If you pay for a VPN with an anonymous payment method like cash or crypto, and you connect to it with open source software (openvpn, wireguard), the only thing you have to put faith in is that they aren't lying when they say they don't store logs correlating your IP and activity. Even if they glow a little bit they still don't have your personal information, and they certainly don't have as much as your ISP does. This is just basic logic.
