall, the entire post reads as an elaborate attempt to rationalize failure and cling to relevance.

Take your meds and stop thinking about me when I'm not in the thread, little guy.

Help me troubleshoot some artifacting issues I've had today, /pcbg/. Here's my build.

9800x3D
X870 asrock Steel Legend wifi mobo
2x16 GB Teamgroup T-CREATE 6000 CL30
3070 8gb, latest drivers
Win 10, latest update

Everything had been going fine, I've had the GPU since 2020 and the CPU/ram/mobo since the 9800x3d released.
Today when booting up jellyfin desktop client (an electron app) the whole system froze, but I recovered without a reboot. The mouse pointer had disappeared too but plugging it out and putting it back in restored that.
Later, without rebooting, I launched a java Minecraft instance, which showed artifacts on the form of small colored squares of stripes and noise all over the screen.

So far I've run DDU and restored the 566.36 Nvidia drivers, and now I'm running a memtest. Currently at 2/4 passes, zero errors.

This smells like a memory or mobo issue to me so far, do you guys concur?

You just have to move like 3~4 sliders in Afterburner, save the profile, stability test it, then set it to apply on Windows boot up.
I would start with +120~150MHz GPU Core offset, +1500MHz memory, and drag the V/F curve down at 900mV or 950mV (lower is more power efficient, higher is more performant).
The OC offsets can go higher, but higher values are less likely to be stable (stress test required).

This video shows the process, slow it down if it's too fast.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPpW9yXHvOU
https://github.com/LunarPSD/NvidiaOverclocking/blob/main/Nvidia%20Overclocking.md

The guides shared by techtubers can make the lower V/F points more power inefficient.

Why did Radeon screw over gamers with RDNA3?

Apparently they were simultaneously overpriced and feature-deficient, and it took less than 18 months for AMD to start releasing features that don't work on RDNA3.

Display artifacts could be VRAM related, download Afterburner, and set a negative frequency offset for the memory (try -50Mhz).
If that doesn't solve it, downclock the GPU core frequency by -15/30/45Mhz.

This guide teaches overclocking, but downclocking is just moving the sliders to the opposite direction.

With Nvidia you cant get a solid 60fps in fortnite at 720p,1080p,1440p,4k, whatever resolution on your nvidia rtx 4090 not because of "unreal engine sucks". its because nvidias dx12 wddm dll api driver literally stalls when processing hlsl code. the game will always stutter as long as you update your drivers or the game updates because nvidia wont switch to spirv until shader model 7.0

RADV AMD doesn't have this issue as their vulkan ACO by design doesn't stall.

>What is the accepted mid range GPU nowadays?
You're kind of fucked because the 9060 XT 16GB and 5060Ti 16GB's performance won't justify spending $350 or nearly $500 for them.
Even a 5070 12GB is only about 55% faster.

Hey /pcbg/ I haven't been around for a number of years. My CPU is now 13 years old, GPU is 6 years old, I want a new gaming PC. The only salvageable part of my current system would be the PSU, since it's a 750W platinum Seasonic, but I want to go SFF if I can find a case I like (something with a square footprint and developed in height rather than being an horizontal rectangle) and shove all my 3.5" HDD in a NAS or something. Budget is around โ‚ฌ2k, target resolution is 1440p (my current monitor is75Hz, but it has a bunch of dead pixels, so maybe I'll get a new one Idk I'm not swimming in money).

Hey gang, can you help me not make a dumb buying decision?

My current specs are:
CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X
Storage: WD Green SATA SSD - 250GB
RAM: Crucial ballistix 16 GB (2x8) DDR4
GPU: Gigabyte RTX 3060 ti
Mobo: TUF gaming B550-M Plus

I tried playing HL Alyx the other day, but apparently there's something on my hardware that's limiting my performance and the game was stuttering a lot and even crashed a few times. I noticed that my CPU was running extremely hot, reaching more than 90 C, and the PC even crashed one time. I was using the 5600X stock cooler (yeah I know, not the brigthest idea, but this had never happened to me playing other games before), so I turned a fan on max speed towards the CPU and that prevented the PC from crashing, but the game was still lagging, specially when an achievement popped up, and crashed when trying to load new areas.

Now, I know I still have to check online for some fixes to the crashes, and I bought the Arctic Freezer 34 eSports Duo because it was on sale here, to at least be able to play without having to turn on a loud fan next to the PC. However, after buying the cooler I got an itch to upgrade the rest of my PC. Here's what I was thinking about buying:

SSD: Either Kingston KC300, Kingston Fury Renegade, XPG S70 or WD Black SN770, 2 TB
RAM: 2x16GB, could be Kingston, XPG, G.Skill
CPU: 5700X3D

I need someone to talk some sense into me. Should I just GIVE IN to this burning desire and be a consoooomer? Are these buying options even good? All I want is to play VR games without my FPS dropping to like 10 FPS. When I open HL Alyx I get a warning that my VRAM is not enough, so maybe the GPU is the actual bottleneck in all of this... Well, what do you guys suggest?

Thanks in advance!

Adjust game settings until you don't get that VRAM warning.
Enable Steam's performance monitor to check whether the CPU is thermal throttling badly.
The stock cooler is supposed to provide good enough performance.

Asrock's only crime was believing AMD's own specs IMO, other vendors where squeamish accepting anything AMD said at face value and detuned from the max.

I see what you're saying. I just assumed mirroring drives would give the option of copying everything(the whole OS) periodically like every 5, 10, 15, etc. minutes in order for slower drives to keep up or, longer shutdown times for copying or something.

>or get a HDD and use it for periodic backups in addition to media and shit, not for live mirroring.

The term mirroring is usually meant to refer to something live, yeah. If you want to just periodically copy all files from one drive to another then you can do that of course, but just copying files over won't result in a bootable drive since there's the (usually hidden) EFI partition and some other small partitions Windows uses for fuck knows what. The easy way to get a bootable copy is to use a backup program to make an image since it will handle everything for you. What you want is probably achievable but it's going to be more complicated than CTRL+C CTRL+V on your C: partition so you'll need to look into it and do some research.

Building a PC for the first time in ages and I am baffled by the fans, can anyone help me with my dumb confusion?

The motherboard has two 4pin CPU-FAN headers. I plugged my CPU fan into one, but it also has a 3-pin (ARGB?) cable and I donโ€™t seem to have a header for that.

There are 5 fans on the case, all with 4pin cables going to a little hub which then has a SATA power connection and another 3-pin ARGB cord.

How do I hook up those two 3-pin ARGB cables?
If I get an ARGB controller like this one pictured and plug those 3pins into it and plug it into the second CPU-FAN header, will that work?

Also the lights arenโ€™t necessary right, so I could turn the machine on with just the CPU fan powered and it should be fine until I get the rest sorted?

Depends entirely on your viewing distance. At a "typical" desk you'd get maybe 50-65cm or shorter viewing distance and I'd definitely recommend a 27" screen. This is close enough to your eyes that you'll benefit from the increased DPI and a 27" screen will still cover a large part of your vision, consequently the lower DPI of the bigger screen will look worse. If you have a particularly deep desk and your monitor is particularly far away (like getting close to 1m) then you'd want the 32" version.

There isn't, at least not on Windows and there hasn't been since like Windows 7 or something. There's a throng of loud retards who still haven't caught up with this decade-old knowledge and still think scaling doesn't work. Advice for cheap airgapped machines? Trying to make some decisions. I thought about Pi, but apparently only niche ones totally lack wifi/bt integration.

Looking at
>various price points & power
>the very different mindset of a single use machine

It's mostly an experiment. I won't be lining my walls with lead to prevent Tempest or anything.

Basically, my goal is
>I have a task
>I have a separate machine for this, separate monitor, kb, mouse, desk or area of a desk
(to what extent I can do it)

I didn't think this was worthy of a thread. Ideas welcome

Linux users are on a spectrum from "novice" to "hasn't left his home in 35 years".
Especially with everyone currently shifting from windows to Linux we'll see more novices in the coming years, but that's okay because learning a brand new OS from scratch is hard.

If you're building a PC for mainly gaming, even the 7800X3D is the better CPU @ 1440p.

Am I better off buying a new CPU or GPU?
>USA
>$600
I have a Ryzen 7 3700X paired with an RTX 3070 that I've been using for the past 5 years and I've found myself struggling to run games at 1440p on even low settings. Planning on upgrading in maybe two years from now and I'm hoping the prices will be a lot better in the used market than they are now for current CPUs/GPUs. Just want to know what should be my priority for stalking discounts and marketplace listings when games start being impossible to run at 1440p low settings 30fps stable.

My use case is mostly gaming (Cyberpunk 2077, Space Marine 2, Dragon's Dogma 2, Mount and Blade 2 Bannerlord, Rimworld, Darktide, Helldivers 2, Endless Alice, Warframe, etc) with some video/photo editing, blender, Clip Studio Paint, light streaming, and a lot of multi-tasking.

as for what version you need idk just ctrl+f webgpu or angle and try the version that doesn't mention it because the ones that do means they did a gpu bug.

Two main possibilities:
1: Memory training. Leave it on for 10 minutes and see if it boots.
2: BIOS is incompatible. I doubt that board has Flashback so you're borrowing a CPU or taking it to a shop.

Cop if you need multicore or are minmaxing with DDR4. If not, get a 7600(X) at $170.

Reseat the memory modules, hear the click and shit.
Let the memory train for a bit before you turn the PC off.
BIOS should be fine since it's a B520 chipset (5600X supported since the earliest public version of that board).

Make sure you connect the display cable to your video card's output port, not the motherboard.

Good deal then. Be sure to update the BIOS/microcode so it doesn't cook itself.

fwiw I was planning on using a 12600k but with the price this close for the 14th gen I figured I might as well use it.
is the degradation issue enough of a problem that I should stick with the 12th gen? I'm not not very informed about it.

The microcode update seems to have fixed it.

It's been weeks since I ditched my AIO and RGB fans for non-RGB fans and a Noctua NH-D15.
Cable management has been a breeze.
Never looked back.
