Once the dust settles we need something new for desktop IPC, DBUS actually gave me PTSD. The documentation on freedesktop is so poorly written and I spent days having my whole desktop crash trying to get an interface working. This is probably behind the notorious KDE crashes, because GNOME works directly with redhat and has access to the esoteric knowledge.
