Gallery app subfolders
I'm still mad because a few years ago, the now Israeli-owned Simple Gallery introduced the perfect way to organize a phone gallery and literally no one noticed, and now it's lost forever.

It was a compromise between a simplified mobile grouping system and a standard PC hierarchical folder structure.
The homescreen of the app only shows:
>Folders that contain images
and
>folders that contain folders with images.
That means you got a maximum of 2 sublevels, aka 2 taps to get to the picture you need.
Meanwhile you can still manage your files like you'd do on a PC.

Nobody understood how handy it was which is probably why every subsequent fork (like the screenshot on the right) "fixed" the feature by making it fully behave like a PC, which means navigating 200 folders before getting to the picture you're looking for. Not something you want to do with a mobile file picker.
Now I'm stuck with an app that was last updated like 2 years ago despite a desperate need for bugfixes and a better UI.

I'm using the last version before it switched to scoped storage, my portable furry folder(26k pics) opens as fast as on PC and about 10 times faster than any "modern" gallery.

Hmm. It looks like "Simple Gallery Pro" is still on 6.28.1, which is also the last version on the Github repo. Of course, the new kike overlords are now only updating the regular version, which costs $15 a fucking WEEK.

I've been using Quickpic for over a decade now, and it works quite similar to what you said OP. If you have a Pictures directory with pics, but also subdirs (with their own pics) then all directories will be shown when opening the app. You can either whitelist/blacklist, hide and password-protect directories as well. I'm not a shill, I just really like the app and I'm glad it just works. Btw, the original app was bought by a chinese company back in the day, but a fork has been maintained ever since, just look up "Quickpic gallery xda".

OP, are you fucking sure? Because I just installed the Fossify one and that option is in there. Unless I'm missing something?
>That means you got a maximum of 2 sublevels, aka 2 taps to get to the picture you need.
But what if a folder is nested 5 folders deep with images along the way? You'd still have to click 5 times, no?

Toggling the option in Simple Gallery Pro 6.28.1 and Fossify Gallery behaves identically...

May be true but if you're still using Android it's jeetware the whole way down anyway so does it really make a difference at this point?

Yep. The "group direct subfolders" now makes the app behave like a desktop explorer (except it filters folders without images).
>But what if a folder is nested 5 folders deep with images along the way? You'd still have to click 5 times, no?
No, that's the point. It had a "2 tap" hard limit, which is exactly the feature I'm missing. That was removed in forks and later updates.

The app this guy uses
>>105734481
behaves in a similar way, no hard limit, just endless digging in nested folders.
