>Song submission guidelines
Upload the file somewhere, preferably in a lossless format, and post the link here. If you want to update your track, make a new post.
Include the song title in the post, and make it clear that your song is a submission for the album.
Optionally you may include cover art for your track, but please confirm that the image in your post is the cover art or it won't be included. Artist names won't be included.
Songs that contain anything against YouTube's policies won't be uploaded on YT, but will still be added to the album.
By default, tracks will be normalised to -14 LUFS (integrated loudness) in the release. You may specify a lower loudness for your track.
Generative AI is banned. This includes AI generated stems, samples, and effects. "AI" includes all neural network-based models and not hard-coded automation/procedural generation.

Never posted in these threads before. I have a C64C and wanted to learn SID-Wizard and just how the SID works in general so I made a kind of remix of this old PS1 menu tune from Gran Turismo 1, I recorded it from SID-Wizard using my original C64C linked to my PC and then further edited in FL Studio, restoring the original drums that I laid on top of it. Nothing special but I think it turned out kinda cool, though I think the original is better.

there's a whole layer of 'magic' that you're oblivious to, especially in the mid 2000s there were some huge hits that had really really unsubtle warmth, any random kid would hear those and realize that there was something special about them and you'd have to be an idiot to think you can produce similar quality songs by yourself, then in the early 2010s there was a lot of shouty digital slop and the music industry declined according to estimates by goldman sachs, now there's an analog revival again and you have to look really hard for any popular song that doesn't have at least very good analog emulation on it which was done deliberately by someone with good ears and good monitors, people like bruno mars are really into analog gear, it's really insufferable how oblivious most anons are to this

It matters a lot.
For the plugins vs hardware gear argument you'll have to take the matter to the author of this book as it is the one that redpilled me.
Big name engineers tend to be boomers accustomed to working with hardware. It's the workflow that they prefer. Your grandmother probably writes notes on a book instead of a computer simply because it is the way she is used to do so.

it's compressors, synths etc too. as a producer you don't have the same requirements to get a dozen mixes out the door in a day, you have an ownership stake even if you're producing for an artist and not being the artist yourself, you can take your sweet time using hardware to get the best sound you can possibly get.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0e9Hk9if7to
this guy isn't a professional and he's talking about mixing with plugins but just look how many people in the comments are doubting him, the commenters don't really know shit about fuck, there are anons who straight up deny that analog warmth/coloration is a thing, they say it's placebo, snake oil etc

Beautiful piece of academic open source DSP software. I've used it to compile pd externals of their classic resonant filters or examples of the DaFX book that were too cumbersome in pd. But if I used a DAW I'd have exported vsts. Can make plugins quite easily as long as you don't ask it Fourier transform or convolution.

It's too perfect not to be bait.
One post like this every once in a while could be believable, but you just HAVE to have some fundamental contradiction in every one of your posts, plus all the contradictory excuses when asked for anything that could prove you're for real (even just naming the gear you're always bragging about; all while literally being named after the EQ'd Chinese earbuds you used to obsess over in the >>>/iemg/ thread).

The original song's beat is rippin', not me. I actually suck at making beats, always have, so it's nice to remix songs that have sick beats because I can actually do it. My C64 beat sounds fine as-is, but I layered some of the original drums on top of it in FL Studio because it just sounded so much better. I wasn't able to reproduce the busyness of that sick breakbeat with the C64 because the SID only has 3 channels so the end result felt slightly empty. I've heard sick breaks on C64 though so it's just my lack of expertise, I'm sure a better SID composer can create tight breaks with the SID, along with other instruments.

if the beatles were given nothing but a focusrite scarlett interface and a couple of microphone, yeah sure they could probably demolish most AMATEURS, but in terms of reaching afrojak level of success, it's an asinine take that they wouldn't need any more investment in production, there are millions of people who have more or less dreamt of being a music star and plenty of people have tried, but very few people have invested seriously in studio equipment and such

It's too perfect not to be bait.
One post like this every once in a while could be believable, but you just HAVE to have some fundamental contradiction in every one of your posts, plus all the contradictory excuses when asked for anything that could prove you're for real (even just naming the gear you're always bragging about; all while literally being named after the EQ'd Chinese earbuds you used to obsess over in the >>>/iemg/ thread).

totally ignores the Dutch aspect of house/electronic music business. afrojack being dutch has more to do with his success than his music. he had 'ok' music at the right time and was a dutch person for the dutch execs to put on bills.
EDM didn't need good music, it just needed fresh music. it was all mixed and mastered well to sound good regardless of the song, arrangement, performance or gear. it just needed a buildup and a drop and the record label would do the rest.

the music business is a business but no one here knows anything about it, so you argue over plugins and cables and irrelevant nonsense.
afrojack is rich and famous because he was and is a charismatic dutch guy who looks good in photos and the dutch people organising half of the EDM industry knew of him and liked him.

Anonymous No.105768656 [Report]

In the chance that you're not Chuzo, EDM was insanely popular in the Netherlands even in those days, and signed Dutch producers were really a dime a dozen, even in respected labels like Spinnin, Ultra, etc. and very few of them made it anywhere close to where Afrojack got, both in EDM and in pop.
Sure he had appeal and everything, but a good chunk of his competition did too, and at the time making it as an EDM producer/DJ wasn't that contingent on your presentation. A lot of popular DJs at the time, who got the same opportunities as Afrojack weren't really attractive or charismatic at all.
For example one of the biggest names of 2009/2010 was Wolfgang Gartner, who looks like pic related, comes from the US (which didn't have a fraction of the scene the Netherlands had), and is on record saying that in his first gigs he was so nervous he couldn't place the needle on the disc from how hard his hands were shaking.

Besides, Afrojack having those advantages doesn't negate what I'm saying because if he came up today with everything exactly as it was back in the day (same looks, presence, music, etc) he wouldn't go anywhere specifically because his music isn't up to today's standard.

I am thinking about buying some music gear. It's not easy because there are several possible avenues. I'm not super strapped for cash but I don't want to buy everything only to have it sit in a pile unused. I want to make each new piece of gear deliberate.

Right now I have an electric guitar, a full size digital piano, midi keyboard + computer and audio interface and a mic.

I have made both idm/dnb/breakcore things as well as ambient stuff and also slowcore and shoegaze music. In Renoise and Ableton.

Part of the reason I want to buy something new is because the chance came up to play music together with some other people. What kind of music we will play is still up in the air, but I have a feeling that I will have to have a kind of leading role for us to succeed.

Ideally I would bring a laptop with a DAW to brainstorm things together, but I don't have a strong laptop like that and I feel like it would be a waste to buy one just for this.

I have a feeling that some groovebox type thing could work nicely for this situation, but all the options are overwhelming. Elektron Digitone/Digitakt look cool and they would also be giggable in the future, but just a bit more money gets a Synthstrom Deluge that looks far more capable overall, especially on the composing side.

Another wildly different idea I have is to get a bass guitar. I think studying bass could make my stuff more groovy, and it's very different to play bass lines on strings than inputting with keys. The downside is that it's a big instrument that wouldn't combine so well with my guitar or piano in a solo live act (I would need to be putting down and picking up the bass constantly or playing it laid out on the table). I feel like it would level up my songwriting though, and in the group play environment I could facilitate playing nicely if I could lay down nice grooves on the fly.

I feel like I am in a bit of a rut and maybe spicing things up with something new could help me get motivated again.
