That happened for a long-ass time I think they only fully got rid of it for all users early last year. Nothing the browser does automatically should ever change the size of the viewport. And yet everyone loves pop-out sidebars now.

"continue the journey" side panel is literal hell
and googling fixes for it obviously results in reddit post saying google removed the option to get rid of it and only fix left is not using chrome
